    More about this video:
    If you are looking for how to design a retro vintage postcard without photoshop, then this is the exact video for you. In this video, Drew shows you how to design a retro vintage postcard using Kittl, which works right in your web browser, and is super easy to learn. When you are learning how to design a retro postcard, keep in mind that your background, your typography, the illustrations, and textures are vital! You want to have a themed background (in this video we went with a beach-y bay them), and that way the person that receives your card knows where it's coming from! Then you can factor in some retro type or fonts, some retro illustrations, and then some grain or grunge texture to really tie it all together!
    You might have searched something like "how to make a retro postcard in illustrator" on CZcams, and found some videos, but then realized that Illustrator is a lot harder to use (and to remember) than many other programs. And similarly to an illustrator tutorial, this video will show you how to make graphic design projects using Kittl! So if you've been struggling to remember how to do things in programs like Illustrator and Photoshop, then you have come to the right place!
    Thank you so much for using our platform, and for watching this video. Don't forget to subscribe and follow along with the tutorial on the channel.

    Great tutorial. I like the small tips like using clouds for water and distorting line glyphs. 😎

    I put products in local giftshops in my area and they always request postcards. Good for souvenirs (mailed or not) but mostly, teachers in schools often have projects for students to mail postcards around the world. They love city and state postcards. Thank you for this tutorial!

    Great tutorial Drew!! I've watched a few more of your super informative and powerful videos and will have to go back later to comment. Like Kymberly, I've used Photoshop for years and would spend more time looking up how to do things than I did on the designs. Your dev team are SUPER GENIUSES for making it so easy to do what we want to do with a few clicks. I became a paid subscriber today and LOVE Kittl!
    Also, WOW, the end result was a phenomenal retro design!

    Great video, thank you. I've recently signed up for the pro version to trial for a month or so and I love how easy text manipulation is, compared to Affinity Designer that I currently use for my book covers. My biggest bugbear is that there's no option to design in CMYK which is essential for printing. Converting after creating the design is time-consuming and pretty hit and miss in terms of results. What would be your best guess on when this might be available?

    • @Kittldesign
      @Kittldesign  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey there Lorri! We don't have a release date for this feature, but it is definitely on the way. Sorry for all of the frustration!

    I design postcards for my customers and I need my files to be in a CMYK format. I was going to download the file and change it to CMYK and do a little color correcting if needed. Also, If I save in Kittl as a PNG, will I have all the layers in tact if I open the file in Photoshop or illustrator? P.S. Your videos are great. I’ve learned so much. I will be designing tshirts next using Kittl.

    • @Kittldesign
      @Kittldesign  Před rokem +1

      Hey there! Being able to switch to CMYK format will be coming in the future. But you can already download an SVG file to re-orchestrate the color profile in another program, or as a PDF and use an online tool to change the color setting. A PNG is a static rasterized image though, so there will be no "layers" if you open a PNG in Photoshop.
      And thank you for the compliment!

    So at 5:31 is that how artist use glyphs to create the long tail swooping design on fonts? If you look up designs on Baseball Jerseys and athletic apparel one of the most popular lettering techniques is the last letter will have a swooping curve that underlines the entire word. I've been trying to figure out how to do that in Kittl. The word New Jersey for example the "y" will have a tail that swoops under the rest of the word or the word Thanks Giving will have the lower case "g" that does the same.
    I was going to use that technique during the Challenge but couldn't figure out if it was an automatic feature in Kittl or if I had to manipulate the font or such like in this example at 5:31.

    • @Kittldesign
      @Kittldesign  Před 2 lety

      Hey there! Some of our fonts (like the Milkstore Script Font) already have those glyphs available via the glyph panel. You can open and scroll down to the bottom and find the swashes and "tails" so to speak, that will attach to the end of any letter. Or you can search different letters to see what alternates come up. Is there a way to fill the letters with the iconic images like the other tourist vintage postcards that were shown in the beginning of the tutorial?

    • @Kittldesign

      Hey there! You can group layers by hitting CMD G (or CTRL G), or, you can simply right click and select group from the menu.
