This was an excellent run and was everything it needed to be. It redeemed Halo CE at the GDQ events, cutting the previous time by two hours.
The couch consisted of Reed Tiburon, Lephoque (aka Yolo Swaggins), and Mister Monopoli.
Games Done Quick is a bi-annual charity gaming marathon. Volunteers play games at incredible speed ("Speedrunning") for entertianment. The event is streamed live online, non-stop, and all donations go directly to the charity. This is the summer event, with a winter event every January ("Awesome Games Done Quick"). Fun Fact: 343 Guilty Spark (the level) in this game is the only level in the entire Halo franchise to show Needler ammo.

The MCC has an achievement for beating Halo CE in under 3 hours on legendary named after goatrope. The achievement is called "Goat Roped."

Nwrig004 Not sure, I was wondering the same thing too. I'm hoping that it just adds the lowest times you got on each level together rather than actually having to sit down and do it all in one sitting. I did the math and if you do the par time on each level, you will have a cumulative time that is lower than 3 hours, so I'm hoping that the time added together is the case.

I forgot how absolutely terrifying taking damage was in this game. Having the whole screen flash like that is what most games these days save for critical damage
I never get tired of watching this run. It's such a joy to watch. Many thanks to Goatrope for performing this run and being a such a true ambassador for the Halo community. This run revived my passion for the game as it did for many others. To echo other comments made, Goatrope's commentary is extraordinarily entertaining and informative, and the couch did a great job as well. Also, thanks to Mr. Monopoli for his major contribution to Halo's revival with his success in running Halo2.

This is a really cool speedrun. A class entertainment. Explaining every thing and all. Damn Halo 3 4 and Reach for No PC ports. Halo: CE is among the greatest games ever.

I love how the speed running achievements in the master chief collection are all named after these well known halo speed runners.
Fantastic run; epic commentary as well, kept me very engaged and is helping me on making a run through the Master Chief edition!

I know this is very late, but they all work.
The Banshee o the rocky bridge/arch is possible to pilot without exploits. When the player reaches the 'bridge', an elite can be seen running towards the vehicle. Sniping them leaves the Banshee vacant and thus - available to use.

You are right. I've been doing this on nearly all my plathroughs.
I do this so much on my playthroughs I've sometimes had a lapse in judgment and accidentally referred to it as the intended way to complete the mission. Its just second nature to me.
I always do it or I reload. No way in hell I'd climb the temple from the bottom like I'm supposed to after the level is so damn long already!
Still come back to this video: really great lineup of people, great sleuth of information ( outdated of course ), one of my favourite games. Just a really good vibe.

Personally, I actually like The Library. The problem is that it drags on far longer than it should. 2 floors is enough, maybe 3. 4 floors takes fun and engaging combat and scrapes it into the floor like a good song and the radio
I dont ALWAYS play the library but when I do it's because I'm in the mood for a challenge, that mission keeps you on your toes and WILL make you a better Halo player no doubt.. The first time that they released HALO CE anniversary edition I was playing through the campaign on legendary and I finally got to the library and played through it without dying ONCE on legendary, I will have to say that was my finest HALO CE moment to date, by the time I was done playing I was SHOCKED that I didn't die a hundred times over! I've never done that before or since! Moral of the story is that the Library is a challenge on purpose and is meant to make you feel uncomfortable in order to make you into a more solid HALO CE player, so I respect it, plus it scares the crap out of me if I play it alone in the dark on a high volume LOLCheddarBacon

Keyes actually can die in "Truth and Reconcilliation" ? Shit.. 15 Years and I still learn things about the basic Halo CE

I remember there used to be a programming glitch during development that Bungie had to rectify. Keyes originally had the "taunt enemy corpse" AI behavioral trait, but because he had a Needler, he'd fire into the corpse, cause a supercombine, and kill himself, failing the mission. They had to remove the trait from him just to get it to work.

you can jump off the elevator a certain distance down, pinball of the wall opposite the door at the bottom and literally bounce right in, saves around 3 seconds

