I'm heavily considering getting the Legion Go because I'm 0-2 on the Ally. I've bought 2 and both have been broken out of the box (Left joystick only goes up and down). VRR is the main reason holding me back from jumping on the Legion Go. Both are gorgeous in their own way. This comparison didn't help me at all, actually made the decision harder! I'm a screen resolution snob, and a lot of the games I'll play will look soooo good on the Legion at max resolution.. Holocure, Art of Rally, Death Must Die, etc... Also, the joystick quality of the Legion surpasses the Ally, which has been my issue and given me PTSD on getting a 3rd... but ya know what they say, 3rd time's a charm......
Glad your channel popped up in the algorithm.

Thanks man! that's really unfortunate to hear about your issues with Ally. the games you mentioned are Indie games that should perform great on both theses devices as they don't look demanding. So in that case the Legion Go should be able to handle them. You can always buy the device and try it out and if you don't like it just return it. Hope this helps and happy gaming!

Dudeeeeee, im 0-3 on the Ally. Haha Dirty screen out the box, then X button was stuck out the box, and finally the charging port overheated and burnt out the device.
I have a Legion Go now. I craved my Ally for the first week, i miss the speakers, size and lush bursts of colour on the Ally. I got the Legion Go all set up eventually and i have now fallen in love with it. I came close to sending it back because of issues that made the device seem broke. I stuck with it, fixed the issues and now its brilliant.
Both devices are epic. That's a fact. I will stick with Legion Go for a year, and get the Ally 2 whenever they make that haha.

Other than that using a keyboard is the best way because you can restart the fps recording and do other things a lot easier. Hope this helps!

I got the LeGo to run games at 1050p. Looks good and runs smoother but a bit laggy than ally. Then there is the speakers and fan noise. The fan noise is higher than the speakers at 100% lol. I'm returning my LeGo soon. I ran into a problem and can't reinstall windows 11 not even with a usb c stick. Well, I just placed an order for the Legion Go after seeing them in your hands, side by side. The screen size difference was rather incredible, and offering higher res and refresh rate on top of that? Yes please!
Also, 512GB storage is this age of gaming is like trying to feed a family of four a meal subsisting of 2-3 value menu items. 1TB was my bare minimum, I was already looking at spending extra to upgrade if I went with the Ally. 1TB is at least like a basic $5 sandwich for each family member lol, to keep that analogy. I have 11TB of storage on my desktop for games (3TB being NVME) and I'm still eyeing more NVME drives with how big games are getting (and just how many old ones I have lol).
The detachable controllers is another huge thing. My sister has 5 kids and having enough controllers for them on my Switch was a PITA. I already have 2x Xbox One controllers and an Xbox Series controller, so this will make a 4th that I can use while the system is docked to a TV for group play. And one of the "Joycons" functioning as a mouse is great.
I'm most apprehensive about the "OS" software... as a long time desktop user I'd much rather just use it as a plain Windows device and launch Steam and Epic like I do on my desktop and run games from there. To which point the built in track pad also seems nice.
I'm also apprehensive about the thumbsticks. You mentioned they were small, but at least they're Hall Effect, but another review said something about the dead zone being too big, though with the right software that should be adjustable.

the legion go and the ally are within the margin of error 4-5fps sometimes the ally comes out on top and other the legion go does which shows its a margin of error but the performance is pretty much the same the ally is better because its quieter, cooler, light weight has VRR which makes it look much smoother less laggy and can be used as an actual portable handheld be comfortable the only issue is the battery but that's on both and unfortunately a windows issue

My only problem which I noticed last night when I was gaming in bed all day, is that sometimes you want to move to your side. With the switch, all you do, is takeoff the controllers and set the tablet on its side and then you can have the controllers to your side or under the covers while you game. I can’t do that on the Ally. I probably could with the Legion go though. For me going handheld wouldn’t be worth it if I don’t have the versatility. However, the Ally just looks so official and it looks so good physically I think.

The screen is too good to ever switch back to a smaller one, the kickstand is solid as a tree, the size of the device feels good in my giant hands, and the performance has been pretty surprising. Prop the Go up and use a 8bitdo sn30 controller and you will be in retro emulation heaven lol it just naturally without much fight took over as my main handheld for everything.

The VRR argument is so dumb. It’s real but not so much when you’re closer to 60fps than not. If you need VRR to enjoy the game, then you’re better off on PC/Console. What’s the point of CP2077 “looking nice” on the Ally’s tiny screen. It’s either 60fps on the handheld or just use my PC. One other thing is GeForce Now. If you care about frames so much and you don’t have a PC, GFN looks astonishingly good on the Legion Go. The two machines shouldn’t be compared and even if they are the Go is way more versatile. Steam Deck OLED is way better than the Ally’s experience. Before you load your double barrel shotguns I own all 3

Asus ROG Ally? 🤔 I've been thinking about it aince its better than steam. But... I hear the SSD gets fried and if I buy a $100 SSD I don't want it to get totaled. I would rather prefer an AYN Loki Max Only if it had a 7840u instead. No new news from AYN for new devices. I mostly want a device where I can either play Emudeck/ Retroarch and Batocera. However, I want one where I can play steam, Xbox, or PS5 AAA games and online mmorpgs with my cousins. And most of the time I hear issues of battery too. The Ayaneo Chan (Kun) is better, but the 8 axis D pad doesn't work well with the Contra tests and I hear Ayaneo gets sloppy and sends out broken or faulty devices. They also don't like to give refunds. And if people pay for a device like a phone or similar; people expect it to work without problems. And the company makes the customers happy by fixing or giving a new device at little or no charge (T-Mobile etc.). I hear the MSI claw is going to be released however... Intel chip sets are a little older and eventually with the updates from game companies computers will fail. I do like the concept lights and all (big attraction) but I also want triggers and sticks to be hall sensors. If people were in my mind boggling spin, what would they do? Do I keep waiting? AYN has the best emulation, however due to the 6800u It can't play newer games that will eventually come out. 😵 So confusing.

Just to point out a few things, the Rog Ally apu tends to run up to 10 deg hotter than the legion go. As for the speakers, they both sound pretty bad lol, just one is louder than the other. In reality, at least for me, some form of earphones/headsets would be used anyway. It's like having speakers in a TV, not many people use them. You can use a 2230 SSD on the Legion Go, but you will need an adaptor for it to fit. It does add an extra point of failure, but for a $10 adaptor, its worth it. But for me, the Legion Go screen and removable controllers is what wins it for me in the end. It does make a much better experience over the Ally, in my opinion

I mean you are obviously going to be running games in that vrr sweet spot the more demanding they are so to me it is kind of a no brainer. I like the go's screen better but without vrr and imo 1200p is just too much for the 7840u aka z1 to handle unless you play mostly indie or older games, downscaling on these screens are a bit like monitors, they do not have the upscaling that tvs have to allow for non native resolutions to look really good. The ally being a smaller screen does help, but 720p isn't great on it...900p is ok with RIS.
