I personally think that Perf's low-tech "old-school" method of pen-and-paper presentation is BRILLIANT!
1-He makes the lesson "personalized", you see an actual human being writing down the lesson manually with pen and paper in real-time as the lesson unfolds, rather than some talking head giving a sterile presentation of subject matter using fancy generated graphics.
2-He encourages the student to follow along and take notes of the lesson using pen and paper, instead of just relying on the student to remember by pure memory power alone. He is actively engaging the student by making the lesson an interactive process involving physical ACTIVITY. This forces your brain to internalize the lesson quickly, because you have to focus and pay attention, writing stuff down in real-time, just like how students would do in a live classroom in school.
3-At the end of the lesson, you now have your own personal lesson instruction manual. You will actually be able to understand it easily, since your hands, guided by your brain, made it.
Ngayon... Saan ba ako makabili ng Cattleya na notebook at Reynolds na bolpen? Gusto ko kase authentic na Pilipino guitar lesson hehehe

That makes it easier to do and understand the scales after the 12th fret. Thanks a lot!

Thanks for your efforts! This is a really a concise and easy to understand primer for guitarists. One thing I found personally helpful for internalizing the major scale formula on the fretboard is by simplifying the formula even more. By assuming every step on the fretboard is two (semitone) steps to go up a note by default you only need to remember the B>C and E>F transition exceptions. It may seem trivial (or obvious), but this in effect eliminates the thought process of figuring out where you should apply two steps.

watched a dozen videos on music theory but I had trouble understanding. Drawing it all on paper really helps! The other videos were decent, lots with a million views, but this lesson is by far my favorite and most memorable. I spent a long time in college so writing notes on paper makes it easy for me lol. I will draw the fret diagram and start practicing the notes on my electric guitar. Thank you so much!

im just someone planning on starting guitar, without any knowledge of music or how to play a guitar at all, this made total sence to me. good job on this tutorial because looking at the way a guitar is played is so confusing until now.

Its fun learning music again that I never paid attention to. I like your old school approach, easy way of learning and memorizing the fretboard.

When I was in HS tinatawanan ako ng mga kaklase ako about that. I didn't actually know how to express it kasi wala akong alam sa language na yan (or not aware na gngamit ko na sya). Sobrang self taught ako. Gitara ko lang talaga ang kaibigan ko haha. Kasi I was bullied in streets and learn from those people the basics. Turong kanto ika nga.. There is actually a way para mas mapadali ang pag map nyan. Kung mapapansin nyo Example: letter F - (6th string 1st fret) should be F as well (4th string 3rd fret) [Which is octave as said in the video] .. Realizing this: You do not need to memorize it. Just memorize the patters. The "0" fret is your guide. Find the octaves and you can tell what letter is the one you are trying to play 5mins after mo makuha ung patter basic na un. Good vids sobrang recommended for beginner and intermediate guitarist like me :D Thank you!
