- During a recent episode of 'The New Heights' Podcast, Travis Kelce called out the media for wanting Mike Tomlin fired. Despite nearing 17 straight seasons without a losing record, Tomlin has been on the hot seat for lackluster production on the offensive side of the ball. Colin Cowherd explains why the Steelers should move on from Tomlin. The Dallas Cowboys are seeking the No. 2 seed and NFC East title with a win over the Washington Commanders. However, that is reportedly not enough, as an anonymous general manager said that Jerry Jones 'would not be cool' with a Wild Card loss. This raises the question of Mike McCarthy's future. Watch as Colin predicts whether McCarthy is in trouble if the Cowboys miss out again.

Do we really think McCarthy could build the best defense in the NFL and take Joe Flacco to perennial AFC Championships and a Super Bowl in a conference with Brady, Manning, and Luck? There’s no comparison.
Seriously such a dumb comparison.
Thank you
Luck? Lol
Colin fails to realize McCarthy was hated for underachieving in GB
@@alexanderryan1176 I didn’t mention Big Ben, perhaps a better name to throw in there. AFC of the early 2010s was insane.
“Mike Tomlin will have arguments to get into the hall of fame” huh? The man was two super bowls and has never had a losing season. In no way is he not a hall of famer

@@jaredwright8085 yes and he’s a lot better than mike tomlin
In no way is Peyton better than Tomlin. The Steelers have been staying alive the past 3 years solely because of Tomlin
Harbaugh completely 180’d the offense switching from Flacco to Lamar and the creativity and innovation impressed us all. On the other hand Mike McCarthy doesn’t run the offense and has time management issues. So I think the reputations are warranted, but it is fun to see the similar numbers and Mike deserves his flowers for sure.
Says Tomlin is a perfect fit for the raiders and Washington. Then says he's not needed in Pittsburgh bc it's a qb league and a defensive coach needs to go where there's already a qb. Neither of those teams have that.
charlatan
That’s because it’s a moronic point that Pittsburgh should move on from him. Like who tf would we go get that would be better? So unimaginably stupid to me
Mike Tomlin in LA would be crazy
Mike Tomlin is fine.
Dont mess LT's name.
The Tomlin argument also applies to Pete Carroll. The team has plateaued and cannot get back to a Super Bowl with the current identity.
They don’t have the talent
@@pleaseshutup7053this is one of the most talented Seahawks teams in a while. A stud in Woolen a potential defensive rookie of the year in Witherspoon. 3 phenomenal receivers in DK JSN and Lockett a stud running back in Kenneth Walker. This could also be applied to the Steelers who have 2 all pros on defense and an above average receiving core with also a thousand yard back in Najee. It’s fine to blame the players because they play the game but can’t keep pointing fingers at everyone except for the guy who coaches the team and creates the gameplan.
Yeah Pete Carrol is okay with is just hanging out. Coaches up his players to battle out wins against really bad teams. And sneak into the playoffs….its all he has been doing for last 4 years. He just throwing guys on his roster and just hiring random coaches with no real insight or plan.
@@ThomasJeffersonIIICall'n your BS! Steelers only missed the playoffs 6 times in the last 16 years and their last playoff win was in 2016 when they beat the Chiefs.

