  • Congratulations to MD Anderson Cancer Center's Dr. Jim Allison, who has jointly won the 2018 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his immunotherapy research. Dr. Allison’s work has led to new and effective cancer therapies that free the immune system to attack tumors, a breakthrough called immune checkpoint blockade.
The Nobel Prize is the world’s most prestigious annual award for outstanding work in physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature and promotion of peace.
Dr. Allison is chair of Immunology and executive director of MD Anderson's Moon Shots Program's Immunotherapy platform.

Dr. Allison saved my life as a child when I had spinal meningitis. An experimental drug was used. This was about 45 years ago. The honor he has received is long overdue. I would love to meet him someday and thank him personally.

Thank you Dr. Allison for giving my husband Scott who called you today on NPR On Point. His treatment was at Froedtert Cancer Center in Milwaukee, WI and we are very hopeful for his outcomes. The tumors he has are all NOT GROWING and we are so grateful! While the side effects were difficult I can say it was worth it to hear the tumors are not growing. Scott had 3 doses of ipilimumab and nivolumab and the 4th dose of only
nivolumab. Scott has Stage 4 metastatic melanoma in his lung and they found one spot on his brain. The
medicine is working and we are very happy.
