The most eye-catching piece of new metal teased at the Milan show was the Concept 921 S, a retro homage to the brand’s famous 750 S. The bike is built around an all-new tubular steel trellis frame, aluminium subframe, and beautiful billet swingarm.
The 2024 MV Agusta 921 S Concept Powered by a new 921 cc inline four-cylinder engine, which MV is claiming produces a healthy 115 horsepower at 10,000 rpm, with a solid 87.4 pound-feet of peak torque at a moderate 7,000 rpm. This 921 engine is intended to have great flexibility in combination with power adequate to enjoy on the road.
With new camshaft profiles, designed to improve throttle response, and a countershaft to reduce vibration in the motor are also fitted. It even reaches Euro5 standards, which makes us think this concept could become a reality in the not so distant future.
The circular, 4.5-inch touchscreen display is attached to the 16-litre tank, allowing the clip-on bars - said to be inspired by the world of cycling - to remain visible.
Electronic features include cruise-control, GPS, launch control, traction control and four rider modes - although no specifics have been released.
The chassis is completely new, an open-cradle frame with a steel-tube-trellis design incorporating integrated billet-aluminum billet rear plates and a seat-supporting subframe. The frame also uses the red elements of the traditional Agusta paint scheme. With the wheelbase spans 57.7 inches.
Front and rear suspension is top-of-the-line Öhlins. At the front is a 43mm male-slider NIX-cartridge design with fully adjustable compression and rebound damping. The rear gets a fully adjustable TTX36 shock. Tire sizes are 120/70-17 front and 180/55-17 rear.
Stopping power consist of twin Brembo 320mm front discs with Stylema four-piston calipers up front and a single Brembo 220mm disc brake with a two-piston caliper in the back. Continental MK100 cornering ABS monitors power, including rear-wheel-lift (stoppie) mitigation function.
An aluminium front brake cover starts the functional yet stylish design features as they carry air to the calipers for cooling.
The 921 S has a very early 1970s aesthetic but runs MV’s tubular steel trellis design and beefed-up swingarm, a combination of carbon fiber cover, spokes and forged allot rims, exhausts that exit under the motor and a super-cool front brake duct that allows for extra cooling to the calipers.
We will not be seeing this MV Agusta 921 S Concept next year as a 2023 model, but with KTM’s purchase of 25 percent of MV Agusta recently, we’d expect to be more likely as a 2024 model.