Yea how stupid does that sound..I think colin toys with our emotions by saying outlandish shi
It probably will be this weekend with brad Allen
Compare the bad play call by Pete Carroll to throw from the one. Most often teams lose on poor execution, lack of discipline, not because the play call was wrong. I'll go too last year, when the Bills lost too the Vikings, the play call was correct, Josh made the wrong decision.
The line writers wrote a poor script today lmao.
Why does Travis care about Tomlin? Lol
After Phil left, the Bulls were terrible. Landry was losing before he was fired and arguably under achieved as a coach and took Dallas 4 years and another legendary coach to win again, eagles weren’t good when Reid left and the SB count is 2 to 1 for Reid and they would prefer Reid more as a coach in Philly. Have the Pats won without Bill? Maybe the owner should be an owner and higher a gm
New England has never won without Tom Brady. Bill was 5-13 before Tom took over. Coaches matter but great player matter more.
It’s a marriage of both. I think Bills problem isn’t coaching, he shouldn’t be allowed to be gm anymore. @@mtadams2009
One of your best episodes no doubt. A eye opener for those in any industry second guessing from making that change that’s much needed
"It's an offensive league, its a quarterback coaches league!" when all the spread offenses and shotgun-heavy temas are shitting the bed rn and all the under-center run fits (SF, Ravens, etc.) are dominating
Not to mention half the division winners might be defensive/special teams coaches.
The thing that annoying about Colin is that he is not consistent to his values, he’s the main who consistently talks about needing a good qb to win, and then in this argument, he puts all the blame on Mike Tomlin. He just has certain narrative that he wants to push to be right which I understand, but there has to be a little consistency
Look at his Jordan Love takes he dials back every week he has a good game.
You are exactly right and it is stupid how mcarthy is treated
I’m standing with Kelce on this one Steelers nation I told y’all y’all are fools for wanting Mike Tomlin out.
One thing to remember is Harbaugh has been in the AFC in a tougher division while McCarthy coached in one of the worst divisions in the NFC for a long time then moved to an even worse division outside of the Eagles for a couple years.
Horrible take Guy has Rodgers for a decade and won one Super Bowl in a horrible division. Harbaugh had Joe Flacco in the hardest division in the league and managed to win one. As much as we like Joe Flacco right now, Rodgers might be the best pure QB we have seen and guy managed only one win with countless home losses as the higher seed… give John Aaron for a decade and I bet he has more than one
McCarthy should totally be on the hot seat. If it wasn’t for going 12-5 for 3 straight seasons, he’d look even more confused and useless than he already is
Any of these Steelers fans that want Tomlin gone should go join the bengals/browns/commanders/jets/raiders/chargers fan bases or any of these other teams that just continue the coaching carousel, We don’t want you. Pittsburgh has had 3 coaches in 50 years, outside of the Patriots and maybe the 49ers every other team in the league wishes they had this franchises pedigree. Imagine rebuilding on the fly replacing hall of famers on both sides of the ball and still never have a losing season. We’re a offensive coordinator and a consistent qb away and the defense will keep us in most games regardless.
Tomlin stinks, you like mediocrity we don’t
Kelsey is right.
The Rooney's aren't looking to move on from Mike, nor should they. He isn't the problem, clearly.
They need a QB and an offense. If he's choosing the QB and the offense, that needs to be fixed.
What is working for the Steelers is Mike and the defense. Fix everything else.
Nope tomlin should be fired, he had a qb for 15 years and won squat once bill cowher’s players got old
@@MikeG82 Thanks for the ignorance.

Colin you can't compare the two look at the divisions McCarthy played in and Harbaugh plays in.
Good segment
I've never worked at a job longer than six years. I leave when Ive learned everything I can learn and the days become repetitive.
This same conversation came up at the end of last season about McCarthy. People really expect a HC to join a team and immediately win a SB??? It takes time to change the culture, build rapport and have continuity, We had Jason Garrett for 10 seasons plus, that was painful af.
This is why players in media is dangerous, they’re too close to be objective a lotta the time. Nobody’s saying Mike tomlin is trash. But they’ve clearly hit a ceiling with him. They used to be known for Super Bowl contending, now they hang their hats on just being above average.
Mike Tomlin is a hall of fame coach, but Andy Reid was more than likely a for sure shot at the hall of fame before the eagles decided to let him go. The Steelers have had trouble getting the offense right the coordinators have atrocious and it seems like Tomlin’s message isn’t getting to the team. It would be best for both parties to split. Tomlin would be praised if he brought a team like the bears or chargers to the playoffs.
As a Steelers fan Colin is right. Every year we lose 2-3 games against terrible teams that cost us the division or a playoff berth.
But you have drafted like trash on offense and Tomlin best skill is as a people manager. How bad would AB, Pickens, Roethlisberger, Bell situations be without him to put a lid on it. Draft better and not EVERY hire has to be internal
And every year he coaches this team above their talent.
@@singingchef23 you are definitely not a Steelers fan. We have a very talented team. We play down to our opponents. Look at Tomlins record when he’s the underdog vs when he’s a faveorite
The steelers haven't had good QB play since the 2018 season. Any other coach with qb play that bad would have already been fired already.
Bruh y’all haven’t had a good qb since Big Ben, ur not gonna win no matter who the coach
Colin basically just called McCarthy the Game Of Thrones of the NFL lmao.
Compare penalties between McCarthy's Dallas teams and Harbaugh's Ravens.
We're gonna find out the comparison with these refs this weekend betcha ravens rack up so many penalties cause of them that they lose this game
@@kennethpeller7411 I'm actually not referring to that. I'm referring to undisciplined stuff like the amount of times I see Micah Parsons lining up offsides (and even in that controversial situation with the Lions, him lining up offsides gave the Lions a reasonable chance at converting, but Goff missed the throw) and other consistent pre-snap penalties that make the Cowboys the MOST penalized team in the league and one of reasons why they're not going to the Super Bowl.
@@kennethpeller7411well considering that the ravens backups are playing
I mostly agree with Colin on his head coach takes but he assumes all offensive minded guys have a better chance of becoming good head coaches. If an offensive is bad shouldn’t the offensive coordinator be the one getting blame?
The case for Tomlin can likewise be expanded to encompass Pete Carroll. The team appears to have hit a plateau and is finding it challenging to regain a Super Bowl berth with its existing identity.
Wait til the wind changes direction, and Colin will change his view about McCarthy again.
One doesn't routinely mismanage the play calling and time management at the end of games. One does.

