- Sepoy Khudadad Khan was born on October 20, 1888, in Chakwal, now part of Pakistan. He joined the 129th Duke of Connaught's Own Baluchis, a regiment of the British Indian Army, during World War I. Khudadad Khan served as a machine gunner.
His moment of glory came during the First Battle of Ypres on October 31, 1914. Despite being severely wounded, he bravely operated his machine gun, providing crucial cover for his fellow soldiers under intense enemy fire. His actions saved many lives.
In recognition of his extraordinary courage, Sepoy Khudadad Khan became the first South Asian and Muslim soldier to receive the Victoria Cross, the highest military decoration in the British Empire. King George V presented him with the medal on June 8, 1915, at Buckingham Palace.
After the war, Khudadad Khan returned to his village in Chakwal and lived a quiet life. He passed away on March 8, 1971, at the age of 82. His legacy stands as a testament to the contributions and sacrifices made by soldiers from the Indian subcontinent during World War I.
Sepoy Khudadad Khan's story is a symbol of the bravery displayed by soldiers from the British Indian Army and the recognition they received, transcending cultural and religious boundaries.

Kudos to Dr Nasir Baig. Sir, In my school days in early fiftees in Kharian- a tehsil of Gujrat district, I learnt of an ex-soldier being accorded special honour amongst all the elites present in a gathering for the reason that he wore a Victoria Cross. I wonder if someone in his family or in his hometown who knew of him could give his name and whereabouts etc. and add to our knowledge of this great soldier also. Dr Saeed Bhatti.

Please do some research before posting a video. He was subedar Khuda Dad Khan and not a sepoy. His statue was displayed in the Rawalpindi army museum close to GHQ, and I saw it several times during my childhood in the 1960s and 1970s.

Services of such peoples consolidated and lengthened British rule in united India and weakened Ottoman Empire. The helped British Army to occupy Palestine and Baitul Maqqadas and later laid the foundation of Israel till then slaughtering of innocent muslims continue incessantly.
