    This video ACTUALLY teaches matching plaids. Others I have watched make only a slap-dash effort. The pants look great.

    Great job at matching your plaids. Love the wide leg pants.

    My Mother sewed all her life and she said that if the plaid matched, it was probably made by a home sewer! Like you said, ready-made doesn’t seem to be matched any more!

    Omigosh! I love you for posting this video! I'm newish to sewing clothes after over a decade of sewing purses and other purse-related items, and I impulsively decided to make my husband pajamas for Christmas about two weeks before Christmas. I wasn't thinking when I chose to a plaid flannel, but I'm like you. The plaids must match, or I think the finished product looks bad. I'm using a pattern that has no side seams, so I need two mirrored pieces. I was trying to figure out how to accomplish that without getting my plaids all askew. Such a simple solution. I don't know why I didn't think of this. Thank you so much!

    Following these tips to sew my very 1st chemise à carreaux for the 2023 Festival du Voyager here in Winnipeg. My boy goes to a French Immersion school and they use a plaid shirt in February .
    Wish me luck!

    You are so calm about sewing. Perhaps a lot of that comes with your training/knowledge. When you said you were cutting the waistband on the bias, my mind did a "red alert" - would that not make it stretchy? Perhaps your plaid fabric is quite stable in all directions? Your skills are amazing!

    • @CatherineSews
      @CatherineSews  Před rokem +2

      You're right, cutting on the bias does add stretch, but that gets taken care of when we interface the piece, so it's all good! But I actually wish those pants have a bit more stretch in the waist!

    I really enjoy and appreciate your videos. I learned to sew as a child and used to sew a lot. I’m retired now and getting back into sewing. You’re a terrific teacher. Thank you so much!

    Very useful advice as always! Could you perhaps consider making more videos on matching prints and patterns in the future? I love the idea of using prints, but pattern placement is still a bit intimidating :)

    • @CatherineSews
      @CatherineSews  Před 2 lety +1

      Vivenna, don't be intimidated by prints! Pattern placement is not much different with prints than with plain fabrics. The main thing to watch for is whether or not the print has a direction to it, or if there is an UP and a DOWN to the print. You don't want all upside down images on your garment, but most often prints have the images going both ways to eliminate this problem. The only other thing I check for is if there are focal points that you don't want to have on key areas like the bust point etc. Other than that, prints are fun and beautiful and nothing to worry about, so go and enjoy!

      @@CatherineSews thanks for your detailed reply, Catherine! ❤️ I'll probably try out a simpler pattern with it and just make sure I follow the direction + have no big flower on my bust apex 😄

    Hi! Thanks for the video. I’m making a jacket and more important than the side seam that are under my arms matching, I’d love to make sure that the plackets match up. How do I go about doing that? The video only cover the matching of the side seam. Thanks!!

  • @PatternStudio101
    @PatternStudio101 Před 2 lety +2

    Yeah.. if plaid isn't matched up at side seam, I don't buy it lol too picky🤣

    • @CatherineSews
      @CatherineSews  Před 2 lety

      Right!? That's one reason why sewing with plaids is so satisfying; you can do it better than ready-to-wear!
