Tbh Cal aside I think the most heartbreaking one is the two women asking where their husbands are. Especially the woman who keeps asking if there’s another passenger list though the crewman keeps telling her there isn’t.
In the original script Cal finds Rose on the Carparthia deck but she tells him to forget about her and to not find her or she will tell everyone about his actions of the night before. She also tells him to tell her mother that she died.
It hurts my feelings that Jack died ...Rose doesn't have a chance to have a family with Jack but, atleast they have so much time together when Jack is still alive
That’s what makes it sad Jack, a genuine good man that managed to make a young girl fall in love with him in just a few days who deserved to live, died. While Cal, who managed to make millions of viewers hate him in just an hour who was an arrogant son of a bitch that didn’t deserve it, lived. And that’s what makes the story even more tragic. I’m surprised Rose was able to fall in love again, but I’m sure it hurt to love another considering Jack is her soulmate, but then again Jack made her promise too
Yeah i really wish she could start a family with jack things would be different imagine jacks and rose's kid's meeting cals and his unnamed wife's kid's i wonder what that be like

Is that real? Or are you a great writer? I presume you know about A Night to Remember. ANTR is more fact than fiction, although there is some fabricated stuff. There is a fictitious couple who exist for the sole purpose of an ironic killing who are deliriously happy whenever we see them except when they try to swim away. They get smashed by the funnel when trying to swim for the overturned boat. Most of the others are real, but another fictional example is an upperclass man who lies to get his wife and children into a boat and is among the first to know about the dire situation from Andrews.
I wish they would have kept that scene instead of the one we ended up with. For two reasons 1. It showed Rose finally standing up for herself moving on in life on her own terms. 2. Because this scene never made sense to me. It didn't occur to him to go straight to the woman who's covered up and has her back turn towards you. Like I know it's a nice visual to see but still.
@@iamtriston666 3. For the typical cheesy one-liner being thrown back at a character that the main protagonist had a quarrel with. "Is this in any way unclear" SOOOOO EPIC, Rose hitting him with his own words after that table-incident
In the script there is actually a scene where Cal spots her in the crowd at carpathia! Rose says that she won’t tell anyone of Cal’s actions on the Titanic in exchange that he leaves her alone for the rest of their lives and will not try to find her. Cal asks what he’ll tell Rose’s mother, and Rose says ”You’ll tell her her daughter died with the Titanic.” Cal then says ”You’re precious to me, Rose.” The script then states that it’s obvious that in his way, the only way he knows, Cal truly loves her. Rose then says ”Jewels are precious. Goodbye, Mr. Hockley.”
Even though Cal was an asshole.. I was happy to see him survive the sinking. It was just so horrible for everyone.. BUT when we get to land I’m kicking your ass! 😂
When I saw the movie and heard about Cal killing himself I applauded. He was a creep. He probably made his wife miserable. And other people as well. Goodbye creep.
Notice that she never mentions her mother or what became of. Probably never even made an effort to find out. Clearly, no love lost. You have to think though that because Rose didn’t marry Cal, the mother was forced to sell off her things, and to go back to work as a seamstress. Probably lived out the rest of her life as a commoner, which was likely worse than death for her.
He was not looking for Rose he was looking for the Hart of the ocean that was still in her pocket. He never really loved her, she was just a trofee at his side.

One of the ship's legacies was that she had 20 lifeboats that could only accommodate 1,178 people, despite the fact that there were approximately 2,208 on board. If they had got more lifeboats, then it’s quite possible that more people could of been saved.

@@GrammarNazi1988 I somewhat agree however I think Cal was a toughie and loved a woman in this quirky, materialistic way. I think he was looking for her because of that kind of love romantic and idealistic people may never understand. One can see in this scene he's face - it's a face who is truly sad because he did not find his love one.
0:27 I never noticed this before, but look at the people right next to the Carpathia staff member who has the tray of tea. It's the little girl Cal used to get on the lifeboat at the woman who took her after Cal dumped her. Their faces aren't very visible, but you can tell that it is them by the woman's sweater and the little girl's shawl. You can see them again at 0:43. I hope the woman adopted her. They seem to have formed a bond -- they both went through an unthinkable trauma, and both most likely lost their families. They need each other!
That woman was Rhoda Abbott, a strong Third Class passenger and the only woman to end up in the water and survive that night, she lost her own teenage sons that night and refused to board as her boys were old enough to be denied access. They were seperated when the ship took a dive, so the sons died but she got back to Collapsible A.
I just realized that there’s a lot of suicide in this movie… Rose attempted suicide, Officer Murdoch succeeded in committing suicide, and Cal ended up doing the same… Jesus!
And just to think the intervention from Captain Rostron when he ordered the heating on board the Carpathia to be switched off so her engines could steam ahead to the scene to save as many survivors as possible. The ship was only designed to have a max speed of 14.5 knots, but she ended up steaming ahead at 17.5 knots - three and a half knots above her max operating limit to reach the scene in 3.5 hours. Thus resulting in the Carpathia saving 705 passengers, If he never made that order he may of saved barely any of the titanic passengers
@Bill Patrick Jones Those deleted scenes do not count... Those deleted scenes are irrelevant... Hockley got with Bukater due to political reasons and loved his money more...

In my opinion, Cal is not a villain. But a victim to his wealth and ego. He is not entirely evil in my opinion which makes him an interesting antagonist. He still wanted to provide for Rose and he got cheated on later, lost his wealth and his fiance
Well there was this one instance were it showed a shred of humanity in Cal when Fabrizio and the other passengers in the water got crushed by the ship's falling smokestack.
@@Heraldo_Del_Mar oh interesting. Yes, like I said he tried to shoot them because of his temperament issue. The man seems temperemental and dangerous once you hit or trigger his feelings
Agreed. And when he grabbed the crying little girl so he’d be allowed on a lifeboat, he saved her life. It doesn’t matter that it was purely out of self-interest-no one else on the ship even bothered to help her. Regardless of his intent, he did the right thing without thinking twice about it.

