  • This is a simple, no-frills 4-minute video explaining my lesson-learned with repairing my (6-year-old) Dyson DC39 Vacuum that was shutting itself off due to over-heating.
The excellent video from 2015 by Phil Thorsen "Dyson DC54 airfilter replacement" • Dyson DC54 airfilter r... was all I needed to solve some of the tricky parts of disassembling the unit. All credit to Phil! Thank you. The DC54 and DC39 are so similar that his expertise is all you should need without my elaboration.
The Dyson 922444-02 Filter is readily available on Amazon, it came in a box that said "Genuine Dyson part," mine cost less than $35 US: www.amazon.com/dp/B00Y365QBU
Apologies for not having exciting music and opening graphics, and further for not hiring a professional "Voice" (I did consider having my dog walk through the scene for dramatic effect). I do hope this will help you. Let me know!
    Thanks.

I admire your determination. I have a similar model. After I vacuum for about 10 seconds the roller stops spinnig bt there's still suction. If I mov the cleaner to the standing position it resets itself and spins again for about 10 seconds. I've found no blockages, the roller is clean as are the filters. I can only assume the thermal cut off switch is malfunctioning or hopefully not the problem you have 0:10

Nice video …. I would blow out the filter with a compressor & put that bad boy back together. ✌🏻

I did try that, but that filter was gummed up.

Full-disclosure, although replacing the internal filter helped, a number of months later the thermal overload problem returned. I found an OEM replacement motor for $80 on Amazon - www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00Y360DYU and am happy with the outcome. I did consider trying to replace the thermal protector (see the green item on the motor housing in the Amazon listing), but decided not to waste additional time on this. Happy to be done for $80.
