Nice comment. Then I read Doug's comment to you and y'all are definitely top of the shelf quality. Thsnks, both of you.
@@dougLinker Hello, I am a new subscriber this video I am from Mexico many greetings
@@soy_meraki
welcome new subscriber, you are really gonna enjoy Doug's work, "CAUTION", it's addictive 😁!
It just occurred to me that you are the Bob Ross of carving! You are an inspiration. Thanks for these videos. Such fun and the grandkids love their carvings.
I was just thinking, "Their happy little V cuts!"
totally agree with that statement
Bob Ross, exactly!
Followed every step. Mine looks like a crazy rabid troll. 😂 Much fun. Thanks.
You’re voice is as soothing as your carving thank you
"so you'll quit asking me if this wood will work, or if this wood will work..." Too funny. I love it!
한국에서 왔어요~~ 재밌는 작업을 하시길래 잘 구경하고 갑니다 안전 작업하세요^^
You are an amazing teacher! ❤
Am I the only guy who harvests his own basswood? Way cool video and thanks Mr.Linker.
Another great one. Thank you for all your videos.
I really love this for a giveaway to children.
I took your pocket penguin and put a little spin of my own on him and added a hat. Maybe I was thinking of Chilly Willy. The antique look is great. I have one now with a hat and one plain. Thanks again!
Doug, love your videos. I'm recovering from some medical stuff that had me too fatigued to carve for the last several months. This project is perfect for me to retrain and strengthen hands and wrists. Getting back means a lot to me and my wife. She teared up when she saw I am back in the game. Many thanks!
Hi scott McElroy, I am just starting out with wood carving. Back in August I had C-spine surgery, which had me down for 3 months. Only to break my ankel on DECEMBER 1st. needing to have surgery one week later. So now I am back down and cant walk for 6-12 weeks, due to the type of injury I recieved. now I am trying to stay positive, so I picked up my carving knife that I bought several years ago but did nothing with. So far I have learned how to strop my knife and I have carved Dougs new Owl and the pocket penguin. Due to my neck muscels needing more time to recover I can only carve for a short time, with the exception of my faith in Jesus, wood carving is the only thing keeping me going right now. I really needed to see your post this morning. I am wiping back my tears as I write this. Thank you Scott. My new montra, " Life sucke? Trust Jesus, start wood carving". I hope you Get better soon, I will be prqying for you. Brian
Get a real treat watching your videos. There are so many others carvers out there but you are the only who takes the time to share your thoughts as to why you are doing certain cuts. Have been carving along with you for a while its like being home with a freind.
Fun carve Doug.
Doug, it's like spending time with a dear friend when I watch you. Thanks for sharing your gift with me.
Love your vids! I’m a new carver and am really learning so much from you! Thank you!
Cool little character, as always.
Thank you , Mr Doug
🐺
I have looked with envy at how easy Doug carves his basswood and he doesn't like to talk about the moisture content.
I struggled with mine (which had a moisture content of 10%), so I decided to try an experiment. I put a block on the radiator for 2 weeks and moisture content dropped to zero. It cuts without much effort!
So, getting it as dry as possible will help!
That is opposite to everything i have ever said - better to store beside a wet rag to keep some moisture in
@@dougLinker Interesting. I'll try that too.
This one looks just as much fun as the snowman! Can’t wait until my kit comes in.
That is so cute, you could make that into a key chain.
I enjoy your videos. I’m a beginner woodworker. And now I think I’m going to become a beginner carver. Thank you.
Appreciate your video & instruction. New carver here.
Awesome carving. I love it💓, Very cute
Can you please show how you carve a 6inch gnome or something similar with more tools?
You're the best woodcarver on CZcams 👍
I have a 6 inch gnome video and his wife as well
@@dougLinker I know. I mean that you show how to work with more carving tools
Love this little guy, thanks for the tutorial Doug
Very cute. Great gifts for the grandkids.
HELLO all i am frensh so sorry if i don't speak very well, just i want to say you very very thanks for all work! I love your tutoriel, i have see 90% of your vidéo and i love it! Your are very good! And your vidéo is perfect ! Continue this for à very long time! Thank for all! By
Yes sir you have the best video I've seen enjoy them
this seems fun, this was my first carving and i realised this is harder than it looks - will be back to try again !!
