What's your favourite thing about Brisbane?

    • @lorenzomagazzeni5425
      @lorenzomagazzeni5425 Před 2 lety +3

Brisbane is probably the cleanest city, the climate is mild and lovely - some people complain it is hot and humid, LOL, as a former resident of New Orleans and Miami these people have no idea what hot and humid means. In New Orleans and Miami you have to keep the aircon on 24 hours a day. Plus it is a beautiful city, the city cats, I mean the boats going back and forth the Brisbane River... great authentic Italian pizzas (not the ones with pinapple) good Chinese restaurants, great farmers markets.
Never seen anybody swimming in the Brisbane river though...

@@lorenzomagazzeni5425 You've started a big argument - do pineapples belong on a pizza!? And yes, I 100% agree with you the city is beautiful, the city cat ferries are GREAT and the hot, humid weather is pretty terrific - if you like that sort of thing... And I doubt you will ever see anyone swimming in the Brisbane River... not saying there are sharks in there, but there could be sharks in there... Probably not though. But maybe. Don't swim in the river.

Visited Brissy recently during Christmas. First time EVER. I discovered The Felons, this fantastic dining bar area that overlooks the Story Bridge. I just went WOW. Had a beautiful dinner while tirelessly gazing at the city skyline and the bridge - one of the BEST highlights of my vacation! (prolly the closest thing to Manhattan Bridge in NYC 🤩!)
Second best would be riding the e-scooter around the city - which is also a fun way to explore and discover. As a Sydney sider, i am 200% considering to move and stay in Brisbane permanently. With. No. Regrets.

      Laidback and friendly people
      Less traffic
      Mild winters
Great beaches, ie white sand :-)

  • @Rozzie...Brisbane...Australia

I came to Brisbane in 1988 because I got a bigger block of land [1.5 acre 20 minutes from Brissy] to build a new house, and, the weather in autum/winter is the best place on the planet. Not to mention how close [1/2 to 1hr drive], river's, dam's and the ocean are for all water recreation and sports. I now have a marine licence for boats & jetski and a motorbike licence, I would never of got these where I use to live...Best decision to move and this is my home state forever...my 4 kids are very happy I choose to move here before they where born as we are an outdoor's type of family and they all learnt to swim as babies...🌻🦋💛

Fully agree Mel, Brisbane is our first City when we moved to Australia and it took one ride on the City Cat to make me fall in love with this City so much so that i don't think i will ever move.
Nature, Climate, sufficient Performing Arts, the surounding beaches are really just amazing and now with all the influx of new restaurants and amazing archtectural developments and green buildings, it's going to be hard to find a reason to want to leave.

OH NO!!!!!!my hubby and I are moving to Brisbane from Sydney this end of the month, and honestly the amount of people we told about our move who said negative things about Brisbane is appalling. Like why can’t other people just wish us well. It’s so sad of how sometimes people can be so insensitive and rude. I do not know if we are right with our decision, but this is what we find best for us right now. Sydney has become so expensive for us. I just hope Brisbane is not as bad as what all the other people here in Sydney had been telling us. They say Brisbane has the highest crime rate now and full of racists and no sense of culture and boring. Like who the heck wants to hear that when we are about to start our family life in Brisbane! Anyway, reading all the comments here cements our decision to move to Brissy. 🙏🏻

Sydney’s only good if you can afford to live near the harbour or near the beaches. I’ve lived in Brisbane and Gold Coast most of my life, except for five years in Melbourne and three in Japan. I spend most of my time in Gold Coast nowadays. The whole South East Queensland/Northern NSW area has a lot to offer. Crime and racism exist everywhere. People just pretend they don’t. The summer humidity is the main thing people find hard if you’re not used to it, but it’s only three months or so. I hope you find what you are looking for.

However, can't compare the facilities at Changi airport or even Kuala Lumpur with Brisbane airport, but i's all right, it's not an international hub like Singapore where people may have to wait 10/12 hours for another flight, hence lots of restaurants, one cinema operating 24/7, pubs et cetera. I sure wouldn't like to be stuck at Brisbane airport for more than 4 hours.

This is a very old comment but want to mention that the Queen Street Mall at night, except Friday nights, definitely isn't the best place to be nowadays either and they'll need to do something about it before the Olympic games begin!
It seems like a lot of people will spend time at the Queen's Wharf development after it opens, then the mall might become more of a no-go zone.
I've even been told by police officers to stay away from there at night and I'm wondering if they'll tell the many thousands of visitors that as well. 🙁

You highlighted positives well. Now lwt me balance it a bit a give some negatives..ill limit it to the biggest negative and that being the unreliable economy. It's certainly gotten better the last 5 years or so but it's still developing and a small compared to Sydney and Melbourne. As with most smaller economies, the swings in either direction are more pronounced than those in more substantial and mature economies. The new stuff happening will help mature the economy but its still won't have the economic influence power and strength of what Sydney and Melbourne do. No doubt, that is reflected in property prices and why brisbane is clearly cheaper than Sydney and Melbourne.

  • @phoarey

Most of these 7 items don't have a rat's arse impact on ordinary people. Brisbane, up to around the mid 90s was easy enough to move around. Nowadays, road congestion makes travelling around often unpleasant. I was shocked to homeless sleeping in and near the CBD mall last weekend. Shocking. This is a new thing and brought on I suppose in part by the absurdly high housing prices. Brisbane is effectively an inland city requiring 90 minute drives north or south on weekends to beaches or mountains. If you have a job that can be done outside of a capital city eg. health or construction a regional city would make more sense.
Having said this, Brisbane's climate 10 months of the year is very good (January and February are swelters), the leafy mid to upper socioeconomic suburbs are rather nice and the relatively close access to two coasts, mountain hinterlands and North Stradbroke island are huge positives.

I am a structural engineer in the area of building structures, so it was really interesting to see the investment BCC and others are making in the city for a SEng perspective. Most of the casinos in the world I have seen are not classy joints from a James Bond movie. They're more like an upmarket RSL. Why would anyone move to Brisbane because of that?
And two, the 2032 Olympics. For a start, Brisbane was the only city in the race to hold the 2032 Olympics. There was not one other city vying for it! Why? Because most times the host city loses billions of dollars and are left seriously in debt. Even Sydney's "the best Olympics yet" lost USD$1.5 billion!! I'll bet that Brisbane's budget of $5 billion will be exceeded. What a waste!
Don't get me wrong, I love Brisbane. I have lived here most of my life and have watched it grow from a big and boring country town with some seriously corrupt politicians (you should have lived here in the 70s!), to a pretty cool place to live.

@joesky011 I really appreciated your viewpoint, especially in regard to the casino, and the well-done video paints a positive picture of Brisbane, which is great, yet the reality is that it's not safe in the CBD at all nowadays!
I don't live far away and I'm there nearly every night, for personal reasons, and the amount of people sleeping on the ground etc and affected by meth and/or other drugs is increasing. I imagine that it will be MUCH worse by 2032 as well, going by the videos of suburbs and parts of CBDs in America.
Of course, I don't judge the people because it's usually related to trauma issues, but some of them are downright dangerous. I've even been told by police officers to stay out of the city at night, which was unheard of many years ago. 🙁
