Great video man. All the little things you kept pointing out really makes this one better than all the others I’ve found so far. Keep at it you got what it takes!
Great video man!! Thanks for sharing all your pro tips!!
Some damn good work, wish every place was like you
For sure. It’s hard to find a good place that do it correctly and not rush it. I’m a detailer and I see bad ppf that aren’t done right that comes to the shop
Awesome work.
Great video! Very detailed and informative. Is it normal to have water bubbles and then have it self heal? Or it just depends on the installer?
It’s normal! Happens to everyone. The longer you’re in it the less and less it happens
👏BRAVO
Great video and I appreciate you taking time to answer questions even months after putting it out.
I'm going to be putting PPF on a front bumper lip. Do you think it's better to do it with or without the lip installed? I figured without, but from your video it seems like it's easier to get good leverage if the lip is fixed into place.
Hey great video. I've been doing ppf for about 8months to a year. Not everyday but it's alot, I seen that you use tack but then lift the ppf to adjust to make the fingers go down by pushing them at an angle. Question does that show lift lines. Because I'm having problems with glue lines showing up. Ugh btw I only had 3days or training and pretty much learning on my own
Thanks for watching! If you work quick, you won’t have to worry about lift lines. Lift lines only become a problem for me when I’m lifting some film that’s been down for sometime. Hope this helps
If you squeegee over the tack, you have only a few mins to lift it. If you have just sprayed but haven't squeegeed over, you will be fine for longer. I use 20% tack solution.
I just got a 2021 hyundai elantra, i looked on expl's site and they don't offer a pre cut kit yet for the new body style. I see you can order by the length and width. I'm looking to do front bumper and mirrors. Any help on measurements on how I should order. Also cutting to fit is a little sketchy I assume.
Hey! I personally would wait until the patterns are available before attempting to do the installation.
Very nice explanation, I’m learning to install ppf but I’m having a hard time to find where to buy the blueprints so I can plot the ppf before installing.
Now it takes a lot of time to ‘CutContour’ the whole thing.
Any ideas? Website? Software?
Thanks a lot and keep up the good work!!
Personally, I’d reach out to XPEL or Suntek and see if you could become an installer of theirs and get access to their cut software
@@DriveProtected thanks very much for your answer, I just reached XPEL to get access to the template repository 🥳
I have a kia stinger and have a precut ppf. Where do you think is the best spot to first tack on the bumper area?
Is the film custom cut by the computer to fit the specific make and model? Thanks
Hey Thomas, yes. All film is custom cut to fit each vehicle individually. Shoot me an email at eric@reflectionautomotive.ca and we can find you what you need!
When you unroll your pattern like that without spraying the actual film at all, is there a chance it could leave glue lines? So as long as the panel is completely sprayed down, and even tho your films adhesive is dry, and after you unroll it then just lift it up and spray everything down and proceed with the install and it won't leave any glue lines? I'm just curious because usually I take my pattern off my peel board and spray it down before installing. I've never tried reverse unrolling it like that so I was curious about potential glue lines. Thanks.
I never get glue lines cause I don’t stick it to the panel for very long or stick it down hard or anything like that. If I left it for an hour or so, you’d definitely get lines left behind.
should you use a slip solution and a tack solution when applying it? and what do they do?
Absolutely! Your slip solution will help glide the film around and the tack solution will help lock the film in place.
@@DriveProtected what's the tack solution consist of just water and alcohol?
So I'm guessing like normal decal solution wouldn't be what to use installing xpel?
Do they make pre-cut clear wrap for the new 2022 Ford Explorer ST...? Where would I get it?
Thanks for this. Is that alcohol you're using? Soapy water then alcohol spray? Thanks again.
@@DriveProtected brilliant. Thank you. I'm going to PPF piano black my bmw. It's just so expensive.
