I'm fairly new back to cycling after many years. Just bought a brand new Trek Verve 3 hybrid bike and wanted to put on my Brooks B17 saddle. I had no idea how to do it, until I saw your video. After watching it, 5 minutes later my Brooks saddle was on, and I couldn't have done it without it...Subscribed & Tnx very much! 👌
Thank you, Clint. I used to do a ton of riding, but some health issues ( which I am working hard to work on) and long work hours reduced my saddle time. I appreciate the knowledge that you are sharing, and I now know where to go for basic stuff as well as knowing if a bike shop is being a bit sneaky. No offense, but not all bike, dive and computer shops are created equal. You are a live saver.
Thank you for this video! Have had 4 bikes total and had to go to the bike shop every time I needed to replace the saddle for the new bike. I did it on my own for the first time after watching this video ---- Success!!!
Haha that Jacky Chan scene springs to mind when he swings his bike to deck a foe than goes to sit on his bike again but didnt know his saddle dropped off 🤣🤣
Bought a Carrera valour from Halford's I wanted a more comfortable seat the one it comes with is rock hard and gives me saddle sore so bought one off of amazon went out to change it just to realise it's this weird thing, I thought it was going to be the old type with 2 nuts it's the first I've ever seen this type of saddle, I take it there's no way to attach it and I'll have to find a nice size saddle in this configuration, how do I even search for this type of saddle does it have a name?
My saddle was all the way to the front and want to move to the back. It only has 1 bolt. The 2 metal bars of the saddle don"t fit/align with the channel of the bracket. Only 1 fits but not the other. Should I use big pliers and try to bent those 2 metal rods so the get closer to each other and fit inside groves? I am afraid to break saddle. Please advise.
Serrotta used to make a 1-bolt seatpost. It was pure genius. Loosen the 1 bolt, adjust tilt, fore-aft, re-tighten bolt. No idea why it didn't replace the 'standard' seatpost clamps..
I have to replace mine. I have a Trek 820 mountain bike, I have to look again, but I don't think it has a set up like this. Also not even sure what seat to buy
You should just be able to loosen one slightly and tighten the other one the same amount. If the front is too high you would loosen the back a little bit and then tighten the front or vice versa.
My dog chewed up my whole seat and stripped the bolts or maybe the bolts are just old anyway when my sister moved out she left a seat on her bike with two flats so I took the seat off her bike but now I can’t get it to go on mine without it falling all the way down and still being loose
On this type of seat post which has a bolt on the front and back, just loosen the back bolt half a turn and tighten the front bolt half a turn. Keep repeating until it’s at the angle you want.
@@ClintGibbs and what if you can't get it lose? My bike came with the saddle already installed, but I can't for the life of me get the bolt out, so I can't change it or even make any adjustments! It's just stuck. Almost broke my Allen key instead of getting the bolt out.
Rail witdth should be standard amongst all saddles. I've never encountered a saddle with different width rails. If that is the case then you would have to get a seat post to match it.
Regular Allen key. I have the kind that has a rounded end on one side so you can angle it for easier reach. However you can’t use a lot of work on that side.
Should have taken a pic. Reattached mine yesterday and after 18 miles of mtb it fell off. Rode back home 2.5 miles w/o a saddle. I inverted the plates. %$#!
Can you use Vaseline? I don't see how it's any different than any other grease? I imagine you could even use cooking grease like you'd get from cooking bacon or something.
Never tried it but it could work to reduce creaking. However, it’s very thick and can hold onto dirt that comes off your tire. If you use it, just wipe it off really well after installing the saddle.
@mr walkway, Seats are extremely easy to steal (in 10 seconds literally) and cannot be protected with a lock. Some of them are worth a lot of money, like the Brooks seats, so you gotta be careful what kind of seats you use on bikes you park in public. Use expensive seats only on bikes you park at home, for commuter bikes use as cheap as possible while being comfortable enough, I suggest you even put a few scratches and blemishes on it just to avert attention from thieves. They can't sell damaged seats easily.
went to replace mine..jesus..feel like im about to break the tool or seat!!! i can see blue lock-tight on the screws..think ima let the shop do it this time in case something breaks..
No. Get a grease or lube made specifically for bicycles. WD-40 does make bike specific products, but the general WD-40 should only be used on metal to metal contact to solve a creaking noise
My Giant bike saddle doesn’t have any screws or bolts connecting it to the post. I need to replace it because it’s just too uncomfortable. What am I supposed to do?
Clint Gibbs I actually found the bolt. Unfortunately, it seems to be frozen. I took the whole post out and I put it in a freezer in my garage. I hope this will loosen it up. Thank you very much for getting back to me. It’s very much appreciated.
Ummm... so I did a big boo boo. I took all the bolts off and took the thingy off.. I should have googled first. should I just take it to a bike shop? or is there a video on how to put the plate where the rails go on? don't laugh please, I am not mechanical.
You can put everything back together without the saddle on most of the time. Leave the bolts very very loose and work the rails of the saddle onto the plate. Then tighten everything up.
@@ClintGibbs OMG.. So, I watched this 4 times.. Looked at all the hardware and followed your instruction. When you take the original seat off and then find the video that says ‘take a picture first’ 😭.
Still helped 👍
Thanks for the video-helped me install my Selle Royal on my Trek FX2!

