Season two has been really good so far. My favorite moment from the show is probably the intentionally no rhyming song.
Even though bears have to get knowledge and bears have to go to college, it just seems a bit unbearable for me to have to take the class Bears 101 followed by the Bears 102 class so that I can ultimately get my graduate degree.

Watching this for about the 20th time i can really see how much zach worked to get them off the school thing and have the story be sensible and zeke just couldnt get off college so thats where they went.

Guys, I figured it out! The bears are his friends who he has to leave when he goes to college!
Dylan’s running away cause he’s upset his friends are all leavings.
Tyler’s getting into a relationship to try to stay connected, but has too many friends (and bears) for a single relationship!

The whole song is actually about wishing the solution was as simple as staying overnight in the mall with their friends: that they could just go to the same college as there friends, work the same job as them, and eventually get married to them.
But they realize, that if they try to force themselves to stay together, they’ll be trapped, as though locked in the back room of a Sharper Image. But there’s a solution, it’s not some crazy plan or contraption, no it’s something that was staring them in the face the whole time just like the loading door of the Sharper Image was. It’s the sounds they’ve been hearing throughout the entire escape song! Dial up internet and AIM! They realize they don’t need to be physically together to maintain their bond. They can stay as close as two gay wed teddy bears, without tying each other down like the mall keys and ring do. They just need to connect through the wonders of the internet. Thus, they can keep these teddy bears, which represent their bonds, as they all leave for their own colleges… like 30 minutes apart.
I know this is probably just me reading into things way too deeply, but this is where my mind went as I watched this episode, and when I finished it, I genuinely thought for a moment “wow, this is the strongest thematic through line I’ve ever seen in an episode of Play it by Ear”.
This song is improv magic 💯 the kinda thing that makes me remember why I fell in love with it in the first place
