Here I will show you how to replace the Liftgate actuator. Applies to most Ford vehicles. Be sure to buy an OEM part. Chinese parts will not last long.
I ordered the part on Amazon and installed it myself. Not bad for a 75-year-old woman, if I do say so myself. If I hadn't seen this video (and a couple of others) I would never have attempted to do this, so thanks very much for posting it!
HOT TIP! ;) I just did mine. When installing the new part you don’t have to mess with the clip. It just snaps into place when you push on it. Thanks for the video!
I didn't even know my truck was MISSING this part until I went researching all the features and realized whoa, why isn't my SEL lifting? Went out today and no shock attached..I hear the motor though. So I'm going to buy the part, put it on and hope for the best. 😎
@@ShersGarage I keep coming up with different part numbers. Literally just got off of the phone with Ford when your msg came across. The video even has a different part number. But I'll def figure this out. Thx for the reply!!! I'd love to get this work. I didn't see a part on Amazon like the lady below, but Ford has it for $230.
@@Fiya_gamez In some cases part numbers will be different because part had different revisions. Also part will change from one model year to another. As long as the connectors are same and part looks the same, it should work. Best thing to do would be to get them from your local Ford store, they can look it up by VIN. Online prices could be less, but factor in shipping, might come out the same.
How do you know if it’s the motor or the strut ? My lift gate only opens a little bit now and I have to lift it up myself and does not go down by itself
Hi Sher! question - I am having the same issue on my 2019 ford flex - the little clip that you said to be careful about loosening - well it DID flip off. How on earth do I get it back on? I am now left with an actuator/shock? the part that the little clip is attached to! I still cant tell if the issue is with the shock (not the two struts on either side) and sorry I don't know which part is called what! anyway.... now the main lift shock thing is just hanging in the back of my car bcoz it wont stay connected without the clip. I am opening and closing manually but its still tryingto open and close partially by itself. not safe! I suppose I could detach it at the fuse thing at base of shock? sorry for a million questions - really just need to know how to reattach the clip! THANK YOU!!!
To put the clip back on, you will need to use some needle nose pliers. If I remember right, you can expand the clip to fit back in where it supposed to go. All of them attach the same way.
@@ShersGarage thanks I tried that.... it doesn't budge or expand no matter the tool I used. I'm afraid I'm gonna have to buy a whole new thing. so annoying because I don't even know if that is the original problem :-(
@@lorabrudniak3739 if it wasn't going up or down. Or going up or down with some help, most likely it is the motor/actuator. You might want to get someone who has some mechanical experience try fixing it.

That's great. Considering that tailgate is heavy!
@@ShersGarage what yr Flex is in your video? Mine is a 2014 SEL
@@Fiya_gamez It is 2016.
Good job Turner!

Thank you for the video saved me lots of money just changed mines out today 😊
I'm having the same issue but will definitely do this for my main strut. Thank you for sharing this 🙏 ❤️ 💜 ♥️
I got a 2019 and I needed to replace this about 6 months ago my trunk opens but doesn't close .
When installing, you don’t have to move the clips up. They just push on

If you hear it, should work with all the parts.

Dealership just quoted me $609.00 for this motor.
@@johnnygavita awww man..that super sucks. I'm still haven't bought the actuator yet..
I only wish you had shown the finished product installed and working… thanks for the video nonetheless!
It still works great! Sorry, didn't think about it because it started pouring down rain.
Did you try resetting power lift gate before replacing parts? Was your problem intermittent? Or Did it do that everytime? Thanks!
Electric strut has failed. That fixed the problem.
thanks!

Strut helps it to stay up and go up faster. Yours is most likely the motor. They go out often.

I came here to see how to disassemble the housing around the bottom of the strut and you didn’t include it in the video, you skipped ahead.
It just pops off. No screws. Sorry about that.