Greetings from the bike capital Copenhagen :) This instruction was exactly what I was looking for! Thanks!

Just what I was looking for. Thanks for posting.
Too late. I already removed the bolts and plates because I thought they would be different from the replacement saddle ones 😅
Thank you so much. Just swapped out my hubby's seat for the new one he bought. Couldn't have done it with out ya'! :)

How do you fix the leather seat when it's removed from the metal under that it's fixed on or holds the seat?
thank you - simple to follow the advice, didnt take a pic. BUT it will be easy, to fot it back.
Thanks!
easier than i thought, now i'm gonna have to go and buy the grease
good job
On a trek bike are they Allen key or a torque key
Thanks. I will be changing my saddle.
Don't have a torque wrench, will hand tight + a quarter turn do?
How do you adjust the tilt?
Would of like to have seen how to do the adjustments for tilt, and getting it to what you want. Also, you might have shown degree of tilt.
nice! I have this exact type of seatpost and I was wondering how you'd get it in. thanks.

WTB Silverado would be my recommendation
My bike seat was creaking, but I didn’t know what I could do about it. Now I know!
I have a 2 bolt seat post and can't get my seat level. When I tighten the back screw it shifts my seat too far up. Thoughts?
You should just be able to loosen one slightly and tighten the other one the same amount. If the front is too high you would loosen the back a little bit and then tighten the front or vice versa.
Dont you think applying grease on the saddle rails will attract dirt?
Just make sure you wipe off the excess after it's installed

bikes have seats?
My two bolts are different lengths, do I put the longer bolt in the front or back
👍
Does the Allen wrench come with the bike?
No
How do you get the saddle to tilt forward slightly?
On this type of seat post which has a bolt on the front and back, just loosen the back bolt half a turn and tighten the front bolt half a turn. Keep repeating until it’s at the angle you want.
Any chance I can change the saddle to an entire different type. Like something that doesn’t have 2 bolts as demonstrated?
Yes, Unless it has a very unique design. Any standard saddle should fit on most seat posts
@@ClintGibbs ok thank you
I have a cracked bottom plate would u know where i could buy a new one?
You'll need to go through your local bike shop for that one.
Hi Clint is it possible to apply vaseline instead of grease thanks
I think that would attract too much dirt.
What if you have a single bolt saddle? How do you replace that?
Just loosen it enough to get the rails out of the seat post.

No
What if the new seat has wider rails??
Rail witdth should be standard amongst all saddles. I've never encountered a saddle with different width rails. If that is the case then you would have to get a seat post to match it.
Where can I buy those 2 bolts but in bigger size?
Check with your local bike shop. They should be able to order them in the correct size
Clint Gibbs but what are those parts called?
@@MrGreen-qr5pe saddle clamp bolts, as far as I know
do you have to put GREASE?
A thin coating on the rails will keep it from creaking
No need to grease. Will just attract dirt
So i just need a regular Allen key? Yours looks like it has a different end.

Large
How to remove the BAR under the saddle?
It's built into the saddle and really not designed to be removed on most saddles.

Parked my bike in public, someone for some reason stole my seat and not the bike 😂😂
That same thing happened to me many years ago. Had to ride 8 miles home standing up with a backpack
