I had just turned 17 when I got my first (full time) job as a grocery checker at a mom & pop grocery store in Orange County. It was the same store where I used to buy my candy when I was a kid. LOL! Wow Maria, how lucky you were to be paid a visit by Brandon the ice-cream man! I can't remember the last time I got ice cream from an ice cream cart/truck. In fact, I can't even remember the last time I saw or heard one coming down my street. LOL!! You're right, you can always tell when one's around by the bells. My mouth was watering when I saw those sweet treats at the end. How refreshing! That was so nice of you to give Brandon some business--and I'm sure he didn't mind the generous tip! LOL! Krazy Kooking Hi John! I didn't realize that there aren't as many ice cream trucks around anymore. I hope they are not becoming a thing of the past. Brandon came back on Saturday afternoon and he had ice cream sandwiches, so I bought two of those. He's also now selling soda pops and bags of chips. Looks like he's already expanding his business. Wow Maria! I used to have an ice cream truck that used to come around my house but they stopped coming around in 2015, but we have a Dairy Queen 1 minute away from my house, when I saw the ice cream truck was gone I was really sad, but I didn’t know there was a Dairy Queen near us until 2016.
Hi! I love Dairy Queen ice cream swirl cones! Yum!!! And I can sure see why you'd be sad when the ice cream truck stopped coming around. When I was a kid we even had the Helms' Bakery Truck that came through our neighborhood. Your grandma might remember this. Not sure if the Helms' Bakery was just in Southern California, but I'm pretty sure there were mobile bakery trucks through the U.S. back then. Hope you have a great weekend! Maria thank you for sharing. Brandon is 12 years old. And learning how to work for his money. He has great parents. They are teaching him. How to work for what you want. Two thumbs up for you Brandon. Enjoy your ice cream Maria. Yes those were the good old days. When the ice cream truck. Would go up and down each Street. I had a nickel. This was the price of ice cream then. Don't know why but I put it in my mouth. That's a No-No. I was jumping up and down and excited. I swallowed the nickel. It got lodged in my throat. The ice cream man jumped out of his truck. He stuck his finger in my throat. Dislodge the nickel. I got sick. He got all over me. Don't ever put money in your mouth. You scared me I feel like whooping you. Of course I said yes sir. And I asked him if he wanted the nickel. He said no ma'am. I started crying that I wanted ice cream. He gave me a free ice cream. Can't blame him.
Oh, my goodness, Patricia! I'm laughing and crying at the same time. Sorry. But thank goodness the ice cream man leaped into action and saved you from choking on that nickel lodged in your throat. That ice cream man was your here that day! I bet he went home and told his kids not to put their money in their mouths. That had to be really scary. And a time when he said he was going to whoop you and the guy didn't end up on the news. LOL! And yes, those were the good ol' days when we waited for the ice cream truck to roll through our neighborhood. And the Helms Bakery truck, too! Such happy times! And yep, I do remember some ice cream bars costing only a nickel. Oh, boy, those were the days, weren't they? Fifty cents for a Saturday movie matinee and we got to watch two movies and a cartoon, and if we came in late we got to stay in our seats, because the movies just kept rolling. A whole dollar on Saturdays was like a million bucks to a kid back then. And I even came home with a few cents change for penny candies from the corner market where I had my first job as a grocery clerk at just 17 years old. Working full time at 17 with medical benefits. LOL! And I wish Brandon all the luck in the world with his new business venture! He must have wonderful parents! Thanks for watching! And happy summer! :-) :-)

That’s pretty awesome he’s only 12 years old and he has his own job when i was growing up i remember all the kids and some of my classmates in my neighborhood would all gather around the corner to wait for the ice cream truck during the summer sometimes when i went to the park as a kid near my grandparents house i would always see the the ice cream truck and i would always get a spongebob popsicle every time they were my favorite as a kid 😊
Hi Garland Girl! I agree, Brandon is quite the entrepreneur for just twelve years old! And what happy childhood memories waiting for the ice cream truck. And a Spongebob Popsicle sounds sooo cute!!! Our boys used to like the red, white, and blue rockets. I think that's what they were called.