Thanks Doug!
I can’t wait to try this!!!! Thank you Doug
I know it's probably been said before but Doug is the Bob Ross of carving!
Thank you for being you , your easy on the ears. I started carving when my brother ended up in a coma, ultimately he passed away, but it helped to ease the pain of my loss, and he would be proud to see the accomplishment I've made thanks to your tutorials .
I'm always thankful to you.
I love all your tutorials too, you are both great 😊
It's a Penguin Pawn, part of the Great White North Chess Set. Really nice carving Doug.
Hi Doug. Thanks to you and your wood carving videos, I have tried my first ever Whittling! I did the Pocket Penguin! I thoroughly enjoyed it and plan on trying other carvings in your videos. 😊
It's great to see how you really have fun and enjoy carving all your little fella's, you almost give them voices. "Like I said" before, thank you so much for all your teachings. 🐧🐧🐧
Doug I am a big fan and have received many comments on my carvings all because of you. I like this little guy but I adore the one with the coat. Hope you will do a tutorial on him even if it's a fast one.
Pretty perfect pocket penguin.
Очень душевные игрушки!
This is such a cute little penguin 😊
You were talking about people asking about wood and knives. Some bass wood us softer and some knives are sharper. In one of your older videos you said you were a carpenter, which is a hands on hard work occupation. Your hands are young and strong enough to make carving stone look easy. The way you teach makes things easy to follow and you choose easy things to carve. Keep up the good work.
I figure the best wood for carving is the wood I have to carve. Some are easier, for sure, but the advice to just give it a try and see what happens is great!
Great tutorial Doug! I like "pocket penguin". Well done geezer!! ✌️🇬🇧
Love it, Doug 😊😂
Thank you!! 😃🥰. I love it!
Love it, just Love it 😍, great vid buddy.
Thanks 🙏🏻👍👍💙
So sweet! 👍👍👍
Just done another one of theses as a Christmas present
That's a keeper project. Good an Ya.
Thanks Doug your calm and stress free attitude has been why I have now taken up carving I am pretty useless at the moment but getting there it really is therapeutic and calming I love it thanks again you’re priceless
Awesome, very informative.👍 🇨🇦
Enjoy your videos. What I especially like is how you leave it so the viewer can take what you provided and still make it their own. For the "Pocket Penguin", I also made a snowboard and posed him both with the board, and going down the slopes. You truly make it fun! Thanks
exellent tutorial thanks for sharing nice simple and relaxing carving
Grea little project Doug, thanks once again.
Another of your "must try that" videos Doug. Nice to see you so relaxed and enjoying the process. Just brilliant. Thanks.
Say "like I said " as much as you want ! Great project and advice on the fun and meditative part of our hobby
Love it, Doug. Thanks.
THANKS
LOVED
GOD Bless
I’ll be coming back to watch this, not watching it now, just wanted to let ya know on an easier to see video, you’re a great teacher, especially as a learner. Though I’ve been learning and doing other little projects and stuff I oddly like watching your videos on anything, while I whittle something absolutely un connected. Explaining the cut you’re making has slowly made me memorize certain habits that I prefer. The way you display and show your work/working is amazing when it comes to getting “click” moment. Love your videos, and dad humor.
I second this Doug. I've tried penguins before and never could make it look good. You just showed me every where I was messing up. My ole lady is gonna love the penguins 😂😂😂
Hi Doug, I just finished carving my 6th pocket penguin. I didn't think he was going to make it, so I had to revive him with a little 320 sand paper. I know, its tragic but He is doing much better now. I will be naming him "Smooth Mike" : ) I will be painting him later today. I also started roughing out the simple, fast and easy Owl this morning. Thank you so much for putting on all these Tutorials, woodcarving and your videos have changed my life for the better. Thank you.
(Doug's lesson of the day) " If you mess up, make a smaller Penguin" . it works, it really does work.
A sharp blade on carving tool is most important. I made a bear, following your instructions, out of very dry piece of Juniper wood. The V cuts and detail work was difficult. Learned a lot on my first attempt. Going to try this penguin next. Thanks for your videos.
Watching your videos feels like hanging out with the uncle I never had
That was excellent!
