  • In this video, I show how to tune vocals using Waves Tune in Cubase Pro. The content in this video is one of my older videos from a course I previously had on my website. I felt it was something that could help lots more people on CZcams. Newer versions of Waves Tune may function a lot differently to how I show in this video.

    Just bought this plugin along with a couple of others bundled yesterday at Waves. Tried it last night on my fretless bass, and yes it works! (what sold me was someone in a review mentioning it works on monophonic instruments, but have not tried it on any others yet). I'm thinking there are plenty of novice sax players that would like to have a go at pitchy tracks, not to mention the ability to refine the tuning on pitched kick drums (let's say you've committed them to audio, or 'flattened' or 'frozen' them in Ableton).
    Good for you re-deploying this older walk-through of yours, so far, the best video I've seen for thoroughness.

    Very helpful was your using Select All so the settings could be changed and applied on-the-fly to the corrections. I shall try that on some of my Wave Tune jobs and see if they come out a bit more natural. Your example was in D major, BTW.

    • @kdwmixingmastering
      @kdwmixingmastering  Před 3 lety +1

      I think I was using Select All to make the changes across the entire vocal track and not just individual notes. It really depends on the song and the performance to how I tune vocals. A lot of people have mentioned that the key is D Major I probably should have done better on working that out before hand. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment.

    How do you just spot check specific notes? I want to keep most of the vocals untouched, but just zero in on a few notes.
    Is there a way to do this within the plugin?
    Outside, I guess I could automating the plugin out for the spots other than the ones I want to tweak, but, ehhhh....

    • @kdwmixingmastering
      @kdwmixingmastering  Před 3 lety

      I can't remember exactly how this plugin worked and I don't have a copy anymore. I was under the impression that you could not have it analyze parts of the vocal or you could delete the notes in the plugin making it ignore the parts and just play the original. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Hopefully someone else can help more in the comments.

  • @BmodeMusic

    Kevin, how do you shift vocals forward and backwards to fix timing issues?

    • @kdwmixingmastering
      @kdwmixingmastering  Před 4 měsíci

      Sorry I havent used this plugin for a while so I am not sure exactly how to do that. I would guess that you select all the little parts of entire note and just drag it across. If this is not possible then I would go back out of the plugin and split up the sections in your audio track note by note if needed and just move the notes manually. That is how I do timing issue corrections most of the time. I just find the problem areas in the track audio and split it up and start moving it around in very small movements by zooming in extremely close. I think I have a video on the channel somwhere that explains how I do tming issue correction.

      the plugin has been around in this form for many years and obviously needs upgrading. waves presumably are not doing that since so many of the DAWs have proprietary (cubase and logic for example) or in the case of studio one cooperation with celemony (izotope also). going back 2-3 years many plugins didn't resize. this phenomenon has really been a post 2018 affair........while waves should do a simple upgrade on their product i'm guessing they don't see the relevance knowing that their vocal tuning flagship is pretty much outgunned by flex pitch, vari audio and melodyne..,,,,pity in some ways since it's not a bad plugin to have.....

      I understand.
      Sadly that doesn’t increase the general size of the plug-in (the GUI) that just makes the notes with in the plug-in larger.
      Although that’s useful too... wouldn’t it be great if it was like Fab Filter and actually went full screen ?!?!?!?
      In either case I’m happy with the plug-in.
      I’m sure as new plug-ins come out tomorrow more of them will have sizing options as it’s becoming standard.

    Whats' the difference between WavesTune and WavesTune Lite ?

    • @kdwmixingmastering
      @kdwmixingmastering  Před 2 lety

      It is missing a lot of the adjustment and editing features like tolerance, vibrato and more. If you just want to do a simple process than LT is fine but if you total control of the tuning then it might not work as well.
