Hey Charlie! The reason your yugioh cards went down in value is because they ALL got reprinted in different rarities (including rarity bumps and alternate arts) also besides the value of cards from short printing, the meta game has changed enough so that these cards don’t see as much play as they first did. Why? Because now that everyone has access to those cards at affordable prices, those plays become a lot more predictable and easier to counter, which makes cards like Apollusa fall out of favor. This happens with every 4 core sets in yugioh throughout the year, all of which can expect to get reprinted in the megatins the following year.
This is going beyond big dick energy it's like some boss level fight for the delivery dude where u always meet weird people, Charlie's house is probably something else with the presence of moby dick

Charlie said he has estimated 100,000 cards (I am sure he has more) worth a value of $37,583. Which would mean that on average his cards have a value of 37¢. Meaning he is losing money overall.

I feel like selling his cards would not be a fun time for him. For the smaller cards he would have to make them into sets which takes a long time to sort and is very mind numbing. He would have to list the cards on some website, have someone buy the card, and then put the card in an envelope. He will also have to keep track of where he is shipping too so he will need to get different stamps and taxes are different state to state. Selling cards is not some side thing you can do on the side for some extra money you have to commit to them otherwise you will only make a loss. If he decides to sell his more valuable cards (which he wont) he will have a much easier time because he won't have to organize it but he will most likely deal with snobby buyers if the cards lose value later on.

The gaia the knight origin that is $13 is the ultra rare version won in raffles for events, the ones you got rid of are only 50 cents each since they were the much more common super rare version. Man I remember being hard in the paint with Yugioh back when i was growing up. Now that I work in a comic book store I know exactly what cards and sets I had prior. I remember having a Kaiba and Yugi Evolution starter decks, a Pegasus starter(my absolute favorite at the time for some reason. I remember I just loved how Relinquished looked..), Dragons Roar and Warriors Triumph structure decks, and I know I had popped open a few or 7 packs from Labyrinth of Nightmare, Enemy of Justice, Cybernetic Revolution and Dark Crisis. Such good times. I still have images of certain cards floating in my head from when I used to play with them. I have a few commons in a baggie from when I was young that I like to recollect on(the ones that survived under my bed essentially. I am not sure where the rest went. I am sure they ended up at the landfill). It is cool seeing this hobby blow up now. I do enjoy chatting with the "new generation" yugioh players at my work. The game has changed incredibly.

The Gaia origin that was listed at $15 is the promotional card they gave out. Not the super rare version in the boxes you opened. Just a heads up so you know you didn't lose money.

But the health of the game gets impacted when the economy of it is thrown into disarray, like imagine tomorrow if they just said they're releasing a set with the 200 most expensive cards, at £1.75 a pack. You cannot tell me that 90% of the big money spenders that make up for most of Konami's profits wouldn't just straight up leave. Even Konami would sink and the game would be over. That is always the worst case scenario that could happen.
That’s not how it works actually. They do make reprints of cards, however they are different. There can be several hundred editions of just one card. They usually change the design or do something to distinguish its edition though. That’s why first editions are usually the most valuable, along with cards that have very limited production, or cards that are one of a kind. Long story short, reprinting a card of a new edition doesn’t affect the value of the same card from older editions noob.

Charlie, a lot of those cards depreciated in value because they were reprinted in this year’s Mega Tins (which released a few weeks ago). Reprints unfortunately sink the value of most cards (not every time, but a lot of the time, especially for “premier” cards that only have 1 printing).

@@zenixrl_ imagine buying a metric shitload worth of cards and then realize they're worthless the next month. Also, considering how much money he spends collecting new cards, I don't think he actually gives a flying fuck about what he gets because he doesn't actually play the TCG.
I feel like selling his cards would not be a fun time for him. For the smaller cards he would have to make them into sets which takes a long time to sort and is very mind numbing. He would have to list the cards on some website, have someone buy the card, and then put the card in an envelope. He will also have to keep track of where he is shipping too so he will need to get different stamps and taxes are different state to state. Selling cards is not some side thing you can do on the side for some extra money you have to commit to them otherwise you will only make a loss. If he decides to sell his more valuable cards (which he wont) he will have a much easier time because he won't have to organize it but he will most likely deal with snobby buyers if the cards lose value later on.

Man I remember being hard in the paint with Yugioh back when i was growing up. Now that I work in a comic book store I know exactly what cards and sets I had prior. I remember having a Kaiba and Yugi Evolution starter decks, a Pegasus starter(my absolute favorite at the time for some reason. I remember I just loved how Relinquished looked..), Dragons Roar and Warriors Triumph structure decks, and I know I had popped open a few or 7 packs from Labyrinth of Nightmare, Enemy of Justice, Cybernetic Revolution and Dark Crisis. Such good times. I still have images of certain cards floating in my head from when I used to play with them. I have a few commons in a baggie from when I was young that I like to recollect on(the ones that survived under my bed essentially. I am not sure where the rest went. I am sure they ended up at the landfill). It is cool seeing this hobby blow up now. I do enjoy chatting with the "new generation" yugioh players at my work. The game has changed incredibly.

Reprinting is bad for collectors but ultimately healthy for the game
But the health of the game gets impacted when the economy of it is thrown into disarray, like imagine tomorrow if they just said they're releasing a set with the 200 most expensive cards, at £1.75 a pack. You cannot tell me that 90% of the big money spenders that make up for most of Konami's profits wouldn't just straight up leave. Even Konami would sink and the game would be over. That is always the worst case scenario that could happen.
That’s not how it works actually. They do make reprints of cards, however they are different. There can be several hundred editions of just one card. They usually change the design or do something to distinguish its edition though. That’s why first editions are usually the most valuable, along with cards that have very limited production, or cards that are one of a kind. Long story short, reprinting a card of a new edition doesn’t affect the value of the same card from older editions noob.

Charlie, a lot of those cards depreciated in value because they were reprinted in this year’s Mega Tins (which released a few weeks ago). Reprints unfortunately sink the value of most cards (not every time, but a lot of the time, especially for “premier” cards that only have 1 printing).
