- It's been a very long exhausting month. Referring to us having to watch every Fantastic Four movie for Caravan Of Garbage leading us to the 20th Century Fox 2015 flop. Directed by Josh Trank (sort of) the production was plagued with troubles including fist fights on set, dogs destroying a home, costly re-shoots, studio interference and one of the worst and distracting wigs in cinematic history. I can't remember if Ben and Sue ever spoke or even made eye contact in the movie. What a great movie about a team.
They had so little contact in the movie that the actors fell in love and got married for real.
Ben barely had any interactions with anyone other then Reed. Reed literally had to drag him in the plot drunk off his ass to be a part of the shuttle dimension thing despite the fact he had no involvement in it and most likely doesn't know the science behind it. They didn't even invite Sue the one who actually help build the damn thing.
They were gonna but they scrapped it for some reason.

Kid in my high school’s brother played kid Reed and Josh Trank sent him a really ranty weird dm apologizing for how bad the movie was and how it might affect his career or whatever. I imagine he did the same for the rest of the cast. I’m glad he’s chilled out it’s better for his health

Funny that this would be the second time the MCU hired an actor who played the Human Torch. Marvel seems obsessed in saving human torches.
The guy who played him in the unreleased 90s one is still waiting anxiously for his phone to ring.
Marvel doesn't want their careers to go down in flames. (I know what I did and that I did it 10 months late.)

I wouldn't really say that Michael starred in the MCU... he had a supporting, possibly even co-starring, role in one single movie in the wider MCU. Whereas Chris did star in the MCU as a whole. I guess it's better put that they both played the human torch and then they both played another major character role from Marvel comics afterwards.

The funny thing about this that it forgets the core element of the Fantastic Four..... Family. Also fun. Also making it watchable.
I went to the press screening of this & you could actually feel the anger in the air as people left the building when it ended
What was the atmosphere like? What were your emotions immediately after the movie ended?
This movie feels to me like two and a half acts of a first act, then suddenly the climax.
This Movie has a second act of about 1minute 15 seconds in that amount of time they dump all the things a second act generally does. This movie in my opinion is the worst superhero movie , because say what you will about other bad superhero movies the bad ones failure leaves an impact. This is dull and lifeless and it takes itself way too seriously like Why? It's the Fantastic four you can't take them seriously but you can give then family dynamics like the comic. On that they are embarrassed that it's source material is a comic they never refer to themselves as the comic names and do not call themselves the Fantastic four, hell even Joker had the line "when you bring me out can you introduce me as Joker" as they were not ashamed of the movie having a comic book as their source material.
It's cool that James was a teacher. I currently teach at a high school, and I also can't stand the "Asshole teacher" trope. Especially if they are mean to a kid who's actually trying, because even the meanest teachers usually love it when students put in effort.
I had the asshole teacher trope at my first high school, The teacher wanted me in a special ed class for my best subject.

I want to add my two notes - when The Rock... I mean The Thing rips off and throws a tank turret at soldiers (when they are showcasing a montage of his fights, the whole 43 confirmed kills scene), the turret, a giant piece of metal, explodes into a fireball and basically vaporizes.
And second note, the green goo in the Zero dimension in the first trailer is actually red.
I was anticipating this film so much when it was coming out
Watching this is like staring into a weird alternate dimension where all the worst superhero movie trend-chasing happened all at once. It's got the grimdark tone when it doesn't work, it's got the stupid explanations for things that don't need 'em, it's embarrassed about what it is and it doesn't understand the soul of what it's adapting.
Fun fact: It did so badly it neutralized X-Men: Days of Future Past's profits.
You forget one thing: Omnius beam to the sky!
Also the short runtime.
Another fun fact is that Fox believed more in DoFP and FF than Deadpool, but got cold feet with F4 at the start of the year and publicity was delayed because of it. Also it pretty much killed the career of everyone in the cast

Doctor Doom has one of the most compelling origins and motivations in the entire Marvel universe, as well as a great and iconic design.

