    My Honshu Gladiator D2 sword arrived with a curved central ridge not aligned with the point of the sword, but rather finishing 1cm up from the point in one side of the blade.
    This is typical of the poor quality of United Cutlery products. Unfortunately, I read the reviews too late.

    When slicing and cutting, you need to make a 45 degree angle cut. If you cut at 90 degrees you will not have a good clean cut, and it will not be good for the blade either.

    I don't know if you mentioned in the video where you sword came from on eBay. I too got what I think is a junk sword on eBay. They call it, "The Lord Sword" and it was advertised as D2. So just for a quick D2 fix, I purchased it for less than $100. It's very utilitarian and simple in design, but it did come very sharp. I was able to cut through things very easily with it and aside from a non-rounded handle (the sword is just one piece so it's just a flat tang wrapped in some cheap leather like tape), I thought I had a good purchase. But now it's just a couple months later and my blade is now mostly brown. I'm gonna try to polish it up and keep it functional but I think it's not real D2 also. Mine came from Pakistan. I guess that was a bad sign.

    • @realkingcarrot
      @realkingcarrot  Před 8 měsíci

      "expensive means good" is not necessarily true but when it comes to swords if it's super cheap, the steel probably isn't great. As for your blade turning brown, that's a dead giveaway. D2 isn't that good for swords because it's so rigid, but it's a stainless steel, which doesn't need to be oiled to keep from rusting.

    • @andyappleton3353
      @andyappleton3353 Před 8 měsíci +1

      Thanks for the reply. Since I posted that message, I've done a little more "scientific" research on, "The Lord Sword." I took an old absolute POS, medieval-style machete that my dad owned in the 1980s and put them to the test blade for blade. Maybe not a smart idea but it's what I did. Well, long story short, I was able to cut ridges and even small chunks out of the lord sword with a total piece of garbage, wall hanger, imitation machete. One strike into the lord sword bit so deep that I was able to lift the lord sword around with the machete edge and swing it around without it coming off. I don't have a means to determine if it's D2 but I guess my "less than genuinely scientific" study achieved it's purpose. Glad you liked your D2 Honshu blade though. I have some Honshu products and sword-snobs like to belittle the brand but I think they're decent for the price point. Are you still happy with that blade? @@realkingcarrot

    • @realkingcarrot
      @realkingcarrot  Před 8 měsíci

      I'm still happy with it. You can check out my latest video where I used it to clear an overgrown garden and play fruit ninja with some gourds. I think wall hanger swords are made of stainless, that's why they're "wall hangers" so you don't have to maintain it and it can just be decorative piece, while swords made for combat use spring steel so they don't break. So a stainless blade would be more likely to break, but a spring steel blade would probably chip if you tried to cut into it with stainless. That's just a guess though.

      Facts. All us amateur sword geeks will debate the quality and practicality of steels forevermore LOL. 5160 Spring steel (used by Zombie Tools--I have the Apokatana) is often considered a gold standard but your hardcore carbon katana guys will argue that and it will never end. that should be a tough blade and D2 is better the Stainless Steel for a blade over 12"

    • @realkingcarrot
      @realkingcarrot  Před rokem +1

      D2 isn't generally better because it's so rigid but I thought it made sense for the Gladius because it's meant to chop and stab rather than cut and thrust like medieval swords that were made of spring steel. When I get a custom piece it will probably be authentic Damascus.
