When would we use 'navré' over 'désolé', may I ask?
They are past participles , part of a compound past tense called "passe compose". In fact they work like adjectives, what has consequences if in passe compose they are used with an auxiliary verb "etre" (to be), so if they are reflexive verbs, stative verbs or verbs of movement. Other verbs are used with another auxiliary verb "avoir" ( to have). If you look closesly this video contains a lot of passe compose forms.
As for precise meaning of 'désolé' it refers to "regret/ deep regret" and 'navré' works like "I'm deeply sorry/ deeply saddened that" since it refres to "sadness".
