The problem with Train sets nowadays is that you can't buy any locomotives or rolling stock separately. All the Train sets with actual trains in them are these HUGE all-in-one sets that are predictably expensive.
All the smaller sets are either just more tracks or side things like the station.
I think this is one of the reasons why Lego Trains haven't been selling well. Most people can't just casually pick up a huge 180€ train set for their nephew's birthday. They'll stick to smaller sets. But for trains, there are no small sets.
Imagine if they sold, for example, a little tank engine on its own, for maybe 30 bucks or so.
And then a single freight car for 20. And a passenger car with a few passengers for, say 30.
Then, if a kid loves trains, they can ask all their relatives to give them one of each for their birthday, and the sets actually sell.
Meanwhile, the adult fans can pick up 3 or 4 freight cars at once if they have a big train collection instead of having to buy the huge set again and selling the unwanted parts online, which a lot of adults don't even wanna bother with, so they would appeal to more casual fans too.
I wish they did this too. Many people want longer trains but don’t want to keep buying the large sets. I know exactly what you mean
@@leggomyjameso6082 Yeah, there used to be a time when Lego sold them separately in 2001. Since then they also never sold small locomotives outside of polybags which don't fit on the tracks.
I've been building some small engine MOCs and they can be so precious and cool. Both adults and kids would love them!
Lego is really leaving a big market untapped.
It is so true. In the 90s they were many small set avaliable to lengthen train like carrier waggon, maintenance waggon, passenger waggon, tank waggon, etc...
Lego should get back to releasing individual locomotives and rolling stock again. But this time, have it be part of the Lego City Train sub theme.

New LEGO City trains seem to release every four years. The current trains 60336 and 60337 were released in 2022. So, I would expect new trains by 2026.

I bought two train stations to combine them to build an actual moc. With a few extra bricks it fits my mid century American vibe of my Lego village cause it’s a small town vibe.
That’s a great idea!! I want to make a nice setup of my city again. I should probably buy another station to do the same. Plus two busses would be great.
@@leggomyjameso6082 when I bring all my old school stuff from storage in NY down to Florida. 9 volt and older sets. Then my town will really vibe.

In the Netherlands (and maybe other European countries) there are actually two cargo trains for sale at the moment. Set 60198 from 2018 is still available.

Personally back when these sets released i wanted the freight train set but earlier this year 2023 i bought the passenger express train set and later the train station as of now

@@leggomyjameso6082 agreed although i did watch a video on another channel that changed the color of the passenger train from green to red and that's what im currently working on with my only passenger train but mainly on the locomotive itself but before 2026 i plan to have at least 2 freight trains and 1 more passenger train
