MEACHAM - “American Patrol” - "The President's Own" U.S. Marine Band

- On March 11, 2018, the Marine Band presented a Living History program titled Marine Corps Women’s Reserve Band Tribute. The program told the story of the talented and adventurous women who served our country in a most unique and unprecedented manner. Author of the book Bands of Sisters: U.S. Women’s Military Bands During World War II, Dr. Jill Sullivan served as a guide through the personal accounts of those very women who blazed a trail for many to follow. The Marine Corps Women’s Reserve Band of Camp Lejeune was established under the watch of “The President’s Own” to support bond drives and was active during World War II from 1943-45. In 1944, the ensemble even sat in for one of the Marine Band’s popular “Dream Hour” broadcasts, a program that will be reenacted in its entirety as part of this concert. The performance took place in Schlesinger Concert Hall at Northern Virginia Community College in Alexandria, Va. Conducted by Capt. Michelle A. Rakers.

Who's here not because of any reason but just to listen to this wonderful piece?
And yet there are still over 20 dislikes?? Unbelievable
I'm here because of the Casio SA-7 demo, a tune I grew up with
I'm here because of Circus Circus
I’m here because we’re playing it for our spring concert
I don’t see any other reason. :D
The conductor's performance is so elegant
Yes, majestic
I can not agree more. She is also graceful. What a wonderful lady with her supper band!
I am voting for this one on Today's Marching Madness 2022 because I played this on the piano as a teen, since my Mom had the sheet music! I always loved this one!
If I were in the percussion section, it would be a struggle to not bust into a swing after growing up listening to the Glenn Miller version!
Exactly
Only version I knew till now
Honestly
And here I was thinking this was a Glen Miller number.
...IF YOU'RE IN THE "PERCUSSION SECTION"- DON'T KNOCK IT-!!!
get it? get it? get it?
(snucker-snucker-snucker!!)
We played this in high school in northern Illinois in 1955.
I'm playing it in high school rn
ok you old fuck
@@ivanxdxd why so rude?
@@ivanxdxd Dude? What the actual fuck is wrong with you?
Hell yes brother, American as apple pie. Praise Allah!
This march recreates the experience of a listener watching a parade go by. It starts soft as the first band approaches, grows louder as the parade arrives, then fades out as it moves on.
Kinda like “in a Persian market “
That is the definition of a "Patrol".
@@meganluke444 Indeed.
This music makes me remember to my childhood game, Circus Charlie. Btw, the music so amazing!
big fun of that FC game!
Loli ZeRoX The horse riding one and jumping on trampolines is the hardest one for me.
@@migrated4568For me it was the ball level.
Thankyou Capt. Glen Miller USA KIA 1944. American Patrol was one of his best
1:22 you can see the upper b flat clarinets raise they shoulders on the high note presumably for breath support, really cool and funny little detail!
I'm hearing Columbia Gem of the Ocean instrumentals through the middle. Awesome medley and great tune.
...MAGNIFICENT-!!!
BRAVO all! Awesome clarinets!!!
A great tune. ! I always picture it as a small group of destroyers sailing out of the distance, passing close by and then receding as they go on their way.
Clara and I can't wait to play this! Clara's my clarinet.
Nice
Mine was named Clair I. Net!
I always loved playing this piece! Outstanding!
I love the American Military. I love this Country. Every time I hear this piece it brings me to tears.
My father loved this piece. He was a medic in the Korean War.
I salute the American Armed Forces. However, Marines have a special spot in my heart.
I have seen several CZcams videos with this "American Patrol". This is the best musical performance and the best edited.
Thank you so much.
@Google user Great Minds think alike!!!
Beautiful playing. I love the slide show pictures.
My Dad was in the Navy at age 17 in WW II and he always loved Glen Millers swing version of this in 1942.
oh my god, those photos are so valuable
It is the most beautiful thing that I heard and when I heard it, I felt a tranquility in my whole body and put me in a state of peace.
Amaze.

I just had this stuck in my head and was trying to figure out if it was American Patrol or another patriotic song. This song is an absolute banger. We played a version of this last year for a band concert and it was fun.
Hello. It's amazing music thanks god bless you and bless American people
2:18 Dixie! One of my favorite marches. It and Stars and Stripes Forever represent all parts of America equally.
Today in our age It is rare to get a music composed with such richness, substance, and glamour. For sure the good old timers had left a neat piece that could be arranged by different scholars of and yet never lose its originality.
The Piece that I always hear inside my head.
Отличное исполнение и композиция. Браво !
В такие моменты я забываю за что презираю Америку.
Amazing show❤❤❤❤❤
Fantastic!!!
My band does Sousa March Mania in my Middle School and I’m probably the only kid that cares enough to keep up with the bracket, which this song is a part of 🥲
Wait my march what now?
Hello, great band master great band thanks god bless you and bless American people
Wonderful!!! Love it !!
This is perfect
Who’s here because of band
Such an uplifting tune and beautifully played.
Wow! So in tune.
Americans all, and God bless them all.
This piece reminds me of the movie 'The Last Detail' with Jack Nicholson, Otis Young, and Randy Quaid.
i love the conductor's expression! so tough and controlling.
Dixie for sure at about 2;22 beatiful thanks
Nice conducting and nice clarinet tone!

Beautiful band, congratulations!
I love this march, maybe because I used to play clarinet. The dynamics of increasing volume in the solo clarinet, then having the others joining in, is really beautiful. The bands helped us win WW2, here is how.
The Marines are not wearing their rank on their uniforms, but I like watching the Army and Navy bands too. The Army often wears a rank patch. I was surprised at how high a rank some of these guys and girls have, so I did some math to see how much the band costs in basic salary.
I counted 55 marines in this band, for this march anyway. If they were all E5's it comes to about $3585 a month, so $2.4M a year. If the average rank is E8 they each make $60M a year, so it comes to $3.3M a year. Compared to what a professional civilian orchestra costs, this is probably a bargain.
Back during WW2 I am sure there were thousands of military bands, certainly in the Navy each large ship had a band. At Pearl Harbor when all the BB's were sunk, one of the BB's bands, the Oklahoma I think, was lassoed into helping the code breakers decode the Japanese codes which we had broken. They were so good that they helped the code-breakers and Admirals position our 3 remaining Carriers in June 1942 for the Midway Battle. Which is why we won in 3 1/2 years. Thanks to the clarinets.
american patrol = dixie + columbia , the gem of ocean + yankee doodle

Great song
I came here because of the theme song of a South Korean kids show that had the exact same melody. If y’all are wondering what it’s called, the show is called "Chiro"

Hit like for the Circus Charlie.

When you vote for American Patrol, you are voting for a whole bunch of tunes!
I believe the conductor is a major, not a captain.
Well, it's actually a medley. Could anyone please tell me what is the name of the march that begins in 1 : 28 ?
Columbia, Gem of The Ocean aka The Red, White, & Blue
Want this played when two stars rise in The Wizzarding World of Harry Potter, at Universal Orlando Resort in Orlando, Florida!
This is the greatest march ever.
I’m playing this rn and I’m in 8 grade

You think they've cut Dixie from the charts since this was recorded?
Who's here because of Wii Music?
Well done. This unreconstructed old Jarhead appreciates those few bars of "Dixie," as it is surely an American tune.
If Lincoln himself ordered a band to play it at the end of the civil war. Its damn well american enough
