HOMM3 holds a special place in my heart. I was really young when I played the game so I sucked, but I will never forget Paul Anthony Romero’s music for this game.

It's funny, because I played it too. Not a lot, but my mother was friends with another mother. I think I saw her son only three or four times in my life, but he owned Heroes of Might and Magic 3 and lent it to me after I played it at his place. It had dragons and I liked dragons. It was the only game that had dragons.
Stellaris (also known as genocide simulator) is one of my favourite paradox game, it is a really cool game alone but with mods it becomes epic
It's sensory overload. After you stop playing you'll hear the UI sounds everywhere for hours.

And In Memory of Mercedes Romero never fails to make me misty-eyed and is the first thing I think of when I think "touching funeral songs in sci-fi settings." Yes, even more than "Amazing Grace" in Wrath of Khan.

I always thought the reason why the US didn't use the metric system was economical because the Imperial System (IS) of measurements was in place by the time of the Industrial Revolution, and the machinery used in these factories was developed to size in IS units; all of the workers were trained to deal with IS units; and many products were made to feature IS units.

Yeah especially at this point it would just cost way too much money to switch. Not just on an industrial scale but a labor scale. Most of our tools are imperial. That's tens of thousands of dollars of equipment for a lot of businesses if a truly full scale replacement was implemented.

Even better is farming the demons, by killing the familiars and resurecting via the Pit Lords. You just have to mind, that you at least have 47 in the stack for the hitpoints reason, or you get nothing out of it. Just send your familiars between to dragons and draw their friendly fire out, kill the stack by hitting the dragon with Magog ranged attack and then resurrect the familiars as Demons!
You nailed it when you said Heroes 3 is a relaxing game. It is indeed played as one and it's the most fun if you do not treat it too seriously or competitively. Competitive Heroes 3 is... a completely different beast from how all of us remember playing this game. I like watching it from time to time, but I would never imagine myself actually enjoying playing the game like this.
One thing I sorely regret is that it's close to impossible to get Heroes Chronicles to run on modern machines.
Story is, when HoMM3 was new and 3DO wanted to get new players into the PC RTS genre, they came up with long, long story and demo-only versions of the games, following the immortal hero Tarnum, who was barred by the Ancestor Gods from Paradise afterlife for his brutal tyranny and genocide in revenge against the slaver Wizard Kings of Bracaduun, the split of which formed the modern kingdoms of Bracada and Erathia, the mages/Tower faction and the knights/Castle faction respectively.
The version I all but grew up on was the third instalment, Masters of the elements.
I'll rewrite from memory the intro cinematic narration that sets up its premise...
*The Elemental Lords...*
*Masters of Air, Water, Earth and Fire were free at long last, from a ten-thousand year truce.*
*They were coming to rip apart the material plane, to take back from it what they felt was theirs.*
*To fight the elementals of the Confluxes effectively, one would need to be all but imbued with magic... practically having it seeped into their blood.*
*So why would the Ancestor Gods choose a barbarian, who hated magic, to save us all?*

Town portal is also extremely OP. Try playing a game with 1) no logistics, 2) no town portal. Takes forever and excruciating painful.
of that series i have only played heroes 2.
it's like a drug.
i'm currently not playing it.
but when i do get to playing it, it messes up my sleep....i'm gonna have to try 3.
i tried 4 once, and it was awful....but 3 seems similar enough but with more intricacies.....

To take the "Americans don't use the metric system" too seriously for a second: Americans actually DO use the metric system, just for the actually important shit. Stuff like medicine, complex mechanisms like automotive repair and construction, and military measurements all use the metric system in some way fluently.
Everything else not important enough for people outside the country to actually need to know or care about, they use the imperial system.
