Sorry but the 107 is a great car... I swapped my old mx5 NB for one as I needed something more practical and it's a charming little thing... Nice little engine note, Toyota reliability, very agile and miniscule running costs, it's actually an intelligent buy for a young person

The 107,C1 and Aygo ( all the same car) will outlive the Micra. Some of the aforementioned have over 200,000 miles on the clock and are still going strong 💪

    • @BuckleUpShow
      @BuckleUpShow  Před 4 měsíci

Between the Aygo, C1 and 107 there are currently only 4 examples on auto trader with over 150,000 miles, there are eight Micra's. Neither model has any examples for sale with over 200k miles

@@BuckleUpShow probably because they are too busy being driven rather than being sold 😆 I knew somebody who took an Aygo to 275,000 miles and it was still running fine when he got rid of it. Whilst it may feel flimsy the Aygo platform is by far the most reliable small car platform you can easily buy into today. All the important stuff is bulletproof, Wouldn't touch a Micra now... Full of Renault parts and development, they've not been reliable since the old K'11s

Wouldn't say the Aygo/C1/107 platform is a granny car. Yeah, it's small, agile and economical but it's more suited for younger people. And here's my reasoning, as a 30-y.o. owner of a 2008 107!
    1) The styling is youthful, inside and out, and the A-pillar rake requires somewhat of a more flexible neck to see around some of the front and side angles and corners of the car.
    2) The seats are unipiece buckets with a race car-like rake, meaning they're not gonna be suitable for grannies. And, as we know, grannies drive with their heads right on top of the steering wheel.
    3) The suspension is quite firm and, because the car is lightweight (about 850kgs), it reacts accordingly to the bumps and potholes it meets with, despite the tall 60-profile side wall of the factory tyres (155/60R14 steelies on mine), so grannies won't have a good time with their spines in the Toyota-PSA triplets. On the other hand, younger drivers will have a great time since the firm suspension, combined with the low weight, also makes the car feel tight in the corners and agile in any change of direction!
    4) The engine is actually very gutsy and, being a 3-cylinder, it also makes a fantastic baby-V6 sound that is simply a joy at spirited driving and when revving it out @6500rpm. In fact, I had already known this sound by listening to it on the road in the previous years, so it was one of the main deciding factors that helped me go to the Toyota-PSA triplets! Also, the 5-speed manual has a somewhat rough gear lever, it needs a bit of coaxing to put the gear you want in. Plus, the gearing is amazingly tall, you can reach 35mph revving out the 1st gear and 65mph revving out the 2nd gear, so younger folks are gonna have a good amount of fun in an impromptu stoplight drag race. But this also means that, in some cases, say on an uphill, the lower gear is too much and the higher one is not enough, especially with more than 2 people inside the car, and the gear lever's unruly character makes on-the-fly gear changes difficult without losing a good bit of your speed in this scenario.
On the plus side for the grannies, though, the exposed metal on the inside is a very nice styling touch to my eyes but it's also a great nod to the cars of the 50s, so grannies are gonna like it too.
Also, being a Toyota product underneath, its technology is simple, proven and, therefore, reliable, so neither the youngsters nor the grannies must worry about anything other than the scheduled basic maintenance and care.
Not to mention that it is very economical. I don't exactly know how to calculate the fuel consumption since the small screen on the speedometer doesn't offer much information other than the 6-bar scale for the 35-liter fuel tank, the trip odometer and the total odometer, but suffice to say I put fuel once every two months or so, doing about 250 miles on city streets and outer city roads (plus having some fun with the baby-V6 sound)!
In short, the Toyota-PSA triplets are great little cars! 💗😎✌

I appreciate your enthusiasm for the 107, though I would say
      1) By youthful interior do you mean cheap? Yes I know it was a very affordable car when new but that clear plastic section round the heater controls has always looked particularly unpleasant to me
      2) I'm not sure what your wider experience is but those seats are a far cry from buckets
      3) I don't find the suspension to be particularly firm, and it's less sure footed on the road than rivals from Hyundai and VW group's
      4) Tall gearing is the opposite of what you want for a car to be driven enthusiastically
All this may be tainted by me learning to drive in a Citroen C1 and I couldn't wait to drive literally anything else that might be a little more interesting

Out of those two, the Micra, 100%. The 107 (C1, Aygo) in that generation has a charm and likeability to it (imo) which that generation of Micra just doesn't have. Plus, I have never seen a young person driving that generation of Micra, but I have seen loads driving 107's, C1's and Aygo's

We agree the 107/C1/Aygo do have a slight charm but only with a MANUAL gearbox. The auto is simply atrocious! The Micra makes much more sense as an auto and that’s why it wins so easily 😊

@@BuckleUpShow The manual version of the 107 is a great little driver's car. I wouldn't have believed it myself until I bought one. I had a bit of a gas guzzler before but I was fed-up of taxing it and filling it with petrol so I bought a 107 simply as a financial exercise. I was delighted to find out how much fun it is. I absolutely love it. I bet I have more fun on the roads than someone in a Ferrari who can only use 10% of his car's ability.
