@@imluckyman10 I might be in the minority with this opinion, but the Boss footswitch is for me the biggest selling point, it's so much easier to activate than those other small round switches most pedal companies use, you can even hit the corner of it if you're wearing clunky boots, aiming for those smaller switches takes too much of my attention away from my playing
@@um3899you’re not, it’s 2023 and every new boss pedal has a fantastic buffer unless it’s a legacy design.
100% agree, my favorite pedal brand too, I'm a bassist, and their bass pedals are awesome. Better than many 'boutique', or hype brands. Total legacy sound quality 🙂

That’s true. It could be that the idea just never occurred to them. Or maybe it’s just taken a while to get it right. Who knows.
They had to release their own version because smaller business like triungulo, past fx and many others did it before succesfully.

Does jammin Boss BP-1W make anyone else really happy?
Boss BP-1W is quickly becoming my favorite pedal. It's just so beautiful and sexy. Practically free and the second you drop her on the board that chill ass mofo gives you a Rich Dark Gushing Robust tone.. And you also get this cute little 1/1 feedback response usually too harmless to be forgotten.
But more than that, the Boss BP-1 is just so positively alluring. It comes on the board like "do you want to cast a spell?" and I'm like "yeah BP-1W i do want to cast a spell let's do this shit" and when she attacks she's like "SPELLS ARE FUN" and I'm like "yeah they are SO FUN." She doesn't say some bullshit macho shit like "I will destroy you" she's just like "nah spells are fun and voodoo spooky.” And she looks so happy. I mean this is an inanimate object that literally brought my guitar to life by magic. It understands it's life is a temporary magical gift and the dude is just fucking loving it. I mean just look at her face she’s just so happy and cute as a button.
I am literally never sad when Boss BP-1W is on board. IDK if she's gonna ever make it into the pedal HOF or not, but for now she a super chill pedal.
Not just for tube amps. I use this with a Roland JC and it sounds great. Crank the gain and it makes a great vintage overdrive.
I let you notice that the musician who's playing here (who's impeccable in his playing BTW) is using a Tokai Love Rock guitar, NOT a Gibson Les Paul... Didi you see that? Did you hear any difference between the T and the G? I didn't and was pleasantly surprised to find out...

If I didn’t buy a ChaseTone Secret Preamp, and RE20 recently I’d consider this!
I guess you could run this in front of your effects, or Boss CE-2W. But yeah looks great! Maybe something I’d consider for a second board, or swap around my ChaseTone. But at $169 it’s one of those do I really need this buys. Im sure the Frusciante fans will love it though! Now we have EP preamps, CE-1, RE201 preamps very easily obtained….so that’s cool.
I love the RE-20, I had one and it got stolen, I recently replaced it and am so happy.
@@scramblesthedeathdealer I wanted one but wasn’t planning on it so soon. But 2 months ago Guitar Center had one second hand by me, hadn’t priced it yet as it just came in. And the guy sold it to me for $150, I wasn’t going to pass that up!
It’s just one of those pedals when you turn on, you hear so many great sounds from records. I put mine in a truebypass loop though for when it’s off. It has that volume knob that can clip. So $30 bypass loop, and keep it on while tapping to the song. Then hit it for when I want it to come in. But it’s become a much used pedal on my board!
The pedal off and volume LED clipper on the RE20 is very misunderstood. When off there is no preamp activated. It’s just the volume and headroom available. Some distortion can clip this for better or worse…mainly clipping a digital DA if you do, not a preamp emulation. But that volume when off was throwing me off as I run front of amp. That’s where my ChaseTone comes in, if I want some analog preamp EP mojo in standalone.

I actually use a Boss PSM-5 Power Supply & Master Switch to put my PW-10 V-Wah in a loop, I can't get it to turn off, so I use the loop to switch it in and out of my signal chain 🤣

Soy amante de los pedales BOSS desde el 2007 ..siempre están sorprendiendome con pedales increíbles...la me90 que sacaron es una locura!! Le faltaba el modo step del phase shifter ph3 y era el pedal mas completo de la historia..
Ojalá saquen una versión para bajo eléctrico (octaver oc3 con modo driver, bass compresor, bass driver preamp(bb-1x), y mejoren un poco más el synthesizer dándole las variantes que tiene el syb5 y auto wah(por que no? También meter una versión del aw3 con tap tempo) incluso tener una salida stereo con 2 canales (dry/ wet como el syb 5 o el ceb3)

i already have a re-20 and a ce-2w in my pedalboard, does this pedal fit with these?
I have an Xotic BB, an Xotic EP Boost, and an EP Boost knockoff called the XP Booster. All three sound amazing.

I personally was hoping for an FB-1X Feedbacker/Booster. The FB-2 goes for a ridiculous amount of money on the secondary market, and the feedbacker part isn't even that good. The Digitech FreqOut is vastly superior, but doesn't have the robust build quality of a BOSS pedal, and doesn't have the secondary function of a booster. While the BP-1w looks nice, I really don't need anything but the "natural" mode.
After seeing/hearing some other demos, I now think this may very well be the best low gain overdrive BOSS has ever made, and will very likely come to be regarded as a modern classic and one of the best pedals in all of BOSS' history.

