  • I visit the city of Chester for 24 hours with only £50 in a challenge to see what are the top things you can see and do with a limited amount of time and money.
    What tourist attractions, amusements and events can you do and visit? I try to cram as much in as possible in this video.
    I visit some of the main attractions of the city including the Chester city walls, Chester Cathedral, Chester Rows, River Dee, Eastgate Clock, Roman Amphitheatre, Roman Gardens and did I get a chance to visit Chester Zoo? Find out in this video.
    I try out a few local restaurants and cafes too for breakfast, lunch and dinner eating eggs benedict, steak & milkshake and surf & turf pasta.

      If you're in the same area, you could try Parkgate, on the Wirral. Great place for ice cream as people rave about Nicholas Famous Ice Cream, and Parkgate Homemade Ice Cream.

    Crazy. I don't even know your name. You (a) seem to be obsessed with breakfasts. (b) appreciate history, and (c) frequent budget hotels. But you do it in an interesting way.

    Missed a lot out, if you go to Chester Cathedral the refectory is very welcoming, nice food. The new theatre is great, as is the connected library etc. Spend time in Grosvenor park, before or after going on/by the river. Travel lodge host went to is clean bed confortable ( could probably replace kettle) breakfast was good. Like a lot of towns and cities Chester has empty shops and some areas that need attention but overall it really is a good place to visit. Some really good buskers last time I went.

    I've been wanting to ask. Why don't you comment on the water pressure of the shower? If the tv worked correctly? Did the kettle work? Did the room smell? etc. ugh! How about breakfast at the hotels? Do they have free breakfast at some of the places? Why didn't you eat breakfast at the Travelodge? Really important information for visitors to decide where to stay. I am not the type to roll out of bed & have to go on a walk-about for breakfast.

    Hi There
    To be honest that is really a great price for a Hotel on a budget with a double bed and two windows, as some hotels dont even give you a a window at all or even a view plus all the room was rather tidy and you scored with a big desk, so if you ask me i think more hotes should see what is being offered here and iether chanfe there pricing or amendities.

    • @sylviaroberts8103
      @sylviaroberts8103 Před rokem +2

      Exactly! It seems rather slanderous to go round the room scrutinising the bed, shower etc - all nice and clean (he said) and then, finally, to say it wasn’t all that clean - what’s all that about? I thought it was an incredible bargain.

    My only criticism of the videos on this channel is, the host talks like he's on a children's TV channel, here's some steps, let's see where they lead, it's supposed to be for older patrons so you don't need to dumb it down😊

    I lived in Chester for 5 years, it's mostly a shithole to be honest. the walls are nice and the cathedral is gorgeous. The town is full of beautiful and unique Tudor buildings that have all been repurposed to crappy big corporate franchises like Yo Sushi etc, with a VERY small number of them being used by smaller family businesses. It's absolutely full of homeless and that has continued to get worse and worse over the years, the university students are loud, obnoxious and treat the city like it's one giant rubbish bin. The Towers on the wall were closed permanently because of those people.
    You couldn't have picked a worse place to get lunch really, there's some nice little family restaurants that you could've supported and instead you've gone for the local overrated corporate "smokehouse".

    • @SpriteicusOfRS
      @SpriteicusOfRS Před 11 měsíci +5

      Going to start this off by stating that it must have been a while since you were last in Chester, as the YoSushi closed in 2018. While yes, the shops are very typical of a city centre, still (you have your Starbucks, Pret, Costa, etc, as well as the usual middle class clothing places), there are a LOT of shops there, and a lot of food places and cafes which are independent and local. They've recently opened the new Chester market, which is full of small businesses, cafe's and restaurants, and all up and down it seems the council have really been pushing the local to Chester mindset since Covid especially.
      Also, point me to a town that doesn't have homelessness as an issue in the UK, it's rampant all across the country, but Chester especially is not as bad as this gentleman is implying, as a point, I visit Chester very regularly, and I see maybe 4 gentleman from the train station to the city centre, and they're usually the same people. (Personally I find the man playing the puppet drums or the traveling circus acts in the centre far more of an issue)
      Though I do have to agree on Hickorys, while a nice enough place, it really is overpriced for what it is, though at the same time, if you're a tourist I can see the appeal in somewhere like this versus, say, being in a busy food hall or small family cafe.
