Magic Realism: An Evening with Arthur Tress

As an emergent professional in the New York photography world circa 1968-78, Arthur Tress’s artistic practice evolved from being rooted in the social documentary tradition to a bold new approach drawing inspiration from the inner worlds of fantasies, daydreams, and nightmares. The exhibition Arthur Tress: Rambles, Dreams, and Shadows presents the first critical look at Tress’s early career, contextualizing the highly imaginative, fantastic work he became known for while also examining his other interrelated series.
