I recently watched a new science fiction film called "I Am Mother". The film is set in the aftermath of a great catastrophe that spells the end of humanity. Before the catastrophe, 63,000 human embryos were preserved in a safe bunker underground. A robot selects one of these embryos and starts to grow it. What I have to say about the continuation of the story in the film is not directly related to this opening scene, but this introduction made me think. What kind of individuals would children born in an environment completely isolated from the outside world become in the future? If it were possible to raise these children without human interaction, how would they communicate with each other and what language would they use? Such questions are not new; throughout history, newborn babies have been repeatedly isolated and experimented on. During these experiments, the babies were prevented from communicating with the outside world in any language, hence the name "Language Deprivation Experiments". The aim of these experiments was to discover the origin of the language we speak and, more importantly, the foundations of human nature.
