Japanese Chins actually originate from China, also. They were brought to Japan by Buddhist monks

I've been trying to rescue a full blooded Pekingese for about 4 years now and can't find any. There aren't any rescue places within 500 miles..I have lots of experience with the breed and don't believe in purchasing a dog when there's so many in need of a home. I'm considering a Japanese Chin now. If anyone can help me I'd TRULY APPRECIATE IT.
I’m not sure if you’re still looking for a dog, but both breeds are wonderful. My moms childhood pet was a Pekingese and she adored her. Meanwhile my childhood pet was a chin and she was like a sister. Truly the best companion I could’ve asked for. She lived to be 17. My whole family adopted 3 chins from the same parents, and they all had different personalities (one energetic, one goofy, one very calm). Ours was very calm and low-maintenance (other than sweeping up tumbleweeds of her fur). She was very “lady like”, and could be a bit standoffish around rambunctious kids and new people. But if you were part of her “pack” she adored you. Ours picked her special person which happened to be my dad, and she would curl up with him and they’d nap together. So from my experience, while they’re not as blindly loving as some other breeds, when they love you they love very deeply. Also, this video says they are on the lower end of intelligence, but I disagree. Our chin was very smart.
Same. I grew up with a pekingese and peke mix and really want to adopt a peke again or a chin. But I can't find any around here. I recently joined Peke and Chin rescue groups on Facebook, which will post ones, but they are always far away from where I am. Like you, I'd rather adopt for various reasons but I just don't know how to do it when they aren't around me :/
I'm in the same boat with the Chins. I randomly acquired one 13 years ago and I've been looking for another ever since. I'm starting to think I might never find another which is a shame because these dogs are amazing.

Need to check your research. The Chin is called Japanese Chin but is originally bred in China also.