I won’t get to see my twin grandson’s for Christmas this year. They are 3 and honestly we haven’t seen them any Christmas yet. Anyhow, they have a fascination with Penguins so I’m going to make a couple of these, painted just ever so different, as they are and send them for a Christmas present from Gramma. Thanks my friend.✌🏻🤍
I love cute little penguins🐧. Great tutorial 👌 👍. Live your channel. Peace and good fortune and good health to you and your family. 😃
Your video is very relaxing 👍🏻
My daughter loves those. Now i need to do them 😊
Beautiful !!!
:) :) :)
Nice one Doug !!
Thanks for you easy going approach to showing us the joys of wood carving and how accessible it can be to anyone. You introduced the “V” tool in this carving, which next to the knife is one of the most useful tools when working on small carvings. It would be greatly appreciated if you could talk about the “V” tool in more detail in an upcoming video. I would be very interested to hearing your perspective as to what sizes and angle degrees you reach for most often when doing your small carvings. Your videos are greatly appreciated and you have taught me much with it comes to the joys of wood carving. It is a very relaxing hobby that does not take much space or investment in tools to enjoy! Your efforts in promoting the joy of carving is greatly appreciated!
Thanks -if you go back i have videos on tool selection
Great, thank you. 😊
Looks Great Doug will try it out Jim's wood shop.
Goog project. Thanks
Love it. You make it look so easy. Watching your CZcams videos is like therapy for me. Absolute delight.
Really characterful penguin, thanks for the tutorial Doug.
Great to see you back doing some tutorials!
I would like to thank you for all your tutorials with which I make things for my grandsons.
May you be blessed by Almighty God Almighty God with a world of everlasting happiness. Amen ❤️ 🙏 😊
I was just thinking about a penguin carve last week!
great Doug,thanks
Nearly a quarter million subscribers! Man, have you earned this success.

So cute! Would love to see you carve a squirrel!
All that reaching g Doug , and you didn't knock your coffee over !!!! Impressive!!!!!
That’s the skill part lol
Yay!!! Missed your tutorials xx
Great video as always Doug
Thanks again Doug! Cute character and a great video!
On my third one. So much fun and satisfaction and quick to pick up.
Super, 1 inch x 1 inch carving. A lot of demonstrations seem to use 1 1/2 inch x 1 1/2inch Bass wood. Here in the Uk we can mostly only get 1x1 + 2x2 packs of Bass wood. In the past I have tried to get some Bass from the USA via Amazon. Postage to the UK tends to be more costly than the wood itself. Keep up the good work Doug. I'm 74 and took up whittling last year. Love the site.
Ron in the uk look for lime wood thats equivalent to basswood in North America. I don't know where you are but there is a wood yard in Tamworth that has lime put aside for carvers 👍😊
@@jackierudd2010 Do you know the name? 20+ wood suppliers in Tamwoth.
Hey Doug I know that everyone will love this, thanks! 🤩🤩🤩👏👏👏✅✅✅💯💯💯
Awesome fun. Thanks Doug!
Oh so relaxing...enjoyable...simple when you do it...great vid...Big Thank You
Hey Doug, Just wanted to Giday , work and love your carving, I ve learne a lot from you and Arlene, and Kevin. Not many carvers here. Carving's not appreciated as a craft and artistry. We live in Longford Tasmania, The Island state off the southern tip of australia. This week the temperature is -3c with wind chill factor of -7c*. Snow down to 200meters. Good carving weather. May you and your's stay well buddy
I always thought watching Gene Messer carve was relaxing but after finding your videos, that has changed. I like your style and presentation. I am 80 years young and just finally getting back to carving. I think I've forgotten everything I once knew, which wasn't all that much, but after watching your vids, I'm ready to take up the knife once again. Thank you so very much for all your time and efforts. They are not wasted.
👍 thanks again Doug !
Thanks for the fun tutorial. You’re so right. A fun, easy and satisfying little guy. I’ll try a few and may even make one purple😉
Was looking for something for next Christmas the ladies in the family should really like this, thanks Doug. Been following you for 4 years or more apologies for not commenting more often!
Thanks Doug, good one. Looking forward to trying this. My Owls & Pelicans need some company....
Carve On!