@@DriveProtected Thanks again. Once you squeegee the water out, does the ISP act as the adhesive?
do you guys have Land Cruiser over there, I'm in Australia an ive been PPFing for about a month and I have yet to be able to do a bumper without fingers, gives me the shits and i meant big fingers
When you tried this the first time on a vehicle, did it come out as good as this truck did? I did my truck today...not so great but not horrific. A few fingers and some bubbles got trapped. 😐
No, definitely not! My first bumper wasn’t that great. At that time I didn’t know anything about how much you can stretch the film, how to properly post heat to prevent fingers popping up etc.
@@DriveProtected Yea. I hear you. Things were tacking on me too soon, then other areas wouldn't tack. Black bumper on '21 F150, not precut. I guess at least it will protect the paint.
When you notice the film tacking too soon, you need to be using more slip solution. Once you’ve got more slip, things will work much better. What brand film did you use?
Haii bro video staring ur using spray ( baby shamboo r isoprophal achol)???
We use our baby shampoo for the slip solution and our isopropyl alcohol solution for our tack.
What kind of solution are you spraying into the film? (Baby shampoo and water?)
What’s your slip solution? And what’s your tack solution?
Fusion all type slip solution and isopropyl alcohol mixed 70% water and 30% iso for tack solution
What solutions do you use and what is the mix ratio for the solutions? Thanks
Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo for slip solution and isopropyl alcohol for tack solution. Mixture ratio is all dependant on temperature and humidity.
This sounds like a crazy question, but what are you spraying on the car?
Slip solution so we can glide the film into place and a tack solution so we can tack the film in place.
The slip solution is check out www.fusion tint tools.com and look for Fusion All Type, slip solution. The tack solution is a mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water. The ratio I use is 70% water to 30% isopropyl alcohol.
@@DriveProtected ok, so as I understand, you spray the slip solution under the film to maneuver it, then when in place, lift up and spray the tack/aka alcohol solution under?
Does Fusion also make tack solution or what do you recommend?
Not too sure, Ive always used a 70% water to 30% isopropyl alcohol ratio.
@@DriveProtected can you dilute 70% isopropyl alcohol to a 70/30 ratio? And for flatter jobs like behind wheels do you need to use tack? Thanks man.. you make it look easy and it certainly is not haha 👍
Yes, that tack ratio will work. Also yes, use tack wherever you can for a better bond between the PPF and the film.
nice!
@@DriveProtected How do you clean XPEL surfaces? Do you use quick detailers?
For cleaning the top of the film, quick detailers are a good product to use!
For the edges, do always need the heat gun?
It’s highly recommended. It’s an extra form of insurance to ensure the film isn’t going to lift up.
Slip solution for gliding the film into place. Tack solution for locking the film into place.
@@DriveProtected thank u so much. I just got my xpel pre-cut for my Ram 1500. Let’s see how I do.
Good luck! If you have any questions, let me know. eric@reflectionautomotive.ca
I still get fingers on the top corner on lower bumper and I hate that.
Fingers will come from not stretching the film to the end of the bumper. Any time you have fingers you have too much film in that area and that film needs to be evenly distributed out
What do you use for tac solution?
@@DriveProtected will give it a shot. We were doing 50/50 abd it just want working well so we tried using straight water to flush out soap suds and that has been the best we tried so far
When you have the alcohol mixture too strong, you end up burning the adhesive under the film. I wouldn’t go anymore than 30% alcohol on a tack solution.
Where do I get precut patterns
Yes. However, if you have a different vehicle and want PPF, email us at info@driveprotected.shop and we will get you a price.
The margins on installing PPF is unreal. Have to do it yourself.
Step 1. Hire a professional
You’ll go through at least 3 rolls of film before you know what you’re doing lol
Thank you for the very slow, detailed installation tutorial. This has given me slightly more confidence trying this out myself. I cannot pay 6-7k to have someone do it for me. So I’m going to give it a go.
Thank you for the kind words!! Please email me at eric@reflectionautomotive.ca if you need any more help!
