Howdy from Funky Town N Texas!! Great videos and great lessons!! 🤘🤠🤘
After having glued the fabric to the surface of the wooden guitar body, I would like to understand which is the most correct/suitable transparent product to spray, or brush, on the surface of the fabric that I have previously glued to the wooden surface of the guitar, in order to finish the work of covering the surface of the two faces of the guitar body. Then and for the thickness of the guitar body, what else should I spray, or brush, in order to make it dark, I would even say black, in order to hide the entire perimeter of the fabric cut flush with the edge of the guitar body?
g8 idea matt, i have a question, im thinking of doing a tele with the fabric( never done it before) im presuming you put polyester over the fabric? im thinking of routing a binding channel once the poly and fabric is all set, would that work? or would the router bit grab the fabric? or do you route the binding channel first then somehow cut the fabric to size..cheers
Pretty cool! First time I've ever watched this being done. I think it would be decent to try some day. I've got a Tele copy I might do a cammo fabric on. Thanks for the video!
Texas Toast Guitars really haven't made a final decision yet. Just had the inspiration watching you this evening. Never thought of it before. Thanks!
Texas Toast Guitars lol...I guess you're an ex marine? I'll have to check it out. Might be cool! It's almost 11:30 where I live and I'm still thinkin about redoing that guitar! I was never totally happy with the dark stained finish and the fabric might just be the answer! Thanks again!👍😎🎸🎶
I tried this on a tele with leopard print, it looks killer.
It’s beautiful.
I really want to give that a go some day!
Yeah man I'd love to see what you come up with. Wait till you see my BBQ restaurant series :)
I wonder if a modded stew mac binding jig ,or similiar could flushtrim and also round over the whole body perimiter?..
I'm sure it could work. We have a new binding jig but pretty much leave it alone. If you wanted to have some multi-taskers it would be worth investigating.
Mrs. Texas Toast to the rescue! Sorry, but I've had a hard time envisioning you at JoAnn's! : )
I've always loved flowered & paisley prints! My little girl loves crafts & I'm always grateful when she makes a forage into the fabric department at Walmart! Love this print & love what you're doing bro!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Looks fantastic! Hoping you would show how to do a guitar without binding. THANKS!⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
which glue?
which simtec top coat do you use? im also doin a lefty strat, soon as i find the fabrick i want
Hi Tony, thanks for watching, we use the EZ Sanding Sealer. I'm not sure what the part number is but when you call Simtec they can help you out.
What's the name or that fabric and where can i find it or close? i dig it. Thanks for the videos
That stuff came from JoAnn Fabrics. I did a blog about fabric tops here...www.texastoastguitars.com/single-post/2018/10/16/How-We-Do-Fabric-Top-Guitars
The dream right now is a tacky 70’s white, lime, yellow, brown, orange floral/nature grandma sheet covering a Moserite Ventures/Univox Hi-Flier with a bound Jaguar short scale neck (big tacky beautiful headstock) and a vinyl record pickguard. Someday, hopefully soon.
That would be a cool one, tricky with the German carve but cool.
Oh, anything white is also tricky... think wet t-shirt contest.
Texas Toast Guitars I definitely don’t doubt the tricky-ness of it. Might end up making some sacrifices/compromises on the dream in the end just for practicalities of my building experience. Or admit I’m not quite that smart (yet) and can’t quite build it myself. I happen to have heard of a guy who is an expat from my state that makes fabric top guitars all the time. ;)
Either way, I need to finish my first build before even begin to tackle it though. Got a huge chunk of black walnut from my cousin when I asked if he had any pine 2x4 from a contracting job left over for me to try and build a guitar with. Bought a Tele deluxe style all maple bullet truss rod neck and have been slowly trying to turn that walnut into a Telecaster body. Minimal tools and an apartment are not conducive to a speedy building process. Though I’ve definitely learned the value of a good Japanese saw.
black burst for sure
Oh yeah, we kept the burst on the small side and it turned out super cool
What about a body that's already got binding? Suggestions ???
Hmmm at that point I would just cut the old binding off and start with new
I have a plywood epi special that might need this finish
I’m thinking about doing something like the fender painted over series where it’s reliced to look like the paint is showing the fabric finish
Would you ever want to guest on a podcast and talk about doing fabric top guitars?
I would be happy to do a podcast about fabric guitars or any of the other stuff that we do.
Send me an email and lets talk about it... texastoastmatt@gmail.com
What is the fabric your using? The name of it
I have no idea, I just went to the shop and picked something that looked cool
Seeing how you converted me from a crimson fan boy, to a TTG fan boy..
Just going through your videos, and noticed you said you dont accept any ad revenue from YT... seeing how this video is from 2018.. is this still the case?.. if so.. why lol.. you guys make great content?.. why not get paid for it?..
Thanks man, Crimson is still very worthy...
I hate ads on my videos so much that I really wanted to be completely viewer supported. However, as of August 2019 I was forced by the State Of Colorado to move from my home shop to an industrial area. This came with another bill every month and it became necessary to monetize my channel.

So rad that you reply to just about everyone that fires you a comment.. Crimson are still worthy.. but when i saw what you guys did, compared to everyone else in the competition.. seriously.. you brought the fire and the heat lol .. i aint bothered by the ads.. especially when it is helping to support free content that everyone gets to learn from AND enjoy.. keep up the awesome work guys and gals!..
Matt no disrespect But that fabric SUCKS...lol but you still RULE*******
Whaaaa?
No way dude I had to fight 3 elderly ladies at JoAnn Fabric for that one. Of course, I never met a piece of paisley that I didn't like
That is the fugliest thing I've ever seen.
C'mon you can do better than that.
You should be more specific and tell me how much cooler it would have been if you did it. You know, given your extensive experience doing... what ever it is you do.
hahahaha
Sorry snowflake, God forbid I have an OPINION. If you can't take criticism, then quit posting videos.
I nearly spit coffee all over my keyboard. I love it when youngsters (like you) use the term snowflake... it makes me laugh. I welcome the criticism, in fact, I asked for more.
Anyway, lets keep this going, the analytics get a boost the more comments I have on a particular video. Have a great labor day
8:18 YOU BETTER BE ABLE TO DO IT. your the one who makes the guitars😂
