PRESIDENTE: Jose P. Laurel: Puppet o Patriot? | Stand for Truth

Though many would consider him a villain, even not a president of the country, he did what he could do with the limited resources he had. Still the only president up to this date to serve in all three branches of a government--becoming a senator, an associate justice of the supreme court, and the president of the Philippines. No easy feat.

    Pres. Laurel is one of the most underrated if not the most underrated Philippine president.
    Those were difficult times because World War II was about to broke out. He just used his political tactic and cunning to save our country from casualties and and utter destruction of the Japanese. And he's the only Philippine president to serve in all three branches of the government.

    In President Osmenia's biography, prior to President Quezon's departure for exile to the US as the Japanese forces were approaching Manila, he summoned the country's leaders:Laurel, Roxas, Quirino and others. He instructed them not to fight the approaching army, cooperate with the Japanese for the sake and safety of the Filipinos. When the Japanese took over the country and scheduled presidential elections, the group of officials asked Laurel to run for President, Roxas became Sec. of Agriculture. It is a blessing that Pres Laurel spent most of his time helping to keep the people safe from the brutal occupation. He tried very hard to protect the helpless people.

    The Question is. which government is the legitimate government of the Philippines at his presidency? the Commonwealth ? or Empire of Japan’s sponsored government?

    • @thelionheart7178
      @thelionheart7178 Před 2 lety +3

      A very interesting question. Well, Laurel is still listed as an official president. But, Manuel L. Quezon became president for two terms, due to a national election, people voted for Quezon, as for Laurel he was installed by the Empire of Japan, and for Osmeña he became the president because of the line of succession.

    • @kodoku2942
      @kodoku2942 Před 2 lety

      Good question but that was in a time of war, both Commonwealth and Japanese Empire are legitimate.
      We have a government in exile (handling the war efforts) and a government under Japanese Empire (Japanese Colony).
      This is the reason why Laurel was considered as the Third President. (This should've been Abad Santos but he was killed)

    • @Spynology
      @Spynology Před rokem

      Empire of Japan's Sponsored Government
      Since we recognized us as second republic of the philippines plus Japan formed Philippines Preparatory For Independence Council planning to make Philippines to be independent soon after the war.
      Plus we have rights to govern but the problem of empire of japan sponsored government was the abuse of military and getting our own supply.
