  • VW Passat Variant B8 2014-2023 Sunroof drain System blocked.
The car was leaking water into the trunk and the only way the water could get in was leaking from the sunroof.
I reached the drain tubes and saw that there was dirt blocking the way on both ends. after cleaning the tubes the water leaked out smoothly without any problem.

So you cleaned the drainage tube but now all the dirt that was inside it is now on the sunroof canal?

What about the front side drainage? 🤔 Please let me know how to clean the front side drainage. Thanks for the great video 👍

      Hi,
The front side would be easier to clean as you dont have to open any screws at all just lift up the hood locate the drainage end and clean it with the brush

Is there same drain lines in another side of the car? I got water problem as well. Water keeps coming in somewhere from D-pilar. Somewhere between light and dark plastic panels. 🤔

Yes. I have the same problem. When i drive through a carwash, water will come dropping (sometimes) from the center panel control of my panoramic sunroof. Another time water came from the front left pillar. I always use the same carwash and 9 out of 10 times there is no leaking but once a year this happens to me.

I have a similar problem on my Tiguan BUT: If the sunroof is closed, how does the water even get to the drains? Surely the fit of the glass in the roof rubber seals does the sealing? There seems to be no gaps around the roof seal. This should be tested first by covering the entire opening roof edge seal with duck tape and then compare the inside wetness after heavy rain to see if it is still leaking. If still wet, then water could be getting in elsewhere...leaking windscreen seals or even rear lights or doors..

      I have a Passat B8 (from new - 7 1/2 years old)
Have had to cleaned the front drains out 2 in the last 2 years using Grass strimmer cord.
At best the seals keep most of the water out.
When the car is waxed the water beads off across the roof seals front to back
However the water running off the sides runs into the gully in the rubber seals down the sides.
Latest failure was the one of the side arms that lift the wind deflector up snapped halfway along.
This caused the end of the spring inside it to jam the sunroof when open 2 inches.
Could only be closed by pushing the spring down with a finger while sitting in the car.
New wind deflector £205! and 30 mins to fit

Once I had water in my trunk and the trunk door itself (!) because the rubber cover around the back windshield wiper wasn't properly in place. Maybe worth a look in your case.
