@@jojostaus6062you can hear her asking a child toward the end of the video if she wants her to fix her hair too so it seems she ask them before doing so.🤷♀️
@jojostaus6062 I get what you are saying, but it's not like she is just doing their hair. She is just fixing the few pieces that are sticking out or making the hair lay even so the hair is the way their grown-up did it that morning.
As a black girl that went to a primarily white school, thank you so much for including her without making a fuss. Teachers never offered me a comb to use as a pick. Nurses never checked me for lice. All I could think as a little girl was, “Why is everyone scared of my hair?”. I’m so happy to see the little things like this. 💗
Is makes me so sad! Im not a teacher but i did work in daycare and was a nanny for years. If i had a child of color in my care, I would be researching everything they needed and i wld make a little bag with all the necessities. And i would learn how to do their hair. No one shld feel inferior because of something they are born with. To be singled out like that...😢 I can only imagine what would go through a childs head while being treated in such a way. And i am truly sorry. They failed you. I've never understood why people go in to work with other human beings. Especially little ones. And are either miserable, mean or just dont have a heart. Why go into education if you are judgmental. Why go into education if you cant care for every child equally!? I just cant wrap my head around it! Again, i am so sorry. I hope you are well!
In my case I’m obviously very white lol but my daughter is native and black. She has very curly black hair. When she got to about 2 and I started doing her hair in different styles I always got asked “how do you know how to do her hair?” And I always answered “just like how I figured out how to care for my own”. I wasn’t given a book. And it always weirded me out how people thought it was sooo divergent or her hair would be crazy hard to take care of lol. Not mad at people being curious but yk
@@kiannachloTHIS. “How can you do their hair?” Because they’re my kid and I’m not gonna have my child neglect their own hair in the future. I learned how to do my hair from scratch so they don’t have to.
White people have a different type of texture of hair that makes it easier for lice to grab onto. That’s likely why nurses don’t check black peoples hair as much or at all for lice. But part of not touching their hair is also people who say that someone who does not have that hair type isn’t capable. A lot of people judge white moms when they try and do their black kid’s/mixed kid’s hair.
I know right! I think that if the school is going to have all grades take pics the same day, they should have the you get ones go first. My daughter hasn't had one good school photo, and she is 14!
Love how you adapted to each student's hair type and hair needs in that moment, instead of just doing the same thing with every child, and also explained to each of them what you were doing and why. Also love how you used these moments as an opportunity to build each of them up and get to know them and connect with each of them individually ❤ you really are a very caring and loving teacher - your students are so blessed to have you 🤗
Thank you so much for doing this. I have very frizzy hair. No matter how much it was put back, brushed and wet down by my mom, it would become frizzy by the time I got to school so you can only imagine picture day 😂
@@dairyfairy8010you should try a curly hair routine! my hair was the same way and i realized it was curly, i just add a moose and gel after the shower and the frizz is so much less
My mom died when I was six years old. I lived primarily with my dad, who had no experience raising a girl. I remember being 7 years old on picture day, coming in with normal, slightly frizzy straight hair. I guess my teacher knew my situation and she took me aside before I took my picture and asked me if I wanted to get my hair braided. I'd never had it braided before, so I said yes. She put my hair into two little dutch braids. Now when I look back on that moment, it makes me smile. She was a young teacher, like you, just trying to make me smile. :))
Honestly, it’s not just the attention to detail and making sure they look good, her taking the time to talk to them 1 on 1 she also made each child FEEL good. I’m sure that is a huge confidence booster before you’re in front of the camera in front of everyone. School picture day always gave me so much anxiety. I think 2 of my yearbooks from highschool I didn’t even get in bc I skipped picture day on purpose.
Not just the words, but the WAY you said "You're so beautiful!" to her...🥺❤ Ma'am, you're not just a teacher. You're a mommy away from home. A trusted friend.