Scoring is continuously going down. The league wants to pivot to offense but offense these days is lackluster whereas defense has improved.
Mike Tomlin isn't going anywhere. That i can guarantee. Mike Tomlin will be in Pittsburgh as long as he wants to be. Simple as that.
There is nothing wrong with Colin saying that the Steelers could or should move on from Tomlin. There is nothing wrong with Travis Kelce as a current player saying that the Steelers should keep Tomlin and the media is wrong. It's all good!
Mike Tomlin never had a losing season but he is also 8-9 in the playoffs left a few potential Super Bowl appearances on the table with the killer B’s. Multiple wild card exits multiple divisional round exits and when they did make it to the championship game he let Chris Hogan go for 180 yards. I do not mind if the Steelers keep Tomlin and go for a big swing for QB in the draft but I think it be best if both parties split and the Steelers go into a bidding war for Ben Johnson or EB. Worse case scenario they have a bad record and finally draft a top prospect QB or player.
Maybe tomlin could say the same about you Colin?
Who you replace him with? Can’t say Harbaugh or Johnson.
Offense is fine. Did you watch the last 2 games?
Change is inevitable.
Colin putting the combo of Lamar and Flacco on the same level of the combo of Rodgers and Dak has to be the most insane thing I’ve heard in a long time.
I love Lamar, and he’s a fantastic QB, but are we letting the personality of Aaron Rodgers make us forget so soon that he is one of the best QB talents of all time?
Just crazy.
The ONLY consideration to moving Mike would be if a McVay or Shanahan or
Andy Reid are hitting the market. What's out there that you are replacing Mike Tomlin with?
If you can gauge Jim Harbaugh's interest, and he is interested, you can consider that.
I wish he'd stop saying ' 2 things can be true' when what her really means is ' 2 APPARENTLY CONTRADICTORY things can both be true
So you’re saying rather then just hiring a good OC that can run the offensive effectively, they should just fire Tomlin who’s carried bad rosters to not losing seasons, pretty much every year since 2019 except 2020
This Steelers team does not have a bad roster but think what you want
@@NedyahFox they have holes at every spot in the secondary other than Minkah and JPJ (and minkahs been hurt and JPJ only started playing like 2 months into the season). Colin bringing up the offensive/defensive coach argument again. Gee, what a surprise.
Having Dak and Rodgers is so much better than having Flacco and Jackson. Not even close.
This take aged like milk. Not even a Steelers fan but Mike Tomlin is easily top 10 greatest coaches of all time. They just made the playoffs AGAIN.
I’m not sure how you can compare prime Rodgers and prime Flacco
One had AA-Rod, with Rodgers can make any coach look good with his talent. The coach now in green bay was like coach of the year with Rodgers. Now we get to see his true ability at coaching with Love behind center. My point is having Aaron Rodgers as your qb is a cheat code. 🏁🏆🎯🏅
This guy is the main one. This is the Seinfeld of sports talk shows in the fact that he talks in an obtuse generalizations. Now that the Steelers are scoring 30 points a game what is going to be his story?? Maybe we just needed a QB that has more than remedial skills?? McCarthy vs Harbaugh - Really? McCarthy had Aaron Rodgers for over a decade in an easier division than the Ravens. Ravens had Joe Flacco and 1 miracle post season run when Flacco played out of his mind. McCarthy's play calls are questionable at best.
Right?