I honestly wish she had let him notice her just so that he would know she’s OK. Because even though he was a horrible horrible person, you could tell in his face that he was worried that she had died.
To be honest, I can't blame Cal for killing himself when losing money. Change can be difficult to adjust to. Also, in regards to money, we live in a society where pretty much everything costs money. Want to get together with a friend? You're probably going to be grabbing coffee or lunch, which costs money. Want to start dating? You'll probably be going to a movie or a show, which costs money. Want to live in an apartment or house? That costs a lot of money, and it's illegal in many places to sleep on the streets or set up a tent somewhere. In addition to that, people look at you with judgment when you're clearly homeless. A friend has their birthday party at the bar or the club? That can end up costing a lot of money. Except for having a home, nowhere here have I mentioned materialistic goods. It's all aspects of living an active social life that I mentioned here in regards to money. I can, however, blame Cal for treating Rose as his property, framing Jack, and showing no compassion for anyone other than himself.
Cal could have gotten a regular job and worked his way back up, but his ego wouldn't allow that! Cal never learned how 2 be happy without money! Even his wife and children weren't enough 2 go on living 4!
A bit of poetic justice though, Cal being a smug rich jerk with a massive ego it turned out to be his own downfall. He fails to shoot Jack or Rose but shoots himself.
Cal ends up collecting his families millions, insurance on the diamond, and getting married and having kids and living a happy next 17 years still the stock market crash
0:36 do you see this guy on the stairs? he is the leader of the engine room. how depressing it was for him to think that some of his men died and he couldn't do something...
Am I the only one who felt sorry for Cal a bit? I would almost say he’s one of the most tragic characters ever written. I believe he cared about Rose and deep down wanted to be a better person but his obsession with money and power pushed him over the edge. After the scene when he is done chasing Jack and Rose you can see he cared more about the diamond than Rose herself hence why he was laughing about leaving the diamond in the coat he put on Rose. He is basically a broken man at that point , because everything he did backfired. Separating Rose and Jack didn’t work, trying to frame Jack didn’t work , and trying to shoot him didn’t work either. I personally think had Jack lived and they saw Cal I believe she would have gave him back the diamond and Cal would have left them alone for good.
why feeling sorry for him? Throughout the movie he portrayed himself as an abusive, manipulative and absolutely unlikable character. He even cheated his way into a life boat by stealing that child.
@@kornbroetchen99 I could be mistaken here, but I think that child had been separated from their parents and in the panic no one cared about them. Olympic; Titanic's sister ship also heard the SOS call, but they were further away than the Carparthia, over 200 miles. The Olympic was within 100 miles of the last known position when they received a message from the Carpathia that Titanic had sunk with other 1500 lost. Ismay refused to authorise the transfer of survivors onto Olympic which had more than enough room and plenty of food being a much larger vessel. His reasoning was that putting the traumatised survivors on board a ship that looks almost identical to the one they narrowly escaped death may result in a few hysterical meltdowns.
0:10 They've done Boxhall dirty. He hardly gets any scenes and they even made Lowe light the green candles, while it was Boxhall in boat 2 who did that. The only line he got was when Titanic's stern was up in the air: "Bloody pull faster, and pull!"
Not sure of cals age here though he is much older. Late 20s early 30s. Its stated in the beginning that Rose dewitt buketer is listed as having died on titanic at age 17. Age 16 or 17 is legal consent to marry someone off though in some states they may require a parents signature. Though rose and her mom either originally from Europe or maybe NYC. But its her mom pushed her onto cal to marry him because its all about money for there survival in the first class. Mom seemed to hang on him more she probably wanted to marry him but too old. Rose tried to convince herself that she loved Cal more for the pressure of trying to keep there class status going. Its jack convinces her to break free it took the sinking of the ship for her to break free change her identity and yeh there could have been a chance here for her to leap up and say Cal its me i am alive and tell him to screw off and start a new life but she chose to hide under the blanket and let him go off. I wonder what became of her mom after the lifeboat rescue did she go poor or marry to have money or work as a seamstress or her mom die of a broken heart eventually loss of her hubby and then thinking rose is dead.

Cal got away with trying to kill Jack and Rose, 😯 lucky
It hurts my feelings that Jack died ...Rose doesn't have a chance to have a family with Jack but, atleast they have so much time together when Jack is still alive
That’s what makes it sad Jack, a genuine good man that managed to make a young girl fall in love with him in just a few days who deserved to live, died. While Cal, who managed to make millions of viewers hate him in just an hour who was an arrogant son of a bitch that didn’t deserve it, lived. And that’s what makes the story even more tragic.
@@TheNotverysocial No I suck at writing. Look up Titanic script pdf or something. It's all online
I wish they would have kept that scene instead of the one we ended up with. For two reasons

@@thephilosopher1663 Not necessarily -- it could have been an ego thing with Cal.
Imagine if Cal saw her
Cal was told directly by Murdoch that his money couldn't save his life, but he never really learned his lesson.
Even after a horrible disaster, they still separated by class.

Cal should be the one who died, not Jack. Instead, Cal just crossed paths with Rose 😅
0:47 Never noticed bofore that Cal's sleave was torn
Well Cal, isn't this what you wanted back on the staircase? Jack Dawson and Rose Dewitt Bukater are gone.
