  • The goal for each student participant is competitive employment. The program provides real-life work experience combined with training in employability and independent living skills to help youths with significant disabilities make successful transitions from school to productive adult life. The Project SEARCH model involves an extensive period of training and career exploration, innovative adaptations, long-term job coaching, and continuous feedback from teachers, job coaches, and employers. As a result, at the completion of the training program, students with significant intellectual disabilities are employed in nontraditional, complex and rewarding jobs. The presence of a Project SEARCH High School Transition Program can bring about long-term changes in business culture that have far-reaching positive effects on attitudes about hiring people with disabilities and the range of jobs in which they can be successful.

We now call this a Community Integration Program in California. How very inspiring your project is for so many people. Many times these adults can be more efficient at their jobs than those of us who do not have a label of "having a disability." I wouldn't trade any of my associates for anyone else. Being a part of a retail business in a small northern California town has increased self-confidence and a feeling of belonging, as well as the added benefit of many job skills
    for our wonderful associates.

I agree wit that. I am disabled. I have special needs as well. I would benefit by getting proper training before going to work anywhere in the community.

Speaking as an ED/Trauma nurse...these jobs are essential for the smooth functioning of any hospital, large or small...glad to see programs like this giving people with disabilities an opportunity and in turn we benefit as well...wish there were more programs like this.

This made me smile! Everyone desires to be needed and wanted wherever they work, and this program seems quite remarkable. Congratulations to all the graduates. 😇💜

They make think project search sound great but u got to realize not every program will help disabled people and when I got out of school I had to advocate for myself and push myself hard so hard it build my motivation and teacher only taught me to hold a job with my own skills I had to discover how to go up the ladder by myself

Florida doesn't do shit about this, every state services for individuals with disabilities who are willing to keep a job is garbage and a complete waste of time. It's sad and a shame to see this way

@Amber R. Thurman I have bad experience by a highlands county deputy who illegally baker act me without the school notifying my parents and not being able to go home first. Being baker act sucks, they don't help me, they treated me as a prisoner and It feels like hell. They don't see me as a human being they see me as a number. The staff at peace river center is a do nothing and that place is hell. Vocational rehabilitation services for people with disabilities sucks. I wasted my time going appointments for 3 month stright and never revived any job training or getting a actual job. I end up canceling the service and found a job in college which is work study for students.