Also when Reed escapes, briefly in the garage you can see he's trying to build another portal but it is never acknowledged or brought up.
Because those scenes were cut out, Hell even the hallway fight was originally a 20 minute sequence that was cut down to 5 in the editing bay lol.
I know it’s a big joke now, but I can’t believe you didn’t mention how Ben’s older brother used to beat him up and say, “It’s clobbering time!” That was the weirdest decision in my book
The best pure Fantastic 4 adaptation is Fantastic 4: World's Greatest Heroes, when it aired on Toonami, it was rather inconsistent, but I always tried to watch it, now it's on Disney+, now everyone can witness this underated gem.
It's not on England's Disney+ (yet...) and I was so bloody gutted because I really wanted to watch it

It's a horrid idea to choose Fantastic Four. I mean, it doesn't matter how "horror" this film tries to be. The moment Reed Richards is playing stretchy man the tone is totally lost. I can see what Josh Trank was doing, but he was 100% working on the wrong series/movie/superhero characters. As an original, the film he wanted to make could've been like "dark knight meets incredibles" but instead we got the actually 2nd ash-can copy they just did to keep the rights.

I worked at the theater when this movie came out and my coworkers watched it for free and one of them said, “I still wanted a refund. I can’t believe I wasted my time watching that.”
I remember seeing this in theaters when it came out; friend of mine had a few free passes because he worked at the local cinema and we all went to see it for some laughs. One of the first things I thought, and still think about every time I see clips of this, is "why would they cast Tim Heidecker and Dan Castellaneta in what's supposed to be a horror movie?'.
When I watched this movie recently, Doom wanted to stay in the negative zone, why not leave him there?! Lol

9:58 did i see a different cut? i remember the scene ending out with the group deciding on a name. Johnny Storm says something, Reed goes wait say that again, Johnny repeats himself, Reed decides on Fantastic Four. Don't rem the group reaction coz i literally did a face palm in the cinema before it cut to credits
I had this one thought for the Disney version... that the FF crew (Reed, Sue, Johnny and Ben) could all be scientists working at Stark Industries (post Endgame). They meet around the water cooler from time to time, but are thrust together into a project that has to do with interstellar travel - something Earth hasn't been able to accomplish without help from aliens. So, using their specific skill-sets, the crew of four (and maybe a piece of re-jiggered Stark tech with an AI named "Herbie") are tasked with unlocking interstellar travel. The problem is that it works TOO well... and they're sent through the cosmos (giving them their powers along the way). And the bulk of the movie is them trying to get back home.
They can meet intergalactic foes and characters in their travels, set up Silver Surfer, set up Galactus, finally... and by the end of the movie, they either reach Earth (with the help of a secretly-evil Von Doom), or ...they make peace with the fact that they may never get home...and then run into either the Guardians, or Thor at the end of the film, setting up a sequel (or their inclusion in another hero's film).
Kind of morbidly curious about the original cut of this film. The sheer amount of stuff that was cut out sounds fascinating. Probably not a good one, but interesting.

So did Snyder. He made a short, a film (it´s in post-production) and is now making a cartoon. He also shut up for 2 years and only started to speak up when most actors in JLA also spoke up that they would like to see the film they wanted to make be released. Trank on the other hand... and Snyder never abused his cast.

This movie remains, to this day, the only movie I’ve seen where I walked out of the theater. It’s just excruciating
My biggest gripe with this movie was when they were sitting around the lab, getting drunk just before going to the phantom zone. They sat around for hours, passing around a 4 oz flask. How is that enough booze to keep 4 adults lubricated for all that time? Somehow the flask never empties. Now THAT would have been a worthwhile invention.

this was the ONLY movie I ever fell asleep to. I was with my dad and I swear this 1h40 minutes movie felt like a never ending nightmare.

I had no idea about the whole Dool becoming Galactus’ herald thing. That actually would’ve been really cool to see especially considering we would get to see a real Galactus.

The best interpretation of the Fantastic Four and Doctor Doom I’ve seen are in Avengers: Earths Mightiest Heroes, they team up with the avengers and Doom is 100% comic accurate, he’s very cool in that show and is definitely more of an actual villain instead of a walking cliche, the fantastic tour also actually use their powers in that show
Agreed definitely the most accurate. I also liked the way he was portrayed in Iron Man armored adventures as this creepy robot sorcerer.