That’s pretty much what the OC-5 is. I have an OC-2 from 1982 (first year of production), but still use the OC-5 because they are practically identical in sound if you want them to be. Add to that the extra features off the OC-5 and the decision is an easy one.

See, that's where we are different. I did own the OC-5 and absolutely loved the tracking and the sound of the -1 Octave. It's the best pedal out there that does this! But to me something did not feel right with the clean signal. As if there was a teeny tiny bit of latency, compression or something else. I much prefer the direct signal and the 0,1% more fatness and grittiness of my two original OC-2 pedals. I don't care for an octave up or chords at all. I'd rather have an option to trigger 100% wet only for some nice electronic dub bass sounds, which is why one of my pedals is modded. @@vandal_dk
@vandal_dk OC-5 was a miss for me. Not enough volume available on the OC-2 mode. Sounded a bit unpleasant too imo. I went back to my OC-3 and haven't looked back.

The amp is a BOSS NEXTONE SPECIAL, the mics are a Royer 121 and some vintage Neumann mics - That is RAK Studio in London

Does it actually add power or is essentially something that turns your amp up?
Power? No. It makes your signal going into the amp stronger and allows you to add gain along the way. These types of pedals are difficult to capture in videos if you ask me. Yes it's audible but it's something that's *felt* by the player as well. They make much more of a difference than any video will show.

@@NelsonMontana1234 a preamp pedal doesn't necessarily turn up the decibel level of the amp. If you use a clean tone and then have the pedal's volume all the way up you might be able to get a bit of a volume boost over the the clean tone but its not a massive difference. Really what the preamp pedal does is push the input of the amp and the circuits to work harder which helps create more harmonics and more saturation/drive and tone. So like say you have an amp with a gain knob, but you have the knob set at say 5. Clicking on a pedal like a BP-1W would be like cranking the gain knob to 11. Doesn't give you more decibel volume, it just drives the circuit to distort more, again adding more harmonics, more saturation, more tone, more drive, more distortion.

Otherwise this is a pre-amplifying boost with a waza buffer.

It is, but they try to make up for it with a switchable “vintage” buffer I guess that’s going after the CE-1 pedal. I guess if you put this together with a CE-2w you get a full package… but no EQ kind of sucks. Or put it in front a Space Echo pedal for the analog sound…as the pedals are digital representations.
Wish they just sold the full EQ, and focused on the CE1 setup. The RE201 although digital on RE20 and newer version. Is not that desirable to me.
But yeah it would have been cool instead of a vintage buffer circuit, a truebypass option. For those wanting to run it sooner in the chain. But hey if you don’t have and boosts or preamps on your board….doesn’t seem too bad for the 3 sounds, and 2 switchable buffers.

The re-202 gives you access to the preamp if you mess with the settings.
It’s digital though and has a knob to dial it out. So if you want the analog preamp and not the digital on the 202, this would be something to put in front of it to get a more authentic tone. The RE pedals are all digital recreations. Good idea would to put this all analog pedal in front a Boss CE-2W and 202. The RE20 you can’t dial it out, and I’m not sure of the RE2

is this the same preamp emulation that is in the boss re-2? i know they're both based on the roland 201 but is this one any different than the one in the re2? or re202?
Re-2 preamp is digital this is analog
Essentially this pedal is all analog, and not a digital recreation. If you have the more expensive newer re202, you could turn the digital preamp off and run this in front. That’s what I would do! Put before a Boss CE-2W and a RE202 and you have the analog preamp for both. Not sure if you can disable the preamp on the RE2? I haven’t looked at it that much. I know on the RE20 you can’t disable it. So unless you can disable it, you’d be running a analog version of the preamp into a digital…not sure how that would sound.
ok so then this isn't the "same" preamp thats in the re-2/202. honestly i was looking into getting one of those pedals just for the preamp emulation (or mile ends effects version). but if this has the ce-1 built in too thats just bonus and its less expensive. i'm sure someone will do a shootout with the actual re-201 preamp and ce-1 preamp and this pedal sooner or later so i'll prolly wait to hear that but this sure looks perfect for my needs. @@mattg082

@@NamelessSmileyep, and it had a dial to turn it off. So I think this was thought out. I see a lot of comments here where people don’t realize analog/digital situation. But in a way this is the perfect companion piece to put before a Boss CE-2w and any space echo you can turn the digital preamp off. I have an RE20 and it’s baked in…so not sure how that would sound running at the same time.
They made that new all analog delay that can do the space echo and a lot more that’s $450 or so…probably why. Also you can turn the digital preamp of on the 202….so I think it’s also a companion piece for the 202 and the CE-2w as well. It’s weird, but they seem to either stick to all digital or all analog. Probably price points as well they have to hit. Would of made the re202 bigger, and cost more.
