I grew up in a cult that says it's wrong to celebrate birthdays. My parents wouldn't let me party with my friends and that made me promise to myself that when I became an adult (and moved out of their house) I would celebrate all my birthdays. It seems like such a simple thing, but for me it was a realization that finally I was free.

Happy birthday! My grandmom was so dependent on my grandpa. She doesn't have a drivings licence so now that he died she has to alwayr relay on someone to give her a ride to the store. She went from her fathers house straight to my grandpa and so she was always so dependant. She had to learn to be on her own and she actually found freedom. So weird to think about that. So I always try to do things on my own and not depend. I feel lucky to have a job and my own money. Men can't fully understand the patriachy. I am from a slavic country and it is still bellived that a man earns more money and is more powerful.
I am from France and it was exactly the same for one set of my grandparents. My grand father always refused to travel by plane and forbade her to go without him!!!. Once he died she chose to travel to Israel for her first flight and loved it so much she wanted to fly everywhere!!!! I am so glad she had that opportunity!

The Camus quote is meaningful to me and a constant reminder of finding those breakthrough moments in the midst of tough times. I also agree that recognizing we are mortal doesn’t have to be a dark exercise, but rather one to pull us out of the habitual movements we make within our daily lives, sometimes without taking the time to look up, around us, to watch a bird on a branch without hurrying, and so on. There is a phrase, a famous quote by Bertolt Brecht: "Ja mach nur einen Plan, sei nur ein großes Licht. Und mach dann noch`nen zweiten Plan, gehn tun sie beide nicht."
Meaning: Go ahead and make a plan, and be a shining light, then make a second plan, they both don`t work. haha....
This is what I do: I make plans, just plans. No a or b or c required. The plan is the plan is the plan. ... and if you have to modify the plan and adjust it, it is good that way. There is no right or wrong, just learning curves.

Many years ago I had muted my television to talk with my sister on the phone. The news was on and as I listened to my sister's lengthy monologue, I became more and more anxious at the images that were flashing like gunshots across the screen. I had never realized until that moment the violence I was being subjected to instead of information. If I hadn't had the sound off at that point what I was taking in visually may not have stood out as glaringly as it did. I stopped watching news that day, and I listen to it instead on National Public Radio (and not every day). I've also moved away from cities and into the woods and lakes in a rural US state. I am 64 and dedicated my life to teaching kids with learning disabilities and non-English speakers, but I constantly despaired that the world needed so much help and I always felt I didn't do enough. These days I am kinder to myself, and while I do volunteer with organizations that are meaningful to me and are important, I know that my own sense of peace is as important as anything else now. I cannot save the world, I can only make my small corner of it better. I agree with your mindful fundamentals, and I wish you a belated happy birthday.
Dear Ana, you soothed my pained heart with your wise outlook on life today. When I am sad about my life as it turned out, I tune you in, listen to your simple words and you make me feel better. Being estranged from my adult daughter and her family, now at age 75, I have lots if time to look back at my life. Somehow you help me accept what is. Sometimes the young know better how to live and accept what you are dealt with. Thank you Ana for your knowledge and the way you bring comfort to us.

I always needed what I call "a vision" in life to achieve anything. I need to see what I wanted to do, to have an image of the final result, as a kind of guidance. I guess it could be called also a plan!? And mostly, it worked. I succeed in reaching the goal...but it usually takes a lot more time and is more difficult than first envisioned. Sometimes, having "reached" my objective, I often fail until later to realize that yes, I am there where I dreamed to be. Without of vision, I feel quite lost, without motivation. In February, I will be 66 years old and in this times of Covid, I fell pretty aimless. In this precise time I my life, there are major obstacles to live the way I envisioned "retirement"! It's a new experience for me. I guess I do have to learn something...

True a plan b always helps. I apply it in my professional life, as other decisions do not rely on me. A plan B helps guard my emotions and prevents disappointment. I keep a plan b in my subconscious. it always help.

of the apartment that I rent. I called the Social Security
office and they told me that if I don't receive it by next
Tuesday, that I should call them once again. "Plan B"
is making an appointment and going to pick it up in
person,not a problem because I'm grateful that I have