For a guy who makes a living out of evaluating people and their performance - dude sure has some thin skin. Toughen up Colin.
Colin wouldn't be able to handle his own criticism.
I know Collin doesn’t read these but the McCarthy harbaugh comparison might be the dumbest thing he’s ever said in his life. He uses Joe Flacco and Lamar Jackson as a knock on Harbaugh like “oh he’s had such great luck with QBs in his career.” Hmmm I wonder which ALL TIME GREAT, BEST PLAYER IN THE NFL FOR YEARS QB McCarthy had that put him on the map and is the reason he has a superbowl???? The hogwash and dribble that comes out of his mouth sometimes is absolutely brain dead.
Applauding him for righting the ship he put off course only for him to do the same again and again. End result is no net gain.
Mccarthy had rogers and Harbaugh had flacco.....
And he signed 3 years contract. Colin Colin hot take format is rotting

Colin no offense but youre wrong 90% of the time when you talk about Pittsburgh 😂
Well what would Pittsburg look like right now with a top 10 or even 15 qb? If joe burrow were there right now instead the scrubs they have, would this conversation even being had? He mentions they’ve had a bottom ten offense for five years but doesn’t mention one season Big Ben was injured, two season with scrub qbs and bens last year he obviously had lost it. Put a second tier qb on that team with that defense and they are contending for the division and the afc.
What if I told you we had a solid QB on the roster this an entire time but or incompetent head coach refused to start him because we drafted Kenny Pickett and signed Mitch Trubisky

This guys been on the Steelers for six seasons and his only major play time was not good. I have a tendency to think all the coaches and scouts with the team had some idea what they had before drafting Pickett and yet chose to draft him and start him for a season and a half. McCarthy won a single championship with the most talented athlete the sport has ever seen. That’s why he’s viewed as a bum.
Cultures and ownership matters. If Dallas fires McCarthy and Tomlin decides to leave Pittsburgh I’d bring him back home. McCarthy can coach offense and will be able to handle the QB decicision as long he lets someone else hire a DC

It’s hard to get a qb. To fire a coach that is struggling to replace a HoF Qb is going to be difficult. broncos had struggles, the patriots are struggling. He has a chance to lead the Steelers to a playoff berth without a good qb. Colts are going the same, the Texans have a defensive head coach. Should we fire him because they are barely 500 with a star QB and they won a game without him. There’s a reason the same teams are on top of the draft board picking a qb. It’s hard to land one.

Sure, you get one-offs like Dougy P’s Eagles but in today’s NFL, that’s overwhelmingly the rule. Andy Reid couldn’t win a Super Bowl until he got Mahomes. Belichick didn’t sniff a Super Bowl before Brady or since. Look at how other coaches have done after losing a HoF QB. Comparatively, Tomlin’s done phenomenally well since losing his future HoF QB.
Tomlin to the saints!!!!! Who dat ⚜️
Go get Russell Wilson Tomlin and create an offensive scheme machine salvaging your own career.
Let's be real lamar save coach hardbaugh job.
Right that’s exactly what I was thinking
ehhh, i think describing rodgers as "prickly" and saying flacco is "pro bowl level" is being a bit disingenuous. you could just as easily say rodgers was a 4x MVP future HOFer and flacco was average (literally never made a pro bowl even). to be clear im not saying thats what they are, but mccarthy has been given rodgers who is an all time legend, and dak who has actually made multiple pro bowls and will get MVP votes this year.
i think this is an instance where the eye test supercedes the numbers, just at the coaching level. watching the ravens over the last 15 years and watching mccarthy's teams, just at a game-by-game level you can tell harbaugh clears him as a coach. mccarthy is maybe overhated but when you coach arguably the best statistical QB ever + the biggest NFL franchise and you only get 1 SB win, i think it makes sense you get a little scrutiny. meanwhile harbaugh is a defensive coach who went from a stationary strong-arm passer to the most dynamic rushing QB possibly ever and did it seamlessly, while maintaining an elite defense throughout.
the tomlin analysis was A+ tho and lowkey if baltimore doesnt make the SB i think itd be valid to start questioning harbaugh's future value in baltimore since they havent won much in the lamar era.
harbaugh having a 61.9% winning chance playing the steelers bengals and recently cleveland two times a year while mccarthy has been playing against the lions bears and vikings twice and having a similar win percentage isnt something to brag about. now that harbaugh has a qb close to rodgers level we see what he can do. mccarthy is not harbaugh.
Lol lamar isnt close to rodgers at all
Poor JUSTIN if they hire him
