Yeah seriously, X-Men '97 seemed like the final straw to seal this deal. EVERYONE was talking about how those designs were a big part of the Capcom VS games, and that clearly got Capcom off their asses to go "YEAH WE NEED TO RENEW THIS. NOT JUST MVC 2, *ALL OF THEM.* EVEN THE PUNISHER GAME WE FORGOT FOR THE BEAT-EM-UP COLLECTION, THROW THAT IN THERE. "

For those who don't know, Punisher was one of the earliest collabs with Capcom and Marvel. Thanks to its success, its showed that Marvel could leave Capcom in the capable hands with launching other hit titles such as X-Men children of the atom, a couple of super Nintendo ports and of course Marvel superheroes! The rest as they say, is history!❤💪
There are also those great snes games like X-Men Mutant Apocalypse. Capcom became the best Japanese company handling the franchise and excelling in different systems and different genres in the 90s.
Also that makes me remember one old topic: the only thing that disappointed me about the return of Capcom working with Marvel in the 2010s, starting with MvC3, is that Capcom was already fully locked in the MvC franchise. Like, the company didnt use that opportunity to make games in different genres. Things like maybe a 3d successor of Mutant Apocalypse using the DMC gameplay, many different chars, unique story events with each one, etc. They still had the freedom to use the Xmen by that time, before MvCI.
Capcom has always had a good track record handling others IP's. They did alot of Disney games back in the 80s & 90s.

@@Fishman465 The show had a whole filler episode as one big reference to the original beat-em-up arcade game, I wouldn't be surprised if it borrowed some notes from Capcom's sprites considering that very show was the exact art style they used for the X-Men themselves.
This collection brought that whole reference full circle.
Marvel coming back is very likely because Disney got X-Men back, freeing the IP for their promos, with X-Men 97 leading the charge, now Marvel games are able to return with all the X-Men

I already bought the Capcom Fighting Collection from last year with all the Dark Stalker games on it. It definitely was worth it too. Spent over 100 hours playing it. Looks like Im building on the collection. I'm definitely buying this and CVS collection whenever it's announced too.

True, but I still advise mild expectations. Because this is just the return of masterpieces made long ago. A very different thing is what to think about a modern game. Like, it's still uncertain if they still are forcing the use of the cinematic universe elements, like in the time of MvCI.

I am absolutely terrible at fighting games. But as terrible as i am.. man MvC2 will always have that special place in my heart. On vacations growing up my dad, my brother and myself would always head to the little arcade room at the hotel we'd always stay at, head straight to the MvC2 cabinet in there and play for what seemed like hours at a time. So happy for the MvC community. one of the video game GOATs is finally free!
Even though everyone's focused on MvC2 for obvious reasons. I appreciate that they've bundled in the first game as well. Huge win for game preservation.

Growing up in the late 90s this is soo nostalgic, brings back such an amazing feeling of great times walking home with friends from school and stopping by the nearby liquor store/pizzeria/ 7-11, gas station who had cabinets to play MvC series with friends before we had to rush home lol
