Huge Cruise Ship passes through Tower Bridge, London - 24/8/2019

- During a recent visit to London, we were lucky enough to witness a really quite large cruise ship, the Silver Wind, passing through the raised bridge decks of the world famous Tower Bridge.
Some sequences have been speeded up slightly to minimise boredom! This process meant that titling and transitions were mostly unavailable in the editing.
Recorded on 24th August 2019.
London is very beautiful and my favourite.

I was on the bridge waiting to cross and saw it up close. Was cool to see and wave to the people on deck. Thanks for uploading, was great to see this in recommendations, brings back nice memories of the day.

I well remember travelling through Tower Bridge on the Eagle paddle steamers to Southend when I was a child. Also, the Waverley in more recent times.

Great video. An unusually large ship that far up the river. All the times I've been across, and sailed under that bridge, I've never seen it open.

And even more spectacular is when the tugs manoeuvres the ship in a 3 point turn just downriver between Wapping and Rotherhithe so the bow is facing seaward - have seen it many times from our apartment in Wapping - never fails to impress

It's amazing that they allowed that huge vessel to pass that far up the Thames. Presumably it turned straight back round again? .
Yes. Ships that size can go no further. The next bridge is London Bridge which cannot be passed ..... Andy

Yes you must use the Belfast to board the cruise ship.

Been there, done that! We sailed from Tower Bridge to Iceland. The ship turns around just past the tide control gates and continues down the Thames facing in the right direction.

@@theabsolutelygoldenboyofas9812 The bridge was built in 1894 during the reign of Queen Victoria. I'm not aware of anybody being killed for opposing Queen Victoria (some will have been killed for committing acts of violence during her reign).
I'm pretty sure that nobody was killed on this bridge for any reason!
It's possible a worker may have accidentally died during its construction I suppose but ghosts don't exist so no need to worry :-))

a few of these liners have a problem at sea so the easy way to fix it is they let them up the thames to dock at hms belfast fix the problem then return to sea

This one is being backed out of the Thames by two tug boats. The highest it could go into the city was just left of where I'm videoing from - alongside the HMS Belfast (if you know that one) ..... Andy
I've just realised what you were asking. I honestly don't know the answer. The Thames becomes very wide but not for some distance. Certainly well beyond Greenwich ...... Andy

I beg to differ the description “huge cruise ship “ really just isn’t, Irish ferries have bigger roll on roll off ships than this very tiny cruise ship in comparison to proper huge cruise ships , a huge cruise ship wouldn’t even have the depth clearance in the Thames

At least this one worked but looks tight! 😓.....authorities need to be careful to make sure this doesn't happen too often otherwise it could end up like Venice where cruise ships were damaging the place and locals actively protested!
