    To much aluminum. Makes it heavier and way more expensive. All you really need is the shocks and drive shafts. Everything else is useless and expensive to repair…not to mention when you add aluminum to stiffen the truck up you will brake other parts that are a pain to fix over an over again. I beat the heck out of my hoss an have no issues.

      Totally correct. I have an Xmaxx and had to remove the aluminum hubs and c hubs immediately since it wouldn't survive ONE JUMP. Ridiculous! making an RC too heavy is not a good thing. 👍

    Good video! I just got a hoss a few days ago. I’m coming from a trx4 21’ bronco. And oh man the hoss is crazy fun. It does seem like a lot of people break them lol. So when I break mine I’m coming back to this video because I really like your setup!

    The new XHD driveline kit, part 9080(g,x,r etc) solves a lot of the same issues. The maxx style driveshafts handle the abuse just fine, also includes proprietary steel wheel hexes.

    16 2s batteries and 5 3s batteries have now been ran through my Hoss. Not a single axel break. Plastic gear servo went out after the third battery. Hard ripping on a short course track a built in my backyard with a couple 4 foot kicker Jumps.

      It sounds like you have mastered the art of throttle control, nicely done! A lot of guys when they first get these trucks rip around at full throttle in loose dirt or gravel, or they are on the throttle or brake hard when they land jumps and they break a lot of axels. Glad to hear you are having fun, I would love to see the backyard track!

    Good vid. Just got a Hoss for my son. Looking into what we need to do over time. Shocks are gonna be first for me. I don't like the plastic ones. I had to rebuild one after a bent shaft (another reason) and it hasn't worked right since, no matter how hard I fussed over it.

    Hey man,. This truck definitely has a steep curve to getting it dialed and durable. We finally received all of our parts and have done all of the upgrades (except the A arms (so far) ) however the metal hexes stripped the plastic hex inside the wheel yesterday. I am wondering what wheels you recommend or if you have considered the ProLine 17mm hex kit? Not sure if that could be the long term solution. What do you think?

    • @1Rockyjl
      @1Rockyjl  Před rokem

      The stock sledgehammer have been the best I have found so far. Proline does make some pretty tough wheels and I have seen several guys running them with no issues. I have also thought about the 17mm conversion, but it is just that much more strain on the drivetrain and I worry about stressing the system.

    We just opened a new Traxxas Hoss for my son for Christmas and it seems we have driveline issues on day 1 after just 1 run. Seems like its the center diff. I took everything apart, even checked the hex nuts on wheels. Going to order the aluminum center diff and hope that solves the issue.

    • @1Rockyjl
      @1Rockyjl  Před rokem +1

      The Hoss is a beast and contains enough power to easily break itself. I usually reccomend that new drivers put the ESC into training mode for the first week or so as you learn throttle control. The biggest thing I can say is make sure you are not landing jumps on anything more than 25% throttle.

    • @duffyrides
      @duffyrides Před rokem

      @@1Rockyjl thanks for the reply. I can hear the motor spinning up but the center driveshaft hardly spins . This is why I think it is the Center diff that is gone. So I ordered the Traxxas aluminum one for 69 dollars ( Part number 6780)

    • @1Rockyjl
      @1Rockyjl  Před rokem +2

      @@duffyrides did you check the blue aluminum center driveshaft? The end where it plugs into the center diff could be stripped out.

    • @1Rockyjl
      @1Rockyjl  Před rokem +1

      Also, just to confirm, you did check to make sure the inside of the black plastic wheel hexs were not stripped out by the metal axel pin correct?

    • @duffyrides
      @duffyrides Před rokem

      @@1Rockyjl Hey, I checked the wheel hex and they are still good. I did not remove the blue centre driveshaft , that's the only thing I haven't removed. You think it's likely that would have stripped that easily ? I'm surprised this truck destroyed these parts so quickly , we weren't even doing jumps or anything. Just driving it around on our lawn. We have the Slash as well for 3 years now and I'm only now about to replace the motor on that.

    • @1Rockyjl

      Thanks for your feedback! We have warped both the stock arms as well as the arms from the HD kit which causes all kinds of wobbles at high speeds. We have yet to bend an aluminum arm (7 months use).

    • @1Rockyjl
      @1Rockyjl  Před rokem +1

      As for the hex with screws. Prior to installing these, we would either strip out the inside of the plastic hex, or if we used the aluminum hex, we would shear off the pins on every trip out. With these hexs we only shear off a pin about once a month. I suppose it just all depends on each persons driving style, but we have had excellent success with thia set up and wanted to share it with others. Thanks again!