Fully agree. Halo 2, while badass, with its amazing music (of which I think is the best in the series) and grandiose scale, has too many flaws. It's unfortunate, because to me, 2 should be the best Halo; it had the most potential, and it is one of the most loved Halos, behind 3, of course. Halo 3 is over-hyped; practically everyone worships it because it was either their first Halo game, or after 2 they saw anything as god-like (though, I will admit I love the multiplayer, I can give it that). Halo 3 worshippers are worse than Heimskr in Skyrim IMHO. ODST was essentially BFBC2: Vietnam, except for Halo 3; it's awesome and fun, but it's just a really fucking awesome expansion on the predecessor. Reach is okay, but doesn't live up to the Trilogy. CE was the first rollercoaster, and a hell of a rollercoaster at that. You hit the ground running, and you literally ran into the last cutscene. The music was great, the gameplay was revolutionary for its time (advanced and intelligent AI, and the use of separate sticks for movement and aiming), and it had an epic and awesome story (it also revolutionized video game storytelling, along with Half-Life).
TL;DR, CE is far better than the rest for various reasons, and I totally agree with you
Ha, great response, I do agree with you, Halo 2 had some great music, I'd put it on par with Halo CE no doubt, there were also some parts of Halo 2 that I really enjoyed but they were too few and far between for my taste, I did like the multiplayer I do agree but the story mode was what made me fall in love with Halo CE, i did enjoy parts of Halo three but once again it was just an OK story mode with a good multiplayer attached lol, ODST in my opinion was the only other good story in HALO, even the controls felt more solid then 2 or 3, REACH had a few good moments and once again a decent multiplayer that kept me entertained but me being an old school HALO CE nerd I had read the book 'The Fall Of Reach' written by Eric Nylund and wow.....badass book, I highly recommend it to any Halo fan and the story mode for Reach didn't even compare to that book, never understood that at all. I also agree Half life is also a great game but back to halo I just feel like the story modes have let me down so much by now that I dont even play it anymore, I played Halo 4 and it was the same thing, I enjoyed a few parts of the story and thought most of the campaign didnt hit the mark, and ended up playing the multiplayer only again.....I just don't trust Halo games anymore, the creators have consistently forgot the core of what made HALO great in the first place, simplicity, SOLID gameplay physics and a true sense of fighting to survive! I did enjoy Reach and you're completely right the multiplayer for Reach was pretty awesome

I was just watching that botched "speedrun" that one guy did, took like four hours on normal... but in watching that nonsense I was introduced to the name goatrope and I'm glad I was. Even though I was late to playing it, the first Halo was what got me back into gaming so I like to see people showing it love.

Why does he weapon swap, melee, scope randomly? Is it just like, killing twitchy fingers? Or is there something involved with that?
No purpose, just habit.
He does explain the speedy reload (double tapping the reload button and swapping weapons to reload while using your other weapon), and the random scopes, melees are to keep yourself warmed up, just like Starcraft pro players.
If you double tap the reload button and switch weapons, the weapon that you switched out of reloads it self. Known as "backpack reloading".
Scoping and melee ing is for style points. ;)

Great player and commentator. But once again, awkward audience, which kinda kills the mood of the whole "helping others" thing. Like when the donors are trying to get them all pumped up, it's kinda awkward when barely anyone participates or everyone just remains silent. Oh well, still a fun playthrough.

Nearly every single one of these ADGQ/SDGQ videos I watched had an awkward audience in some way or another. It does get a bit cringe sometimes tbh.
I just love how speed runners on the internet have managed to gather more knowledge about the game than the actual developers of said game. It's brilliant.

The reason why Infection do so much damage when you're shieldless is because that's what they're supposed to do, latch on to you and infect you. It's your Shield that normally prevents that, but without it, they've free reign to do what they're supposed to. Not sure if the runner knew that or not, but judging by the way he was talking it sounded like he didn't.

For the 3 grenade jumps around 37:00, i actually gave up on doing the last 2. Since you have more leeway for the goatrope achievement, and skipping the ground floor is the most time consuming and difficult segment anyway, you can just proceed as normal up to the 3rd floor after that first jump with no opposition. Easier than doing all 3 jumps in my opinion

Yes.
Vetro Plays it also works in the Halo MCC. They didn't change anything, even in CEA, just better graphics, terminals, and skulls. All actions have stayed the same, or else they would have to literally go back and change stuff from 10 years ago. Even the Geometry is the same as 10 years ago, don't let the better graphics fool you :P
