- Watching "Star Trek: The Next Generation" on Blu-Ray we developed the idea to create some (non-profit) teasers featuring animated interface designs from our favorite Star Trek show "Deep Space Nine" in the hope that CBS will give it the same HD treatment.
So here is our teaser for Season 1 of "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine". It features the Cardassian Space Station shortly before the pilot of DS9. The Cardassians just left after over 50 years of occupation and the Bajorans are about to take over the Station. The station kind of senses the imminent arrival of the bajoran military forces and "wakes up".
We are David Frank and Christian Lerch and this is a fun project we did in our spare time. We are Motion Designers, Star Trek Fans and Sci-Fi nerds.

Such amazing creativity. This is exactly how I imagine reimagined Star Trek. No Kurtzman bullshit. Updated effects like this coupled with new and creative writing and it would be a huge success. If Mandalorian proved anything, THIS is the WAY!
I just discovered these trailers. Believe me when I say, that this is work of such a high caliber that I got goosbumps. The CGI is obviously a little spotty. Believe me, that is not a criticism. You dont have CBS' backing. But for what you are working with, and the choicest voiceovers, it is such a high level of service to the source material that its beyond sublime. This is above par stuff. Well fucking done guys. CBS needs to see this and get their together with Star Trek. You guys deserve to be the ringleaders that gets DS9 the studio treatment. Wow. Just wow.

I was captivated by this show as a kid but never seen it in its entirety. I bought the dvd complete boxset, then heard about this doc a few days later and ever since then i was hoping for a bluray release of the series so still haven't watch it on dvd.

Episodes were shot on film and not video so they are already 4K so they need to just jump over 1080p HD.

I consider myself a big Trek fan. I watched every show several times by now but I never watched DS9. I watched a few episodes here and there and I know the overall plot but I never watched it all. I hope that someday I get to it. :D

I'd love a HD remaster, or even a remake. I think DS9 had so much to offer and was limited by budget.
CBS Is being spiteful.They own the rights to nearly every old show and yet they refuse to re-issue most of them on Blu-Ray, or better yet 4k uhd. If they have not remade I Love Lucy or M*A*S*H in blu-ray by now. They are certainly in no hurry to give us DS9 or Voyager anytime soon or at all. It is a clear cut attempt to push everyone toward streaming Chanels.
I agree it leaves a foul taste in the mouth for us fans of Star Trek. I guess that's expected with the owners of the franchise listening only to the stock holders anymore for profit when they say they want it; it might come years or decades later by then I'd have lost interest. Heck I don't even think of attempting Trek fan films of my own if I had the means for fear of being sued by CBS/Paramount. Axanar I so miss the dream of that fan film.
Fucking rihht. 100% agree. A body of work with the high water mark of Science Fiction sjoild be GUARANTEED to 1080P treatment. Who ever is running the studio needs to checm them . lol
To be fair, its not that simple. Now I would 100% love to have an HD (or now, even UHD) release of DS9, but doing so isn't a matter of just "putting it out there." It is extremely expensive to do.
It was costly for TNG because the show was mastered on VHS, which is definitely NOT an HD format! It had original footage on 35mm film, though, so it was possible to recreate. But it did mean re-editing everything from scratch, after having dug out all the original film elements. It was a hell of a job.
DS9 is even harder, as its later seasons had a lot of CGI footage, all of which was rendered at SD. The original prerendered content is gone, so there's no way to reproduce it at HD without recreating it all from scratch.
Now I'd pay good money for an HD release of DS9, I really would. But it isn't a simple job to produce and as much as I hate the way CBS has treated Trek, it really isn't a matter of spite that there's no HD DS9. Its just a matter of cost vs return and unfortunately, the TNG remasters didn't make enough money for an even-more-expensive DS9 remaster to be considered.
I hate it, but that's economics.
CBS treats Trek fans like absolute dog shit, and they have been for many years.

Just for the lols , i'm trying to scratch build a cover for my smartphone that looks like a Cardie data padd so i can bring it out in conventions without it looking out of place :P

TNG was filmed using.. film, so it was easy to remaster. DS9 and Voyager were shot using digital cameras, so it's impossible to upgrade the quality with current technology.
This is not true. DS9 and VOY were also shot on film. So it is possible to upgrade the quality. In fact it has already been done for some scenes for the DS9 Documentary "What We Left Behind". And it looks amazing!
What track from the soundtrack is over this trailer?
The tingles are REAL the SENSATION is fake... Do it anyway. 4k UHD for both DS9 and Voyager.

Watching this makes me wish Paramount would not only remaster, but revamp the special effects (replace all the old scenes using models and 3D effects with modern high-resolution renders while remaining faithful to the original style). It would be so much better than the not-Star Trek "reboot" movies and Star Trek Discovery they are churning out.

I don't even like DS9 but this is amazing work.
Yeah, no offence, but an HD CG-heavy recreation is the VERY LAST thing that should be done. DS9 is perfect as it is; it looks good, and the quality actually adds to the realistic look everything has. CG might look sharper, but it takes too much away.
I believe what people want is TNG-like restoration. DS9, especially early seasons, is blurry and looks like something that belongs to VHS era... and many shows from that era got HD treatment.
"This is rubbish...." Then... "FFS CZcams". That moment when the auto quality sets a video meant to showcase HD, down to less than broadcast quality. It keeps happening!
I hated the Deep Space Nine theme of the series it be better of they used yours instead with this intro.
