  • I've had Amazon's Kindle Scribe for 4 months now, and I think it's high time I review it. I'll talk about my main use cases for it, how it fits in to my work-life as a marketer and into my reading life as a Booktuber, and whether you should buy the Kindle Scribe for yourself. I also discuss the standard 2022 Kindle and the Kindle Oasis in comparison.

      Hope you like it! I don't feel like this will work as the only kindle in most people's lives, but combined with an older basic, small and cheap model it is perfect for me.

    I have two kindle, basic and scribe. On scribe I have my work book for study and insight and all my notes about my customers (I'm coach and counsellor). On other I put my love for thriller and adventure book. Kindle scribe for me is the best because make everything I need. I don't use iPad or tablet because in this moment my mindset is "less is more"

    Already had a Paperwhite and got the Scribe solely for the larger screen size (I don't use it for writing). It makes a huge difference: more text on screen, can make the text larger without losing too many words. It greatly enriches reading at home for me. I would sometimes read on the kindle app on my 12" ipad, but didn't like the effect of the LCD backlight on my eyes. With kindle, there's no concern for eye strain from backlight/artificial light.

    • @SamHarrison2099
      @SamHarrison2099  Před měsícem

      Yeah it's definitely the premium reading at home experience. One thing I've found is that I can read so much quicker by increasing the font size too, very useful.

    I got it a couple of weeks ago at a big discount on Amazon and I must say that I'm using it every day, it's really a very useful tool for reading and writing. I can't understand the many criticisms that I read very often, this is nothing more than an ebook reader and a digital notebook, it does exactly what it is designed for, and it does it very well!

    Ive had my Kindle Scribe about a week now and - WOW. I had a Kindle years ago and the improvements of the displays is really fantastic. Being able to go out in the SUN and read on this is the closest thing to reading on paper. No LCD can come close to the natural paper look of it. Taking notes is a dream I use it for engineering notes for laser engraving (stats and so forth), but its almost got me wanting to start a journal with how natural it feels. I only wish the web browser was better and that we could export entire note book in PDF. And yes it is expensive for what it is. Now that battery life - WOW! Go weeks before needing a charge makes it perfect for long trips.

    • @SamHarrison2099
      @SamHarrison2099  Před 2 měsíci

      Yeah I love mine, I've said to a few people here I use it every day - if not for reading then for note-taking at work. I love being able to screenshot a page of notes in the Kindle app to share with a colleague.

    The writing experience on the Kindle Scribe has gotten so much better with software updates. It now includes pencil and fountain pen options, and it does support tilt and different pressure sensitivity. It's still not the most capable e-ink writer on the market, but it's been significantly improved since launch!

    • @SamHarrison2099
      @SamHarrison2099  Před 5 měsíci

      I love it for notes - and it's perfect to take a few notes or draw a quick design wireframe and then email to everyone in the meeting. Unrivalled for that.

    I came to the comment section to ask about the holder and page turning mechanism you use but I can see you already answer it, thanks. One thing I would mention is that I do believe it is pressure sensitive. If you change your pen to pencil, then you can do shading and such. Try it and let me know, I could be wrong or misunderstood what you said.
    I have had my Scribe for almost 4 weeks now and use it almost exclusively for taking notes at work. Many of my colleagues went with the Remarkable 2 and it is a great device. However, I felt better buying the Scribe as it does allow me to read my library as well if I want.

    • @SamHarrison2099
      @SamHarrison2099  Před 5 měsíci

      Yeah I think Kindle + notebook makes this the best device, I also got it for like half the price of a Remarkable in the Black Friday sales! I have to say I haven't really tried the pencil tool stuff, as I have a nice sketchpad and also a Samsung tablet that's great to draw on. Thanks for the suggestion to try it though!

      @@SamHarrison2099 Thanks Sam. Relevant in several ways. I have an S21 Ultra on which I've started using an S pen for notes, which has got me into thinking of a bigger device for writing/drawing, so interested in your thoughts also on the Samsung Tab which you mentioned (I'll check your other videos) but also looking at updating my Active 2 watch. Also use an early Kindle e-reader but with no back light, hence the Scribe ticks a couple of boxes.

      I haven't done a review for my Samsung tablet, I have the Tab S7 which is fine for what I use it for - essentially watching content, reading comics and web novels and the occasional puzzle game. Android tablets in general can't really match the iPad for capability, but all my tech is Samsung and it's a lot more convenient for me to have a Samsung tablet in that ecosystem. I'll probably upgrade next year as my S7 feels a bit slow at the moment.

    I am considering getting this. I need something that I can draw diagram style notes / pseudo code- that is boxes, triangles, and arrows. So nothing that requires any kind of pressure or shading. Hello. Thank you for the review. Just one question- are you able to write on pdfs that you import via the computer? I print to pdf on my computer and transfer those articles to my kindle or tablet via a cable. But from what I've seen online, Scribe only let's you write on pdfs received via email to your Scribe and not those documents transferred via usb/c connection. I'd be interested to know what your experience is. 😃 Thanks again.

    Two questions if I may please: 1/ Can the light on the Scribe be turned off completely? Meaning if you move the brightness slider all the way to the left is it really totally dark in a dark room (some kindles were still using some level of light even when it was supposed to be off) 2/ Do I see it correctly that you own the basic pen only? Are you missing any of the premium pen features?

Same as the higher storage models, flash space costs nothing these days and the difference they charge here... but we know this from Apple too, right? Ridiculous. theres no need to purchase the premium pen except if you want it magnetically attached to the side of your kindle. wish more people would give the kobo line a try. i just can't get wanting to buy an ereader that can't natively read an epub. but judging by what apple has been doing for decades people are willing to accept and support just about anything that restricts how they use their property. just seems like such an obvious admission to our inevitable technocratic dystopia we are hurtling into

    • @SamHarrison2099

      I've had no issues with epubs on my Kindles, I've had a few emailed to me as review copies for this channel and had no issues emailing them over and reading them.
      The problem with having an eReader not from Amazon is all the self-published fantasy I love is Kindle exclusive. Amazon has the industry over a barrel, readers and authors both.

    If they made a Scribe Mini, one that’s the same size as, say, the Kobo Sage, I would buy in a heartbeat! Would literally be perfect in terms of portability, writing, and long reading sessions without your hand getting tired. I’m getting tired of waiting though, so I’m considering biting the bullet and just buying this version. *Sigh*

    • @SamHarrison2099
      @SamHarrison2099  Před 4 měsíci

      I have to say when I am doing a binge reading session I am setting the Scribe up on a tripod and using a remote.
      It's a lot lighter than a hardback book, but I think if you're reading for a few hours you don't wanna be holding any Kindle let alone the largest one they make.
      One the other hand, for writing I wouldn't want a smaller device at all. I use this every day for taking notes, to-do lists and sketching designs and if it was smaller it wouldn't fit my needs at all.
