What Howie doesnt realize is that singing is not all about belting out songs, it reaches a larger audience when it is heartfelt, delicate and most importantly graceful
There's an insane amount of technique and power, to sing like this. Maintaining that much compression, to sustain a delicate vibrato is more challenging than belting. It's a shame he has little technical knowledge of what it takes to sing. After all these years on AGT, you'd think he'd want to learn?
Exactly! Not all singers need to belt! Madilyn can belt, but I like it when she doesn’t and shows her angelic voice. Broadway star Taylor Louderman (who played Regina George on Mean Girls Broadway) and Liz Gillies from Victorious both sing low all the time because while they both can belt, they know they don’t have to, to know they can sing.

I think her strategy in getting on the show is why she’s in a difficult position. Her audition was great but it was also super quirky because she took hate comments and made them into a song. For people who don’t know her at all, they would develop an expectation that she would maintain this quirkiness with a purpose to call out haters for each performance. Howie had an expectation that she would be that quirky, funny singer that could spread awareness about social media negativity in a creative way- and now he will forever be disappointed because she “changed” her path. She wants to show what type of artist she is and continue what she has always loved and done for her fan base, but for people who don’t know her, her first audition didn’t really accurately capture the type of artist she wants to be. It was just creative on her part, but she doesn’t want to be that quirky singer every week.
We also don;t know how the show is edited. Remember on x-factor that one artist was push to sing a pink song but she didn't want to. Maybe Madilyn did want to sing a cover for her audition but they told her they wanted her to sing her quirky mean tweet song. It would get way more view for the show. Once she pass the first round they didn;t care what she sing anymore. I am not saying this is the case but remember these show are incredibly stage.

Exactly!!! I love Madilyn and it clearly worked out since she got this far, but I didn't think singing that song in her first audition was a great move. She's sooo much more than that, she's such a bigger artist! That song is fun and quirky, but I've never seen that as anything more than a hobby to Madilyn. When I look at her, I see Adele potential, I see a strong, powerful singer, not a quirky one. And I think she should have shown that since the beginning.

I think was one of her best performances. Her ability to write good songs and be creative is excellent. She deserves to be in the finale.
Music isn’t about perfection, it’s about emotion and expression. Marilyn is wildly talented in singing and song writing. It’s clear this song meant a LOT to her. Howie was so out of line with the girl, woman, whatever comment as well as the criticism for not being “quirky”. Madilyn has shown a range of talent that stretches genres.
And range should be appreciated. It would be boring if every artist stayed in one lane.

You can't always sing the quirky songs you HAVE to show vulnerability and you one million percent did that with this performance.I loved it.
She is not the type of artist that sings quirky songs any way if you judge her by her content on her CZcams channel. Howie defined her by her first audition unfortunately it gave people like Howie the wrong impression....she is not a humorous singer....her materials (other than that one song) even covers are serious stuff.

@@MM-mn7dg her voice might’ve not been in good condition, as a vocal student I’m very aware of that, everyone gets that day now and then where their voice isn’t working out and you just simply can’t blame her. She already said she was very emotional when she sang it. Plus, do you even know about her? Do you know what she’s sung before? Personally I think she’s amazing and her original songs are so good and it’s just too harsh to judge her on something she can’t control.

I think this was one of the rudest comments Howie has ever said on the show. It's one thing to give constructive criticism but his remarks were very unprofessional. It wasn't entirely my favorite performance of hers but she did a beautiful job, especially singing an original.
