I had a Fiat 124 Spyder in the early 90's with the 1.8 liter before I became a mechanic for a living. Since then I've specialized mainly in German cars (VW, Audi, Porsche). In the last 20 years I've only felt that sensation of harmony in a mechanical sense a few times. I got a ride in an 89 Ferrari F40 that was my dream come true. Although I now own an Audi B5 S4 and a Porsche 944 non turbo, I still have a want for another early Italian car. I'd love a 124 Coupe. Build a 2 liter with Weber DCOE"s or an Alfa. Not sure which one, but the sound and soul of an Italian DOHC engine is priceless. Great video.
Never forget always add 1% good smokefree Api TC two stroke oil to the fuel when using modern ultra dry aggressive ethanolized pump fuels in old clasic cars, in Germany most Alfa and Ferrari drivers do so. This prevents corrosion in tank lines and carbs and lubricates the valves and top piston rings. You can minimize top piston ring wear around 40% when using a top lubricant, also two stroke oil contains anti vapor lock additives and sodium that lubricates the exhaust valves stems when using unleaded fuels on engines constructed for
Tweet Protocol if you live in a non-dusty environment, it is not such a big risk. And you save a lot of fuel on less intake resistance. So if you run with air filter you pay more for fuel. If without airfilter, than you spend the fuel-savings on engine overhauling. :)
Haffschlappe and/or fill always 100 octane premium fuel into your oldtimer/youngtimer. Premium fuels are not subject of this stupid ethanol law, they run on 2-3% (or less) ethanol, not 10-20%, like regular 95 octane fuels in the EU.
