  • Battlefield fans are upset with Battlefield 2042 and the Battlefield 2042 Beta Gameplay. Specialists have taken over the class system and some say this is Battlefield's Call of Duty Warzone, or Apex Legends. It's Controversial.

      I was mostly a COD player, after the slap in the face that was Cold War, I wanted something new. BF2042 was that. I bought bf1 and bfV. I love them, but I wanted something modern. Something that all of my friends wanna play with me. We loved the beta. I hate some of the glitches and the classes, but still, I love it. I see why people hate it. That’s fine. The difference being Titanfall bots are not representation of an actual player (since they are grunts)
      While 2042 on the other hand tries to use bots to replace actual players, which in my opinion creates a much shallow experience since the bots are designed to be mowed down by the players

      @speedyazi5029 Před 2 lety +50

      @@woodydragonest agreed, imo BF bots should be much weaker and smaller in size to easily differentiate them. They should come in squads that deploy on sectors. One grunt is not meant to be player equals but a squad of them can kill a player. As more players join, less spawn and once the server is full then not more bots. It will still keep the player number high but also ensure that the bots stay as they should be, bots.

    The argument with BF becoming more COD-like is due to the fact that most generic shooters nowadays that feel bland and uninspired devolve into replicating the COD formula. BF has always had its unique taste which made it feel more realistic, significantly more skill based and far more strategic. BF did not need to change it's formula at all as it has already established a very dedicated fanbase and by slowly moving away from what gave it the glory it has always had, the complaints proceed to increase rightfully so.

      I felt the same way as you did. One of my mates made a good point though. I also agree that making the maps much bigger and adding players doesnt change the gameplay at all. You end up having the same long periods without a fight. However, what it does is both. Whilst on the whole there are quiet empty areas to plan an attack, there is also the possibility that a lot of players will go to a certain check point and it will feel like all out warfare. So this gives us the potential to have massive battles, where we never had that before. Granted, they might be long and far between but when they do happen it's going to be hectic. Just my two cents. Peace

    I've refunded this, after playing around 10h of the beta. I REALLY wanted to like this game. Been playing BF since BF2 i've only skipped BF5. The problem this game has is that it has ZERO immersion. Not a single time did I feel like i was taking part of a grand scale war. I could jump info BF4 right now (which i still do from time to time) and get that feeling within 5 minuts. The gun play is gimped, the heli feels wierd to fly, the jets are useless, tanks are on ice. Also, i did not one time feel like i made a difference. Kill a squad on an objektive and start capping it? 3 guys will fall from the sky to find and kill you (parachuting across the map). Kill a tank? Another will spawn right after, leaving you hard earned kill point less, from a strategic large scale view. And dont get me started on operators. That must be the stupiest mistake in game design history. I guess good, true, authentic wargames are a niche genre now, it boggels my mind, but furtunatly we got squad and hell let loose. Have to say I was disappointed with the beta, as someone who's played every Battlefield since Bad Company it's sad to see it stray so far from it's roots. There are some good feature but the specialists have killed team play, everyone can essentially be a one man army with no class trade off. I’ve been playing Battlefields on console since BC2. I’ve enjoyed them all to varying degrees. My biggest concerns after the 2042 beta are how the specialists are tied to specific skins. Maybe further cosmetic customization will come into play in full release. The specialists seem to replace what used to be the class system. Which doesn’t necessarily bother me but what I loved about the older games was how distinct the classes felt and how useful a good mix was for your squads. The UI definitely needs improvement. I was constantly thrown off by the giant pop-up banner and your combat scoring being moved to the right. Felt the shooting was pretty good but the movement felt like a step back from V. For me the beta seemed to run smoother on subsequent days leading me to think they were tweaking the servers.

