- Hi !
Since the very beginning, rare mobs have been a part of Azeroth, and while they have generally largely followed the same pattern throughout the games history, there were some concepts that did not last past the vanilla version of the game.
In this video, we will take a look at how rares used to work back in the games first few years - and to some extend, Classic too!
I hope you learned something from this video, and thank you for watching :)

A friend camped Broken Tooth. What a pain. Took her days upon days. At the same time I was happy my pet didn't run off, because I forgot to feed it. As a noob I was the worst hunter possible.
Edit: In my defense, I started WoW later than my friends and it was my first online game ever. I just needed some time to learn and adapt^^
TBC has the rarest of all rares. I been playing since 2004, and i've seen pretty much every rare vanilla has, and wotlk and onwards... But there are rares from TBC i've never seen once.
Sometimes i think that maybe these "rares" that wowhead and some addons say that exist, may not realy exist at all, or maybe bugged and has never spawned. Some rares of TBC i've only seen once... Like that rare worm in Hellfire Peninsula... I saw it day 1 of TBC, it killed me, and i've never seen it again ever since...
I went through the whole of Outland on both my hunter and deathknight in Wotlk classic without meeting a single rare, so i can imagine that!
Were you walking over the shaking rocks to see if it spawned? This rare used to have unique dark red shaking rocks, which I believe was bugged and then fixed.
@@joaocaju3061 Yes. In fact the one time i saw him, i went back almost right away and it was gone. Later i tried finding it many times. The circle of rumbling rocks was also bigger then the other worms, so every time i saw 1 that seemed bigger i'd check.
I also camped other rares, just because i was obsesed with the fact i've never seen them, like the one in the pools of Aggonar. there's suppoused to exist a rare there, but i've quested and spent so many hours in that site hoping to see him with no luck.
Its possible that rares in remakes of TBC are harder to spot.
I heard that when a new layer is created, it starts the rare spawn timer, so unless a layer is around for ex 36 hours, some rares never spawn.
your memory is not perfect. I'v elearned this. Being one of the smartest wow player around, don,t rely on memoryu.
Love your videos, I've been watching them every once in a while over the last few weeks.
Thanks a lot, there will be more!
Anyone who *kills* Loque'nahak instead of letting a hunter tame him is a monster. I only found him on my hunter in Wrath because I logged on on Christmas Day! He's in my stable to this day -- my Xmas gift from Blizz ^^
My favourite Classic rare is Death Flayer. This black and red level 11 scorpid in Durotar doesn't look much different from the Corrupted Scorpids found in the same zone, but when tamed, he already knows Claw 2 and Scorpid Poison 1, and his attack speed is higher than any other scorpid at 1.6, almost as fast as a cat. He's an awesome first pet for Horde players!
I was leveling my hunter alt in scholazar when some guy whispered me about him saying i should come tame this rare beast and I was sceptical at first because I didnt know how rare it was. and i went over there and tamed him without realizing how rare he is. still have him today all these years later.
(laughs in killing Loqeu'nahak as a Hunter)
Anytime I see a rare hunter pet I will go out of my way to kill it. Hunters should play a real class.
@@mattieonutube273 do you work for Blizzard? Since you seem to be against anyone having *fun* with the *game*.
@@violetlight1548 How can anyone besides a 10 year old have fun playing a hunter?
keep it up man, awesome video as always
Yeah definitely remember camping for broken tooth, took me a few days and then I got it after waiting hours in that desert.
Pet normalization made hunter pet way less intresting and unique.

another superb video, you dont miss!!!!!
Brilliant as usual, thank you.
woop woop another video!
Damage regardless of atk speed has always been normalized on pet classes. Meaning all cats deal the same dmg. Only time a pet could deal more dmg due to atk speed was if they had some kind of proc mechanic which was possible on bm hunters.. but no1 raided as bm.
The strongest pet was actually king bangalash. He had a passive that was retained after taming. So he delt slightly more dmg than any other cat baseline.
The overall best pet for pvp and my personal favourite, even though it doesnt look like much, is the carrion bird named spite flayer from blasted lands.
This bird has the regular wolf/carrionbird stats, but it has 1.2 atk speed and the screech spell.
These birds are insanely strong in PvP and pve since you can spend more points into resistances instead of health and armor because their armor scaling is already good. PLUS this bird can learn both claw and bite. Generally if you go PvP, claw is better but in pvp it might even be bite. Regardless.. one of the best pets in the game that most have never heard of
Interesting that they kept the Wildhammer faction, but removed the Revantusk Tribe faction for the Horde. The NPCs still exist and are friendly to the Horde, but I'm certain in early Vanilla they had their own faction and you could farm rep with them.
When we were running Deadmines the add on said a rare spawn was nearby when approaching van cleef
So in TBC they changed the icon of rare elite to a silver winged dragon? Interesting...
In my memory rare elite is more like a vanila thing. Most of them appear in vanilla high level zones. I can hardly remember many notable rare elites they added in the later expansion. By design, regular elites should be easily soloable but rare elites are not. Blizzard has always been trying to make the overworld content as soloable as possible.
bydesign elite no soloable. you say bullshit and nonsense.
I kinda forgot rares were a thing
Also looking at the end of the video, let's take a moment to appreciate the madness of the Defias ship at the end of the Deadmines. There is no way that would be seaworthy, lol. xD I'm beginning to think that Stormwind were right not to pay the stonemasons, if all their craft are as shoddy as that!
you no sailor i can tell. do not judge when you idiot
(laughs in Hunter with Son of Hakkar) Yea...I'll take my Wind Serpent with lightning breath rank 6 thanks.
