Despite not having working portals in Scrap Mechanic, this challenge was created to give the illusion of working portals by using duplicate rooms! The challenge also has some mysterious secrets to discover

It's supposed to be like that, this is a testing room like one in the game from Portal.
In the story you have to do levels like that one before but after a while you manage to escape.

I tried this one a few days ago, it was my first map from the workshop. I personally loved it. I loved the alternative ending

that tease is most likely a farmbot of sorts as it seems to have joints at the bottom,seemingly for legs. the top right seems to be the head but I'm unsure. the center piece of the photo is definitely a nosle sprayer which probably shoots out water and/or fire or gas.

i think that the thing is an adjustable laser for possibly mining out bricks in survival mode. that would be really useful if they had that sort of thing.

If you haven't played the Portal series of games already, perhaps you should. It's exactly this but with a well thought out story. There's lots of figuring out which seems to be your sort of thing. I certainly enjoyed them more than I thought I would, especially when I realised exactly what they were.

the dots next to them have always been there, each part currently has a colored underline that corresponds to how it works. Tools are yellow, blocks are blue, parts are green, interactables are orange.
My guess on what that thing is that it is a paint farmbot: it would have a adapted paint tool that would be used to spray the dwarf with paint, blinding and maybe even slowing down the player for a brief moment.
(If it isn't a paint spraying farmbot, then they defenetly should make one)

I dont think that image is a side view like you were looking at it, I think it's a back shot of some sort of weapon, s you said it might be a flamethrower but flames wouldn't come out of that small tube.
Btw the colors marking items in sm was a thing for a long time, currently we have a line going under the item, and they are the same colors as these ones. so they might have had planned this for a long time but decided to re design stuff
I'm also thinking of how much the scrolling bar is down, as you see there is clearly many more parts down there that we can't see than there should be

In portal eventually you escape the actual puzzles into the behind the scenes where everything is broken and abandoned I assume that this is what the opened area is

i think it may be a welder machine as the colors and wires do match the weld tool very well(it probably isnt that would be to usefull xD)

I'd probably put buttons all over the walls and make a path from anywhere to anywhere as long as you have portals open, allowing any part of a wall to be a portal.
That'd be cool. This is maybe even cooler, but it is kinda limiting.

The first ending is like the basis of the first Portal Game where you're supposed to go into the furnace and be incinerated at the end, but instead you take another exit and work to escape the facility.

13:27 If you look closely, that is already in the game, it's the lines under the objects.
That looks like an engine. The tube thing is an exhaust and the cap is where gas or what ever goes in. And it fuels the flamethrower if it is a flamethrower

With the new thing they might be adding a steam engine and you must lead pipes to stuff to make them work in order you need to power a piston you need to line it from the steam engine to the piston

For some reason my first thaught was suspension at like lvl 0
gas pump because those pipes lead to a tank maybe filled with gas and nozzle to connect to gas tank on vehicle?

you know those things that has a hose and then you find out a gas station they take out and then you use to fill up your car with gas and might be one of those or maybe even a mobile one hydraulic thing on his bottom is the stand for it but then it can be picked up and moved somewhere else so maybe if you're transferring bases or something like that you can refill your car with gasoline