      @v3nom11065 Před 2 lety +16

      I mean, I also had my complaints about every game and every beta. This one.. is just different.
      In all of those previous tiles (I own every single one other than Vietnam and Hardline), complaints could generally be limited to movement, TTK, balancing, and the general bug/performance issues. Things that can be fixed with some updating and listening to the community. And in fact, I truly think nearly every one of us can agree that BFV had one of the best movement systems so far. Well, that's gone.. it doesn't even match much of any of the previous titles overall.
      2042... man. The "classes" at the top titled Medic and such... those are literally just Call of Duty loadouts. Choose any operator, any guns, and any gadget. The names should just be "Default Loadout 1" at that point. Then you have the plus menu.... the whole point of Battlefield and the classes are that sort of Rock Paper Scissors mechanic. Everyone can technically beat everyone. But as a team moves up, different roles and weapons/attachments shine depending on the map and location. Now.. everyone can just be everything at once. Then you have the way vehicles take a backseat to infantry play, but that very well could be fixable.. but my faith is low because of everything else. And of course, specialists. I was willing to just let them slide. Just deal with it. That was my compromise. I get it. But the third person takedowns... the hero perks... why couldn't a system similar to BFV be put into place? Its literally just the skin part that makes money. Instead, we're also creeping into RB6 territory and totally shifting focus again.
      I'd really just like to see a proper Battlefield game take the best of all the previous titles and build on it instead of moving in a new, lesser/dumbed down, direction just to capitalize on the MTX craze and pull a new audience in. The audience has already been overlapped. CoD and Battlefield were two distinctly different shooters and people played them based on what kind of action they wanted. Now its just so damn similar, what's the point?
      I'm desperate for this game to make changes and return to the roots because I just know if it doesn't, Battlefield as we know it is dead and the new audience has taken over.

    Though there may be a lot of hate going on (it's the internet, so), I'd say criticism and hate are not the same and I've seen far more criticism from big fans of the series that want good games. I enjoyed aspects and I've no doubt we'll get a great game. But the issues with the specialists, gadgets and classes are real. The vision presented in the beta for these things isn't good enough for Battlefield and without really knowing where that will go, it's pretty understandable that people are freaking out a bit.

      Long explanation:
      The original live service game was Team Fortress 2. The game had 9 memorable and still beloved characters, so when the cosmetics grew people wanted to customize these characters. Its still insanely lucrative.
      Fast forward a few years and live service games have become far more popular. Games like Overwatch, R6, and Bo4 try to emulate the tf2 formula in some way w/ the following formula
      1) have a long list of characters. Whales will want a skin for each so the more the better.
      2) each character has a name, personality, and a unique nationality to get people "attached" to them.
      3) each character has, or appears to have, a distinct playstyle to encourage playing all of them, getting attached, and wanting skins
      Its not just a large character roster but this specific formula with some variation. Its why all the "hero games" have such a similar roster. The difference here is that, while TF2 was made with the intention of well written, fun to play characters, these games are checking off a list to make money, which is what makes it feel soulless.

    On top of that, the restrictions that were made by classes in previous Battlefield games made ways for various players' skill sets (from maining specific classes) to orchestrate for good teamwork. This is obviously not the case for Battefield 2042.
    The system just felt extremely wacky and out of place for a game like Battlefield from the very start.

      same can go for people not dropping med crates or ammo crates and found myself being the only one in my squad that ran ammo crate out of the entire team.

I doubt BF2042's new system is anything to lose sleep over, you will still be able to design your own stereotypical classes of ye olde days.

BF has always separate itself because of this class based system to balance out playstyles. What's happening now is that anyone and everyone can carry anything which results in less cooperation as a whole team and is why I lost more matches when we were ahead. No one is playing objective because the point system rewards you more for getting kills instead of capturing and defending the flags. Instead you have people playing TDM on B & D1 & 2 capture points.

      But i don't think the specialist system is that bad. You can't do everything as one person besides maybe the medic specialist letting you heal while having another gadget. You still need someone with AT, someone with AA, someone with ammo, someone with repair tool etc. But they are able to choose an interesting character that they like with the weapon they like. Back in BF2 an engineer was restricted to shotguns, a wrench and AT mines, but in BF4 they weren't really restricted that much, might aswell remove the limits altogether, they were an do-it-all repair and destroy tank class with powerful automatic weapons to boot, where you had the engineer and AT class as 2 distinct classes with limited main weapons & tools in BF2. Whats so different really, comparing BF3/4 to BF2042? Just superficial aesthethic differences with a minor impact on gameplay.

What I mean by this is in previous games certain weapons and gadgets were locked behind specific classes. Like the rpg would be in engineer and the med kit would be obviously with the medic. But in 2042 a guy with a ghillie suit could have an rpg, or a guy without a ghillie suit could have a sniper. That’s something as well that I think should be in the game.
