- It's time for part 2 of reject Channels and this week we've got The Advert channel - probably a more fitting name for its later years was the AdULT channel, but how did it lose it's license?
The second segment today is On Digital and it's OnSomething channels including OnRequest and OnSport, and it's ITV successors and later, failures. What happened to the ITN News channel?
And finally today, another ITV but post the colapse of ITV digital. ITV Play - the quiz channel, what happened? The best show on the channel was QUIZMANIA! (and all the others). What happened on Quizmania Australia when the phones stopped working?

Lmao I literally thought "The Advert Channel" would have literally just be adverts, No programming.
Yeah hehe. The thing is they used to play some current adverts during the advert time but they used to make it look weird by skewing the image slightly which i'm guessing was an attempt to distinguish what was ads and not. If they'd done it properly it would have been my dream channel :D
There was a channel on satellite called best direct, played the same 5 adverts in loop, it was a British at home shopping network as far as I remember. Ran from between 2008-2010 I think
@@loganmacgyver2625Best Direct was UK dubs of US informercials that changed "dollars" to "pounds". Ran on the NTL Information Channel in 2005/6, then standalone from 2006-14/15.

Wow your channel is an absolute banger mate. Keep it up. You'll blow up. As someone who worked as a creative in a top advertising agency in London for years, I'm not surprised the discussion shows about advertising didn't work. Behind the scenes the industry is surprisingly boring.

Watched a fair bit of the ITV Sport channel thanks to it being carried on NTL.
Recall in about 1999/2000 OnDigital Sport (not possible to get anywhere!) carrying German football calling the programme Don’t Mention the Score!
True story, and very few know this but a mate of mine used to be a pro wrestler and even appeared on the Wrestling Channel (though not as much as me being an announcer) tried to book the Yes Car Credit lady as his manager. She was thankful for the contact but kindly declined.
Sounds ridiculous but I swear, it’s absolutely true. I won’t reveal his identity though.

The only time I remember ITV Play was an advert shown when I watched a family movie on ITV1 back in 2006.
Jesus! I remember saying to my friends and on a few internet forums that I was sick of adverts on TV and that someone should do a channel called The Advert Channel just so we can all avoid it. My friends pointed out though how would the likes of ITV or C4 survive (TV license or going subscription I guess) but I never knew there actually WAS an advert chsnnel lol! 😂

In the Meridian South region we were treated to Solent TV, which was a local TV station for the Isle of Wight, back in the early noughties. It was broadcast from Rowridge on UHF channel 54, where nobody could get it without an aerial upgrade. In January of 2007 it then made its way onto the Sky EPG on channel 219... and promptly went bust four months later.
If you can find anything about it for part 8 I'd be incredibly impressed 🙂
Great video, Covering defunct channels is always interesting.
I suppose if it weren't for ITV/On Digital going belly up, we wouldn't have Freeview now. However there was a hell of a lot wrong with On/ITV Digital on a hardware standpoint, a lot of the boxes were insanely easy to pirate, and a lot of black spots in their reception areas too.
At least Freeview and Freesat have decent reception in most places.

(Also, I think the ITV News Channel got replaced with, nonsensically ITV4. They could've shut Men and Motors and then moved all of their programming to ITV4).

Great series this, I vaugely remember some of these being on! My fave short-lived channel from the mid 2000s was CNX, which eventally become Toonami.
I've been looking for footage of the lanuch of Chart Show TV and a spin-off channel called Chart Shop TV with some weird live-animated character presenting them, I beleive around late 2002. I found the website on wayback machine but nothing else. If you manage to dig up anything else that'd be amazing!

I do think the ITN News Channel should be restored as the BBC News, Sky News, GB News and TalkTV have theirs.
I'd you can get any footage of the itv 2 replacement "tv you" run by utv. Especially the break loop. I remember the music being fantastic.
