      well i'm sure they don't want to record the entirety of them working. that would be boring but it would also bother her co-workers, i'm sure. just an FYI, we don't normally code all day. that leads to burnout, fast. most of the day, at my office anyway, is spent in meetings. coding is important, but if everyone isn't on the same page, that pretty much makes your work pointless.

    People need to know that just because we are not in front of a PC writing code, doesn't mean it's not on your mind. Many times it is essential to walk away and reset our brains to find an error.
    Additionally developers are constantly think about their code and what's coming down the pipeline, from the moment our eyes open until they close.

These days I'm a D&C manager and its about 20 different meetings a week but I'm also out and about physically interacting, mentoring, helping my engineers where I can. Sierra Marie You're still not getting my point, I'm talking about having to stay at work, the breaks are there because of the unhealthy work-life balance, unless of course she stayed on her own which I doubt because who would choose to stay at work. This new "startup" culture is about having quite some free time from these breaks , but at the same time you get to work all day.

    No wonder the AirBNB website is so dysfunctional: your IT department consists of a bunch of millennials sitting around eating and chatting.

      Is 'code monkeys' supposed to be a sneering term for those people who are bright enough to be able to program? In any case, whoever it was who designed their site was inept: it would be extremely hard to create anything less functional. To be honest, I can't see much evidence of any coding expertise at Airbnb.
      However, you are right: as in most companies with too much money and thick senior managers, the IT department at Airbnb is obviously an environment where nobody is pushed to do anything constructive. A competent full-stack developer could do the work of that entire room of people, and do it much better.

    This video is a nice commercial for promoting AI to write code. It shows how horribly inefficient and costly humans are to maintain and get any actual work out of them.
    This precisely is why we will all be (and rightfully so) replaced by robots and AI.

    • @brinckau
      @brinckau Před 5 lety

      Robots will make things but who will buy those things if nobody has a job anymore? That would imply making things to use them, not to sell them. But we could already do that, we don't need to wait until nobody has a job anymore. We wouldn't even need to produce useless things anymore, we wouldn't need marketing anymore, etc. So much less work to do, in the end.

      What did you expect? Did you want a video just of her staring at a screen? She obviously can't show you her screen. Why are you mad that they don't just sit at their laptops all day? That isn't good for anyone. AI is not a good option at all.

    I do not even understand why some people so rude. This video gives a message that all she do is not about sitting in the corner and code for a whole day and not such stressful things but all about collaborating and meeting. For me, as a software student I see her and my future job as a very comfortable and flexible. Pets, dishes, people meetings are what makes person calm and prepared to work. Thank you Luba for sharing. You are giving a good example for people.
